Prayer of St. Louis de Montfort

O Jesus living in Mary, come and live in Your servants, in the spirit of Your holiness, in the fullness of Your might, in the perfection of Your ways, in the truth of Your virtues, in the communion of Your mysteries. Subdue every hostile power, the devil, the world and the flesh, in the strength of Your Spirit, for the glory of Your Father, Amen.

ACTS 29 Youth Group presents the Holy Family and Saint Joseph

2019 Christmas Project “CHRISTMAS AT SEA:

GIFTS FOR OUR VISITING SEAFARERS”

There is an active seaport in the DIOCESE OF VICTORIA at Point Comfort and two large fishing communities in Palacios and Port Lavaca/Seadrift. “For seafarers working this Christmas it can be a lonely time, as they are hundreds of miles from home. For many of them the bag they receive while in Point Comfort will be their only gift during the holidays. More important than the contents of this gift is the welcome gesture of caring from people they have never met. During December, our Chaplains and ship visitors will take 20-25 gifts (depending on the size of the crew) to every vessel that enters the Port in Point Comfort. Some ship Captains distribute the gifts to their crews right away. Some put them under the ship’s Christmas Tree, if there is one. Some hold them and place one outside each seafarer’s cabin door on Christmas morning.” (Our Lady of the Gulf, Port Lavaca TX)

The ACTS 29 Youth Group of Holy Family and Saint Joseph Mission will be collecting donated items for bags that will be prepared for the seafarers. Parishioners may help in two ways:

1. Purchase and drop off items in the Alpha Room (HF) or Parish Hall (STJ) OR drop off items at the Parish Office during business hours. 2. If preferred, a monetary donation may be made by placing in a marked envelope

“Christmas at Sea” (checks payable to Holy Family) for the collection basket, the Parish Office drop box, or at the Parish Office during business hours. The ACTS 29 Youth Group will use monetary donations to shop for needed items and purchase string backpacks.

The deadline to submit donated items or monetary donations to Holy Family and Saint Joseph Mission is Sunday, November 15.

Want to help? Start collecting toiletries, playing cards, hotel soaps, postcards, new socks, pens and pencils, small games, hard candies, and other items that you might appreciate on a long trip at sea. A card with a personal note, although optional, is always most appreciated by the seafarers. Please avoid including items that will melt or break, and pack any batteries separately from the items they will power. As there are very few women onboard the ships, we would request that the gifts be packed for male seafarers. Suggestions of what to donate/include in Seafarer gifts:

Small size shampoo Dental floss Note pads Disposable razors

Small soap Nail clippers Envelopes Toothbrush

Shower gel Fingernail file Pencil or pen Toothpaste

Deodorant Small Texas souvenir Pencil sharpener Gloves

Kleenex Hand towel Playing cards Picture postcards

Q-tips Wash cloth Small games Small sewing kit

Lip Balm Pair of white athletic socks Small package of nuts Microwave popcorn

Lotion T-Shirt (M or L) Small trail mix Hot chocolate

Powder Knit cap Chewing gum Sport bottle

Small Shaving Cream Scarf Hard candy Brush/Comb

Seafarer bags will be assembled and

delivered to Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic

Church in Port Lavaca on November 30 by the ACTS 29 Youth Group!

SENIOR AND HOMEBOUND OUTREACH QUESTIONNAIRE

As we continually evaluate what ministries are important for our parish and

community, we are trying to learn more about how to support the needs of

senior citizens and the homebound. Wharton County does have a very active

senior citizen program at WCJC, but there still may be ways our parishioners

can help, too.

The purpose of this short questionnaire is to gather information about the

needs of seniors and the homebound to use in evaluating ways Holy Family

Church can help. We would truly appreciate it if you could take a few minutes

to complete the questionnaire and then return it to the collection basket or

Parish Office by October 21, 2019.

1. Could you or another senior or homebound person you know benefit

from a weekly phone call, just to check in and say hello?

Yes ___ No ___

2. Do you need information about community resources available in

Wharton County for senior citizens (e.g., Senior Citizens Program at

WCJC, Meals on Wheels, disaster recovery information)?

Yes ___ No ___

3. If there were an event for senior citizens at the parish Life Center from

time to time that involved a light meal and games such as

dominoes/bingo, is that something that would appeal to you or a senior

citizen that you know?

Yes ___ No ___

Thank you for your time!
