West Th/rd Grade winger, Tony Kelly is starting to show the Rugby League many critics expected from him. When he was produced at Maitland, in Reserve Grade last season, straight from the junior ranks. So go to it Tony.
West front row forward in Third Grade Tony Browne, doesn't know how to turn in a bad game. He · is indeed unlucky that West possesses such an all round forward strength throughout the Grade teams. Never mind Tony, your turn may come around before the season ends, so don't despair.
Lakes two Brians, Sullivan and Rohr, turned in magnificent displays against Kurri. They both gave a su·stained performance in running and tackling to show out in a great pack o.f forwards.
Once again Bob Terry turned in a good game when called up into the Lakes Reserve Grade side. Bob doesn't know how to stop trying.
Kurri Injured Players Lucky No. 6209 -won by Mr. Staffer, Pelaw Main.
One of Waratah's promising up andcoming players is Brian Judd. Up from the juniors this year he has played
. many fine games in both. third and reserve grades this season. We are tipping a big future for this player.
One of the keenest players at Waratah is 3rd Grade winger Don Oag. Never missing from any training session or game, he is a dedicated footballer with more than average -ability.
This could be the last year for Waratah stalwart Hilton O'Connor. Hilton has been one of the. finest clubmen ever to play with the 'Tahs and if he does hang his boots up all_ at Waratah· can say thank you for a job well done.
West Third Grade forward Jim Petersen, proved the old saying of, "Tutn up with your gear," ,and be willing to play in required. He did this last Saturday against Waratah, played and scored three good tries. Good on you Jim, it's players such as yourself t-hat makes clubs prosper.
Russell Cooper, after a short lay-off, has rapidly returned to the form thsit made h_im one of the top wingers last year. With Russell scoring 3 tries a game, · North certainly have a trump card in their quest for a final four position.
Cesshock · Third Grade player Greg Stokes earnt promotion to the Reserve Gracie with a good game against South .. This lad is showing good promise and big things are expected from him next :,eason.
Good to see Tom Thurtell back on the field for Macquarie. Tom showed up well in the pre-season competition but injury has kept him out for some time.
CLOSE IN SYDNEY Six teams are vying for semi:final
honours in the Newcastle Competition, . but the Sydney competition is equally as close.
Eastern Suburbs has a precarious . lead of one point to head the competition with Manly one point behind.
South Sydney and St. George are both on 24 points followed closely by Balmain with 22 points.
Parramatta is next with 19 points and then comes Western Suburbs, Canterbury and Penrith all on 18 points.
The Sydney competition has four more series to be played prior to the semi-finals and a few changes can be expected before these series terminate.
