Nicholas Anthony Aroney Encouragement Awards A night of great kefi and immense pride was this year’s Nicholas Anthony Aroney Encouragement Awards held on Saturday 1st April at Venus Reception Lounge, Kogarah. Not only were we entertained by 17 of our senior Friday Night Greek Dancers but seven couples led by Emanuel Margelis, who also completed his HSC last year, were dressed in traditional Kytherian Spalletta and Vrakas and danced some authentic Kytherian dances. It was a very proud moment. e night was also special because it was the last time this current management of George and Dianna would provide such good food and service. ey are moving onto Jacks Restaurant at the Kyle Bay Bowling Club. We wish them well in their new venture. e families and friends of the ten Awardees were also very proud as these young Kytherians received their Certificates of Acknowledgement from e Kytherian Association of Australia as well as a cheque for the Prize-money and a copy of “Kythera from the Air” by James Prineas from the Trustees of the late Nicholas Anthony Aroney Estate. e Trustees give extra prize- money for the study of the Greek language. Congratulation to all the Awardees with the top scorer, Mark Henry ROTHERY with 99.95 who also received the Premiers Award for All-round Excellence and 1st in Classical Greek Extension. e others in alphabetical order are Georgina Maria ARONEY, Joshua BOWDEN, Aiva GEORGAS (Modern Greek Beginners), Angelique LALIOTIS, Andrea Georgia MASSELOS, Deanna MATIS, George PETROHILOS, Zac PRINEAS and Nicolette SEROUKAS. e Kytherian Association of Australia and its members are truly indebted to the Trustees of the N A Aroney Estate not only for their continuing sponsorship of the Friday Night Greek Dancing classes and for acknowledging the performances of Kytherian students in the Higher School Certificate but for many other worthy projects year aſter year. For example, they also contributed to the purchase of the traditional Kytherian spalletta and vrakas that were made in Kythera by Mrs Politimi Moulos in Greece. I would like to thank all those Committee members, especially Kathy Samios and those non-committee members for helping out on the night. And a special thank you to those who donated Raffle Prizes.
