June’s Keynote Speaker and Co-owner of the Saint Paul Saints, Mike Veeck, is the part owner of five baseball teams and a consultant for one other. He has served to put fun back into baseball while proving his ideas are not specific to sports. It is with this simple philosophy that his teams routinely set attendance records. An advertising professional, coveted public speaker, founder of the Veeck Promotional Seminar, and all around idea man, Mike recently released a corporate training video based on his “Fun is Good” philosophy. He also authored “Fun Is Good: How to Create Joy and Passion in Your Workplace” based on the same fundamental principle.

About the Membership Meeting: This event creates a venue for our members to meet, network and do business with other Chamber members. • Lurie Besik of Lapidus Private Investment Banking, Minneapolis,

• HealthEast, Saint Paul, received Level Three trauma designation at all of its full-service, acute care hospitals – Saint John’s Hospital in Maplewood, Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Saint Paul and Woodwinds Health Campus in Woodbury.

• Saint Paul-based Ecolab Inc.’s shareholders elected Arthur Higgins to the board of directors. Shareholders also reelected Joel Johnson and C. Scott O’Hara as directors.

• U.S. Bank will introduce a new overdraft policy that includes a reduced fee of $10 for transactions of $20 or less.

• Best Buy Co. Inc., Richfield, will open a Best Buy Mobile store at Maplewood Mall. The store will be Best Buy’s fifth stand-alone, mobile-phone store in the state. Best Buy Co. Inc.’s website scored highest among Minnesota retail websites in an annual study of online consumer satisfaction from ForeSee Results.

• 3M Co., a Maplewood-based diversified technology company, filed a lawsuit against Andover Healthcare Inc., an Andover-

based cohesive bandages manufacturer, seeking injunctive relief and damages regarding Andover’s CoFlex 2 Layer Compression System. 3M Co. has also expanded its overseas research-and-development work force to nearly equal its U.S.-based R&D staffing level. In addition, 3M Co. reported first-quarter net profits of $1.01 billion up from $563 million in the first quarter of 2009.

• General Mills Inc. declared a 2-for-1 stock split to take effect May 28. Shares of the Golden Valley food company have appreciated by more than 70 percent since it last paid 100 percent stock dividend in November 1999. Further, General Mills Inc. and Maplewood-based 3M Co. won gold medals at the 2010 Edison Best New Product Awards in New York City.

• The Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal published their “Top 100 Private Companies” in its May 14 issue.
