******** ******** App of the Month

On hiatus.

* * * * * * * * *

******** ******** PonyUp

This month we hear from John (your Newsletter Editor) and Judy Reisz, GPMC members since April, 2005. Editor – What’s in your stable? Tell us a little about each. John/Judy - 2000 Mustang GT with Cobra R front bumper cover, hood and wing Electric Green, gray/black interior, Corbeau seats 4.6L, Kenne Bell supercharged, air to water intercooled, 5 speed, 3.73 rear, performance suspension mods including shocks, springs, sway bars, upper and lower Steeda control arms, polyurethane bushings, subframe connectors and caster/camber plates, Flowmaster s/s exhaust system, B&M shifter, KB Boost-A-Pump, Autometer fuel pressure and boost gauges, Raptor shift light 2006 Mustang GT Roush Stage1 Torch Red w/white stripes, red/black Roush custom leather interior 4.6L 3V, 5 speed, Roush exhaust system Ed. – Is there a story behind your Ponies you’d like to share with the members? John – 2000 GT - Our neighbor at the time was former member Chris Levy, and he had recently purchased a 1969 Mustang Sport Roof with a 428 Cobra Jet engine. After seeing and hearing it around for a while I got the bug and started looking for a Mustang for myself; something pretty much stock, a few years old and low mileage. I came across this one in a newspaper ad and went out to see it. Although a bright green car was not on my radar I liked the fact that it was “different”, a fairly rare color, so I took it for a ride and made the deal with the owner in mid-December 2004. I was able to drive it a few days that month then put it away for winter, anxiously waiting for spring to arrive. Well, as luck would have it I broke my left leg in February, and was not able to drive it until May (left leg needed for clutch pedal). 2006 Roush – Judy and I were on a leisurely Sunday ride in December 2015, when I spotted in a car lot this red car from several hundred feet away. I passed it up, turned around and went back to check it out. I should say at this point that Judy always had a yearning for a red Mustang, always wishing our green car was red. There was another guy standing next to it and I was not sure if he was checking out the Roush or the Challengers on either side of it. As I approached I said out loud “nice Challengers huh? too bad this Mustang is between them”. The he started to talk about looking for a Challenger and did not even pay attention to the Mustang. Huh, I thought all mine! When I got back into our car and chatted about it with Judy she said what do you need another car for? (the nerve of her!). I said “but it’s red and you’ve always wanted a red Mustang”. Now we jump to the next day, I called the dealer and made arrangements for that evening after I got home from work to check it out in detail and drive it. We talked price, I thought about it for a day or two then bought it on December 31, the very last day of 2015. Ed. – Do you enter your car in shows, which? In races, which? In other events, which? John – I have entered the cars in a limited number of shows over the years, besides our Club shows I’ve done a couple MCA shows and a few times a while back entered in the show field at Carlisle Ford Nationals. I actually prefer the relaxed atmosphere of local car cruises. As for racing, I have taken the 2000 GT to the drags at Keystone Raceway Park, and Pitt Race Complex (previously named BeaveRun) road course for Track Day. I have also made several laps at Motordrome and Jennerstown Speedways after their regular nightly events had ended. Check out this video at Motordrome: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPXA9e8V_lE

Ed. – What gives you the most satisfaction in owning/driving your car? John – In a way it makes me feel like I was in my teens again, having cars that you want to keep exceptionally clean for all to see, the noise from the exhaust, the manual shifting of gears, but with a whole lot more horsepower. Judy had never learned to drive a stick so she is relegated to the passenger seat, but I know she enjoys the ride. Ed. – What is the farthest distance you have ever taken your cars and where? John/Judy –In June 2015, we took the 2000 GT over 250 miles into Canada to the Niagara Falls area for the CanAm. Ed. – Where have you taken it that was most enjoyable and that you would recommend to other members? John/Judy - We enjoy the Club cruises planned by the activities coordinator, especially the fall foliage cruise when the color change cooperates and an occasional visit to a winery. Ed. – They say no matter how many cars you own you’re still one away from enough. If you were looking for another, what would it be and why? John/Judy – A mid-70s full size wagon, the bigger the better. We’d want it slammed, big chrome wheels, an awesome paint job, dark tinted windows, modern drive train and suspension, an outrageous sound system, and A/C of course. We’d keep it at our future beach house in Myrtle, and use it to cruise around town and to ferry our guests. Or maybe a new Shelby GT350 instead. Ed. – Not specifically car related but what would members be surprised to know about you? John/Judy – We met at a disco through mutual friends in late 1975. She wanted to go out with me because I had a nice car, a brand new 1976 Pontiac Grand Prix LJ with a hatch roof…(my hot rodding days were over at the time). I wanted to go out with her because I thought she had money, she was driving her parent’s Cadillac Coupe Deville. Oh well, in spite of this things ended up working out quite well! We’ve been happily married 38 years. Ed. – Any final comments? John/Judy – We enjoy the social aspect of interacting with Club members from all walks of life, and various interests, all brought together due to a common theme…Mustang people!
