Kia Manawanui

Pānui #08 / 31st May 2018

Ka puta a Matariki, ka rere a Whānui. Ko te tohu tēnā o te tau e!

Matariki appears, Whānui starts its flight. This is the sign of the New Year.

Kia ora whanau, This year our Matariki Festival will be held on Sunday 17th June at

6am. We will start the morning in the hall where we will have an

opportunity to reflect upon and share memories and stories about

those that have passed before us. Following our time in the hall we

will move toward a bonfire where we can keep warm and, if the spirit

moves us, sing some waiata. We will finish the

morning with a shared breakfast and some fire

baked potatoes.

Everyone is welcome. Please bring a plate.

Ka kite i a koutou a tērā marama.

From the Finance Team

Special character contribution statements detailing payments made this year have recently been sent out via email. Thank you very much for your ongoing support. Disbursement donation and sports/trip fee statements will be sent out shortly.

Missing Roller Skates At the end of last term Lucy's roller skates she kept in her classroom foyer under her bag vanished. They were is a bag which also had black knee, elbow and wrist guards. The skates were black and pink, size 5 and only worn twice so looked brand new. I was wondering if they were moved or put somewhere else for the fair set up or when class 5 did the end of term clean? They were her Christmas present and she would very much like them back. If you know where they are please let me know or leave them in the office. Thanks, Josie 0276177906

Near Misses with School Children on Train Tracks

There have been some near misses recently involving children crossing train tracks before and after school in the Wellington Region. They all have one thing in common: children aren’t expecting a “second train”. In all of these recent near misses, bells and lights have still been operating, but because the first train has passed, students make the mistake of thinking it’s safe to cross. This

can be extremely dangerous as the track crossings in areas with double tracks always have the potential for a second train to pass. As well as looking and listening before crossing, please make it clear to children that if bells and lights are going, it’s because a second train could be coming and it’s not safe to cross. Thank you for your support in getting this safety message out to children. For more information about safe behaviour around tracks and trains, see Tracksafe.co.nz.
