Things I Must Experience
From our Area 35 chairperson
I want to share that our area treasurer, Garry, will
be stepping down at the end of 2018. Per our By-
Laws, I'm working on finding a replacement and
then we'll make it official with a vote at the March
Assembly. If anyone has experience as a DR and/or a
coordinator and would be interested in "trying on"
the position for a year, please let me know.
Garry will get paperwork done for 2018 and will
certainly be available to help make it a smooth
transition. Please pass along this information in our
groups. And Garry is available for a chat if you'd like
to talk to him about the time commitment the
position entails. I certainly thank Garry for his
commitment to our Area and the work he's done as
our Treasurer. It's been 5 years he's held this
position! It's a great opportunity for new folks to
step up and do the work of sustaining our Area.

The best way to keep what Al-Anon gives us is to share it
The WSO is already working on the 2020 issue of the Al-Anon Faces
Alcoholism magazine. A copy of the AFA Members Writer's Guide is
attached to this message with our request to include it in a future
issue of your Area Newsletter. The WSO accepts AFA
sharings from members throughout the year.
The AFA Writer's Guide explains what is needed for an AFA
sharing (50 to 300 worlds) to help inform families of alcoholics and
anyone unfamiliar with Al-Anon or Alateen about our program. It is
important to remember that AFA is intended to motivate families
of alcoholics to start attending Al-Anon. Stories can include:
o Why or how difficult it was to go to your first meeting-
what helped you take that first big step?
o What was your first meeting like and what did you hear
that helped you to decide to keep coming back?
o How is Al-Anon helping your and making a difference in
your life?
Stories can also be submitted online, www.al-anon.org/sharing.
I’ll Keep Coming Back
I have been in Al-Anon for a little over 20 years, and
I keep coming back because of the transparency and
honesty in these rooms. Nowhere else in my life do I
find people who are willing to share what is really
going on as I do in Al-Anon. This program helps me
cut through the walls that so easily build up when I
try to do it alone. The people in these rooms don’t
care where I live, where I walk or where I went to
school. They accept me for who I am and encourage
me on a path of recovery without forcing me to do
anything.
Even after all of these years, I still have so much to
learn. I do my best to practice these principles in all
my affairs. Al-Anon helps me with so much more than
just dealing with someone else’s drinking. Every
relationship I have benefits from this program, and I
hope to continue this rewarding way of life for as long
as I live. ~ Scott B., Georgia [Reprinted with

Our Newsletter, Your Voice
Alanews is the monthly newsletter of
New Hampshire Area 35. It is available
electronically for free by sending first
name, last initial and email address to
[email protected]. Groups often print copies for
sharing.
To assure that your announcement or report is included in the
next issue, please send it to [email protected] by the
15th
of the month. In 2019, sharings on the Step or Tradition
of the month as well as other topics are encouraged. They are
an example of how Step 12 works.
In accordance with our NH Area By-Laws, the NH
AWSC will be sending out packets of information
pertaining to the revision of our NH Area By-Laws.
The packets will include the proposed revised
documents and a detailed note from the Area
Chairperson. Every group will have a packet
mailed to their CMA (current mailing address) in
the month of January.
The first discussion with GRs (Group
Representatives) on the documents will be held at
the March 16th NH Area Assembly.
If you do not see the packet in your group, please
group please check with your GR
(group representative) or DR
(district representative).

Without member sharings, Al-Anon Faces Alcoholism, our most comprehensive annual public outreach magazine, wouldn’t be possible. Within the last year, Al-Anon members have distributed nearly 400,000 copies throughout the U.S., Canada, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico. Please help us continue to make this the most successful member participation outreach project in our history!

The goals of
Al-Anon Faces Alcoholism are:
• to help potential Al-Anon members
get past the obstacles we typically
face before we reach out for help,
i.e., denial; not wanting to rock the
boat; shame and embarrassment
to let people know there is a
drinking problem; the “myth” that
Al-Anon Family Groups is religious;
resentment that “they” have a
problem, not me, etc.
• to let potential members know
that we understand
• to give comfort and offer a possible
solution
• to give potential members basic
information about Al-Anon and
Alateen and let them know we’ll be
there if and when they want help
