On Saturday, August 18, 2018, the Berry Center hosted the annual CFISD Back-to-School Expo. The expo

began with the HVAC not functioning at the Berry Center. Behind the scenes, the NIC team was supporting an

upgrade of the Energy Management’s WebCTRL system. WebCTRL is used by the Energy Management to

automate the control of building operations, e.g. HVAC. The NIC team learned Saturday morning that the

upgrade was performed Friday evening and the upgrade was not functioning as designed. Greg Rhodes, Lance

Melancon, David Deitsch, Derly Buentello, and Paula Ross were called and were able to resolve the issues

    by midday Saturday.

    Standard Agenda Items:

    - Review goals

    - Review project schedules

    - Review key performance indicators and results

    - Review team capability and capacity

    - Review team cross training plans

    - Review current processes being developed and/or

    improved

On Wednesday, August 22, 2018, Frankie

Jackson met with David Deitsch and Paula

Ross for the monthly ECN T4 meeting. The

format was slightly different as Greg Rhodes,

from the NMO team, joined and we reviewed a

comprehensive NIC approach to our monthly

    meetings.

First, the team verified that each month, the

standard agenda items would be discussed: The team then shared with Frankie the plan for

tracking projects that are in progress or in the

    queue to be addressed.

A NIC master Excel spreadsheet has been

created listing all of the projects for both

the ECN and NMO teams. Within this

    spreadsheet are links to supplemental

    documentation.

This example lists the Firewall Project as

item #1 is the above spreadsheet. The

Firewall Project has a link that expands to a

    OneNote notebook. Within this OneNote

notebook is a log of activity that has

    transpired on the Firewall Project.

Also in the master list of projects is a link to another Excel spreadsheet. This spreadsheet tracks who the

project is assigned to, start and stop dates for project, progress of this particular project, etc. The goal

with this type of project organization is to be able to track the number of projects, prioritize workload, and

    assign staff resources accordingly.

On August 21, 2018, ISC experienced another power

issue due to the same CenterPoint fuse blowing out. Data

Center 3 did not experience any power issues because the

generator kicked in and all services remained online.

However, the north end of the building was without power

for almost two hours until CenterPoint was able to replace

    the blown fuse.

On August 23, 2018, Jennifer Miller, James Costello, David Deitsch, Greg Rhodes, and Paula

Ross joined Polly Gifford for a conference call with Content Keeper. Content Keeper claims to support

K-12 Education, manage SSL traffic, allow access to social media and embrace mobility in schools.

CFISD Technology provides CIPA compliant internet filtering today with our Fortinet solution.

However, Technology realizes that enhanced security measures will need to be addressed in the near

future. The team has begun to research and gather data for enhanced filtering.

Paula Ross, Director of Network Infrastructure and CommunicationsPosted by: August 24, 2018

On August 23, 2018, David Deitsch, Ray

Leung, and Paula Ross met with Jason Cortez

from MCA Communications to revisit the plastic

found in the cabling that was pulled for wireless

throughout the district. The CFISD team has

    noticed two specific issues:

    1. Wireless Access Points Offline Due to Cable

    Issues

    2. Wireless Access Points Degraded Due to

    Cable Issues

CFISD team members plan to meet MCA team

members at Birkes ES on Wednesday, August

    29, 2018 to devise a plan for re-terminating

cabling issues that have been discovered. Once

the correction process is determined, then MCA

will apply that correction process to the remaining

    campuses.

On the final Friday before the start of school, “Wireless Ninja Ray Leung” was ready to do whatever it takes to

get Langham Creek HS wireless network restored. Ray coordinated efforts between both Layer 3

Communications and MCA Communications to replace cut cables, install wireless access points, and

ultimately deliver wireless to the newly remodeled wing of the campus.
