YEAR 11 NOTICE - ATTENDANCE DURING GCSE EXAMS No students will be allowed to leave school following exams unless medical evidence
is provided a minimum of a day before the appointment. Emergency appointments
will require medical evidence the day after.
Failure to follow the above procedure will result in the absence being unauthorised which will lead to 50 Prom points per period being deducted.
It is vital that students remain in school to take advantage of revision sessions that have been planned and to access staff with any queries regarding their exams.
Please contact Mrs Martin with any attendance issues during the exam period.
Thank you for your support.
Miss Fryer, Year 11 Progress Leader and Mrs Martin, Year 11 Student Manager.
YEAR 11 - LAST WEEK ARRANGEMENTS Please see below the arrangements for the last week of Year 11.
Monday 11th-Wednesday 13th June
Normal lessons/revision classes/exams.
Thursday 14th June – Shirt Signing
Students may bring a shirt into school to be signed. They may not wear it during lessons
however. Any student who goes beyond these instructions or behaves inappropriately
during the day will result in them being sent home and not attending the Leavers
Assembly and Prom. All students must attend normal lessons/revision classes on this
day.
Friday 15th June – Leavers Assembly
The Year 11 Leavers Assembly will take place at 11:45. Students may come into school
in their own clothes, but they must be “smart, casual”. This is always an excellent, and
at times quite emotional occasion celebrating the students’ life at Rainhill from Years 7-
11. Please see below the timetable for the day, beginning with the following exams in
the morning:
All students to return to normal period 2 at the end of their exams.
The Assembly

FEEDBACK OF EVENTS FOR PARENTS Before half term, the school held an Open Morning for parents and an Evening Surgery
for parents. Five parents came in for the Open Morning, one of whom had a tour
around the school. Two parents came in for the Evening Surgery.
We hope these parents found the opportunity useful, the Senior Leaders who met with
them certainly did.
These events will continue, one of each per term. The next Open Morning will be on
Thursday 4th July, 9am-12:20pm.
Future Evening Surgeries and Open Mornings will be published on the colour calendar
for the next school year.
RADA SHAKESPEARE AWARDS On the 23rd of May, some of our fantastic year 8 and 9 pupils were given the very
exciting opportunity of taking part in the prestigious RADA Shakespeare bronze award
alongside Warwick University.
RADA, The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, is a world-renowned and world-leader in
training for the arts so to have two of their staff travel up from London to assess our
pupils was a great honour and one which the pupils very much relished.
All the pupils were an absolute credit to both themselves and the school and the
assessors have emailed me to say what a ’fantastic school and students we have here
at Rainhill’ and that they would love to come back again. Myself and Mrs Renison
could not have been prouder of the pupils who took part and here is to many more
pupils taking part in the Shakespeare awards in years to come.
Mrs Speers, Drama Teacher.
END OF YEAR REWARDS TRIP Dear Parent/Carer
The end of year rewards trip is on Wednesday 18th July at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
You were written to earlier in the year with the criteria that your child must achieve if
they are able to attend. The final decision, based on the criteria below, will be taken
on Friday 15th June.
95% Attendance and Punctuality
Attitude To Learning 1-3 in 11 out of 13 subjects in all Learning Programmes
(Years 7 and 8)
Attitude To Learning 1-3 in 7 out of 8 subjects in all Learning Programmes
(Years 9 and 10)
If your child did not start the year well, but has shown considerable improvement over
a significant period of time, then their Year Progress Leader will present their case to
Mrs Munro and Mr Lamb who will have the final decision on whether they will be
invited to attend. If they to do not achieve the criteria and have not made sufficient
improvement either, then an alternative day will be organised for them in school. For
those that have achieved the criteria, a letter will be posted out to you week
beginning Monday 18th June with details of the trip and when payment for it is due.

YEAR 7 LEARNING PROGRAMME - ASSESSMENT WEEK 3 From Monday 11th June to Thursday 21st June 2018 (inclusive), all students in Year 7 will
be undertaking assessments in the subjects they are currently studying. It should be
noted that all assessments are cumulative and therefore based potentially on
anything that your son/daughter has studied during this academic year.
The Year 7 assessment will be based on a cumulative exam paper in their subject
from which a teacher is able to give a fine GCSE grade (1 to 9). Year 7 students will
complete their examinations in their classrooms under exam conditions. For
performance and practical subjects (Drama, Music, Art and Technology) the Year 7
assessment will be based on a current substantive piece of work in their subject from
which a teacher is able to give a fine GCSE grade (1 to 9).
Please see the exam timetable so your son/daughter is aware of when their
examinations take place. Please could you encourage and support your son/
daughter to prepare thoroughly for these exams as they will give them a good
indication of the progress they have made to date.
I have included some guidance around revision and preparing effectively for exams.
For example, in the lead up to the examinations your son/daughter should be
completing approximately 2 hours of independent revision per day. Your son/
daughter should be very clear about what is being examined from their class teacher.
I have asked all teaching staff to set revision homework via Show My Homework for
the next few weeks until the examinations have been sat which your son/daughter
should record in their planner.
I trust that you find this information useful and that we are able to best work together
to ensure that your son/daughter continues to make progress in all the subjects they
are studying.
Mr Cunningham, Deputy Head Teacher - Director of Studies.

YEAR 9 LEARNING PROGRAMME - ASSESSMENT WEEK 3 From Monday 11th June to Friday 15th June 2018 (inclusive), all students in Year 9 will be
undertaking assessments in the subjects they are currently studying. For GCSE subjects
these assessments will be based on past paper questions and will be taken under
exam conditions to best prepare your son/daughter for final examinations in May/June
2020.
In the case of English Literature, we have made the decision that this year group will
be sitting their actual GCSE at the end of year 10 in order to manage their Year 11
exam load. With this in mind, all English Literature exams from this point in time will be
sat in the sports hall and replicate real GCSE exams. Experience tells us that this helps
alleviate some of the nerves over time. Information will be given to students via an
assembly.
Please see the exam timetable so your son/daughter is aware of when their
examinations take place. All examinations will take place in the classroom under
exam conditions except the English Literature paper which has been scheduled for
the whole year group in the Sport Hall.
Please could you encourage and support your son/daughter to prepare thoroughly
for these exams as they will give them a good indication of the progress they have
made to date and what they need to do to improve in order that they can secure
fantastic exam results in the summer of 2020.
I have included some guidance around revision and preparing effectively for exams.
For example, in the lead up to the examinations your son/daughter should be
completing approximately 2 – 3 hours of independent revision per day. Your
son/daughter should be very clear about what is being examined from their class

For example, in the lead up to the examinations your son/daughter should be
completing approximately 2 hours of independent revision per day. Your son/daughter
should be very clear about what is being examined from their class teacher.
I have asked all teaching staff to set revision homework via Show My Homework for the
next few weeks until the examinations have been sat which your son/daughter should
record in their planner.
I trust that you find this information useful and that we are able to best work together
to ensure that your son/daughter continues to make progress in all the subjects they
are studying.
