Summer Student Labourer I Deer Park Municipal Golf Course Competition Number 2016-28 The City of Yorkton is a great place to work and if you enjoy a busy and challenging work environment, if you are a student we encourage you to apply for the Summer Student position at the Deer Park Golf Course. This position reports to the Golf Course Superintendent, and performs a wide variety of operational and maintenance tasks related to the execution of golf course maintenance. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Operation of string trimmer and other related equipment. • Operate turf equipment. • This involves assisting with minor repairs to course and buildings, laying sod, repairing and leveling drainage areas, maintaining cart paths, water flowers and trees, edge sand traps, remove deadfall and raking. • General clean-up around Deer Park ABILITIES: • Perform manual labour duties and under varied weather conditions • Follows all O.H.S. Regulations, Company Safety Policies and S.O.P.’s • Ability to work courteously and cooperatively with the general public and other City staff. • Self-starter and demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision QUALIFICATIONS: • Grade 10 education • Good Public relations skills • Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 driver’s license. • Must possess and maintain RCMP security clearance. Mulch It - coMpost It contestWant a Better Lawn?Want to Save Money (in yard maintenance and fertilizer)?Want to Reduce Waste in the Landfill? How about a chance to Win a new Mulching Mower or Composter?

If you answered yes to any of those then you should sign up for the 3rd annual Mulch it Compost It program, sponsored by Canadian Tire, Logan Stevens, Recyclability Enterprises and the City of Yorkton Environmental Committee.

Interested residents need to sign up before Friday, June 10, 2016, and there is no charge to participate. For details contact the Environmental Services Department at 306-828-2470 or visit yorkton.ca and click on the Mulch It – Compost It Hot Topic on the home page.

Participants must document their lawn practices over the growing season, including watering fertilizing, aeration, etc. and must either mulch or compost their lawn clippings. Their lawns and lawn practices will be evaluated at the end of summer and winners announced. Participants need to agree to have a sign in their yard to promote the program.

Dracup Avenue North Reconstruction - Traffic Detour

2016 Construction Dracup Avenue North Starting May 2, 2016 the Roadways Reconstruction will begin on Dracup North from Darlington to York Road. Please follow all road closures and detours. Dracup Avenue North Completion Project (York Road to Darlington Street) Most underground infrastructure improvements and construction of the new roadbed were completed in 2015.

• Roadway preparation work began in mid April, including replacement of the short section of water main at the north end of the street and construction of some additional of new catch basins.

• Grading and roadway preparation is slated to begin May 1 and is expected to take approximately two weeks.

• Concrete paving of the roadway will then get underway around May 24 and is expected to be completed by July 1, weather permitting.

Dracup Avenue North Construction (York Road to Darlington Street)

• Roadways preparation began in mid-April with replacement of a section of water main at the north end of the street and construction of additional catch basins.

• Grading and final roadway preparation got underway May 1 and will continue as sections are readied for concrete surfacing.

• Concrete paving of the roadway began May 19th and is expected to be completed in sections by July 1, weather permitting.

Dracup Avenue South Construction (Darlington Street to Smith Street)

Work on Dracup South from Darlington Street to Smith Street began May 9th. All underground infrastructure, utility and service connections to businesses on Dracup South will be replaced, and a new concrete roadway will be installed.

This project will be completed by September 15, weather permitting.

Mayhew Avenue Reconstruction - Phase I Traffic Detour

Mayhew Avenue - Broadway Street to Morrison Drive

Mayhew Avenue Phase 1 (Broadway Street to Morrison Drive) - removal of old asphalt, underground infrastructure renewal and concrete resurfacing. This Phase will be completed by July 1, weather permitting. The area adjacent to Linden Square Mall is currently under construction and is a priority due to adjacent businesses. Phase 2, Morrison Drive to Darlington Street, will follow completion of Phase 1.
