Mr. Amjad A. Khan, Managing Director,

NESPAK visited The Liquid Natural Gas

(LNG) Power Plant Project site at Balloki,

Nankana on February 28, 2015 to examine

the alternative proposed site for the 1200

MW LNG-based Thermal Power Plant. He

was accompanied by Mr. Nadeem Ashraf,

General Manager, Power & Mechanical

Division, Mr. Mansoor Ali, Project Manager

LBDC project and Mr. Imran Zafar, Head

Survey Section Water Resources Division.

The proposed power plants will generate

more than 1200 MW electricity that will help

in reducing energy crises in the country.

Pakistan Project chaired by Chief Minister

Punjab, Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif.

Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister

said that Bab-e-Pakistan Project is of vital

importance and is being executed in the

memory of the founding fathers of the

country who rendered great sacrifices

during the Pakistan Movement.

Mr.Shahbaz Sharif said that Bab-e-

Pakistan Foundation has been set up and

the members of the boards had been

The position of

receivables for the

period ending

June 30,

2014 was

discussed in

great detail

at the

meeting. Mr.

NESPAK, briefed the

Board that strenuous

efforts at all levels are

underway for the

recovery of

receivables.

The Board instructed that a recovery

cell headed by a vice president should be

formed, which should undertake the task

of recovery of receivables. The Board also

offered its full support and assistance to

the MD NESPAK in efforts to recover the

receivables. Various financial and

administrative matters were also

discussed during the meeting of the

Board.

The MD NESPAK has already

met with various heads of

federal and provincial

completion of this project. The

Chief Minister added that

construction of grounds and

provision of sports facilities should

be considered under this project.

development of master plan for King

Edward Medical University (KEMU) and

Mayo Hospital, Lahore and architectural

and engineering design of Dr. Maqbool

Ahmad Basic Sciences Block at KEMU.

Dr. Maqbool Ahmad Basic Sciences Block

is planned to be built on a site area of 7.4

basic sciences block of

international standards

equipped with lecture

theatres, laboratories,

The scope of services includes master

planning, architectural & engineering

design, tender documentation and

construction supervision. Ms. Mobina

Badruddin, Chief Architect, Architecture &

Planning Division, is the Project Manager

for this Rs.400 million project.

NESPAK Services for Civil Works of Sindh Forest Department

NESPAK and the Forest Department

signed an agreement for master planning,

detailed architectural, engineering design

and construction supervision of

miscellaneous civil works of Sindh Forest

Department. This Rs. 425 million project

comprises construction of officers'

bungalows, office-cum-residences, staff

quarters, forest houses, staff huts, office

blocks, model nurseries, fun areas for

children, boundary walls and watch towers

etc.

NESPAK wins Gwadar Port Structures Project

NESPAK has won master planning,

design, supervision of development and

construction of Port Allied Structures in

Mullah Band Area, Gwadar. Mr. M Arif

Changezi, GM/Head Architecture &

Planning Division has signed the

agreement on behalf of NESPAK. The

project involves design of bank branches,

stevedores offices, agency offices, custom

clearing agents, containers freight stations,

container repair/testing yard, cold storage,

cargo storage sheds, marine repair

workshop, seamen center, rest house,

canteen & utility stores. The estimated

construction cost is Rs. 800 million. Ms.

Samina Butt, Chief Architect, Architecture

& Planning Division, Karachi has been

designated as the Project Manager.

NESPAK to provide Services for Zhob Projects

The Communication & Works Department,

Government of Balochistan has awarded

NESPAK planning, design and construction

supervision of new bus/truck adda,

vegetable/fruit market square and police

station at Zhob. The detailed services

comprise the master plan, preparation of

PC-I, architectural/ engineering design and

tender documents/drawings. Mr. M. Arif

Changezi, G.M./Head Architecture and

Planning Division has signed the

agreement on behalf of NESPAK. The

estimated cost of construction is Rs. 500

million.

The master plan shall have provision for

mosque, fire brigade station, petrol pump,

service station, hotels, cold storage, taxi

stand etc. NESPAK services shall also

include roads, water supply, sewerage

and electrification. Mr. Hatim Ismail Nek

has been nominated as the Project

Manager.

NESPAK completes Work for Ravi Riverfront Study

NESPAK has successfully completed all

the surveys and investigations for the

feasibility study of the Ravi Riverfront

Urban Development Project. Requisite

reports have been submitted to the Client,

Lahore Development Authority (LDA), by

the Environmental & Public Health

Engineering (E&PHE) Division.

The investigations included river

cross-sectional survey in the reach of

about 40km & land use mapping,

geotechnical investigation and socio-

economic survey of the project area

measuring 110,000 acres.

In appreciation of quality services for the master

planning of Defense Housing Authority (DHA),

Phase-VIII, DHA has awarded the master planning

of its mega housing scheme Phase-IX to NESPAK.

The housing scheme is spread over an area of

40,000 kanals located in the south eastern outskirts

of Lahore.

This new phase shall be a modern residential

development comprising international level

commercial, educational, health and recreation

facilities to serve a population of around 175,000.

NESPAK scope of services includes developing,

planning and design standards, zoning and land

use planning as well as preparing preliminary and

detailed master plan. Ms. Nabila Rashid, General

Manager, Architecture & Planning Division is the

Project Manager while Ahmad Masood, Senior

Town Planner, is the Project Town Planner.

NESPAK awarded DHA Mega Housing Scheme Master Plan

NESPAK to supervise BridgeConstruction on River Jhelum

Highways & Transportation Engineering Division,

NESPAK has been awarded construction supervision

of a large bridge over River Jhelum at Langarwala

Pattan including connecting roads of 10 km. The

bridge will connect the Jhelum district with Sargodha

District and its construction

will reduce the distance

between these two districts

by 35km. This bridge will

also create short cuts for

Jhang, Mianwali and Bhakkar

districts.

The length of bridge is 2100ft

and it consists of pile

foundation. This project

costing Rs. 2 billion is likely

to be completed in two years.

The Heavy Mechanical Complex (HMC)

Taxila has engaged NESPAK to provide

consultancy services for the 16 MW

Naltar-III Hydropower Power Project in

Gilgit-Baltistan Province. NESPAK scope

of services includes review of feasibility

study, detailed engineering design and

construction supervision for quality

control. The project costing Rs.184

million will be carried out on turnkey

basis in three and a half years. Mr.

NESPAK hired for Naltar-IIIHydropower Project

The Geotechnical & Geoenvironmental

Engineering Division (GT&GE), NESPAK has

been assigned the task to develop long-term

remedial measures for the safety of various

earthen bunds in Punjab, which are subjected

to severe damages during the floods every

year and to prepare tender level drawings and

construction methodology for implementation.

This work is being undertaken through

Addendum-2 of Consultancy Contract

“Monitoring of Projects under Provincial Annual

Development Program, Punjab Irrigation

Department”. Mr. Sabir Hussain, Chief

Engineer, GT&GE Division is the team leader.

Remedial Measures for Bunds in Punjab

Mr. Rana Tanveer Hussain, Federal Minister for Science and

Technology(MoST), visited the under-construction Ministry of

Science and Technology Office building at Constitution

Avenue, Islamabad on January 20, 2015 along with Mr.

Kamran Ali Qureshi, Secretary MoST, Mr. Muhammad Ijaz

Mian, Project Director MoST and other dignitaries. The

delegates were briefed by Mr. Pervez Akhtar, Engineer's

Representative and Mr. Rashid Ullah, Resident Engineer

NESPAK, about the

progress of ongoing

works. The MoST

officials appreciated

the quality of works

and NESPAK efforts for

completion of the

project.

Minister visits MoSTOffice Building

NESPAK in a joint venture with HALCROW Pakistan and ICS (Pvt.) Limited has

been providing consultancy services for Punjab Irrigation System Improvement

Project funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency, costing Rs.11.53

billion for Punjab Irrigation Department since September 11, 2009. The

Consultants scope of work consists of designing for lining/ rehabilitation and

upgradation of distributaries and minors including all type of structures and

construction of new

buildings. The project has been

divided into 23

contract packages

located in three

Irrigation Zones, viz.

a. viz.: Bahawalpur

Irrigation Zone, DG

Khan Irrigation Zone

and Faisalabad

Zone. These contract

packages were

awarded from

September 2010 to

September 2011.

The construction activities for all these packages completed in October 2014.

In addition to the above, 5 additional packages for rehabilitation and up-

gradation of Jhang Branch Canal Upper and lower were also included in the

scope of services on June 28, 2012. These additional packages were awarded

in September 2013.The construction activities are in progress at a fast pace.

NESPAK to review Master Plan of DHA Bahawalpur

Defense Housing Authority (DHA)

Bahawalpur has hired NESPAK for the

review of its master plan prepared by E-in-

C branch of the General Headquarters.

The project will be handled by

Architecture & Planning Division, Lahore

and the project site is located south of

Bahawalpur spreading over an area of

around 13,500 kanals. This would be the

first mega housing project of Bahawalpur

being launched by DHA.

Design Vetting of KARCPP Projects

King Abdullah's Relief Campaign for

Pakistani People (KARCPP) engaged

NESPAK for design vetting of

reconstruction projects in the flood and

earthquake-affected areas of Pakistan.

NESPAK will carry out design vetting of 10

projects in first phase. The projects

include construction of Basic Health Units

(BHUs), government schools of different

categories and Mosques in all the

provinces including Azad Jammu and

Kashmir.

The duty of NESPAK is to ensure that the

design complies with the standard

specifications approved by the

government agencies for the affected

areas with regard to weather conditions,

flood intensity and earthquake hazards.

Mr. Aamir Rasheed, Principal Engineer, is

the Project Manager.

NESPAK wins University of Swabi Project

NESPAK has won the design services for

University of Swabi project through

technical and financial proposals

evaluated on quality-cum-cost basis. The

scope of services includes planning,

design and preparation of engineers

estimate & bid documents. The University

of Swabi will construct its permanent

campus in Tehsil Lahore, District Swabi on

a land measuring over 1,400 kanals. The

site is located along the Motorway (M-1) at

about 2km on north western side of Swabi

Interchange.

This Rs.358 million project comprises

academic block, examination block,

auditorium/multipurpose hall and guest

house. Total covered area of four buildings

is approximately 128,000 sq.ft. Mr. Aamir

Rasheed, Principal Engineer, is the Project

Manager.

Construction in Full Swing for Khulais and Rabigh Water Projects, KSA

Under a new consultancy contract, NESPAK continued to provide services for construction

supervision of the project “Water Transmission from Khulais & Rabigh Dams to Jeddah

(Completion Phase-I & Phase-II).” The project was awarded by the Ministry of Water &

Electricity, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at a cumulative cost of US$ 131 million. Under Phase-I,

Khulais Water Treatment Plant (WTP) had already been completed and is under operation.

Enhanced work for completion Phase-I comprises construction of 50,000 cu.m ground

water reservoir at Rehaily on Jeddah-Rabigh Road. Construction of Rehaily Ground Water

Reservoir at Jeddah is continuing whereas construction of Kamal ground water tank has

also begun . On January 6, 2015, The Ministry's engineers visited the under construction

Rehaily Tank and reviewed the work progress. They appreciated the quality of work

maintained at site. Construction work for Phase-II of the project is also showing speedy 3progress. The Phase-II project comprises construction of a 100,000 m /day WTP.

Construction activities for WTP and pipeline are in full swing and about 30% of the project

has been completed.

Water Transmission Project in KSA nears Completion

M.H.Aitah-NESPAK Engineering Consultant Company has substantially completed

construction supervision for five phases of the project “Water Transmission from Hali-Yabah-

Qnunah-Al-Laith Dams to Al-Shoaibah" owned by the Ministry of Water & Electricity

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The project includes the construction of Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) of 163,000

cu.m/day purification capacity at Hali, Yabha, Qanunah and Al-Laith dams, ancillary

buildings and laying of 626.5km long water transmission mains from the WTPs to Al-

Shoaibah desalination plant and underground dam. Total cost of all the five phases of the

project is US$ 590 million.

Procurement of Medical Equipment for Hospitals in Afghanistan

A consultancy agreement has been signed by NESPAK for planning and preparation of

bidding documents for the procurement of medical equipment for the Nishtar Kidney Centre

at Jalalabad, 200-bed Jinnah Hospital at Kabul and 100-bed Naeb Amin Ullah Khan Logari

Hospital at Logar, Afghanistan with Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and

Coordination, Government of Pakistan. The medical equipment is being funded and

procured under the Prime Minister's Program for Reconstruction and Rehabilitation of

Afghanistan in tandem with international community. The buildings of these hospitals have

also been designed and supervised by NESPAK.

NESPAK wins Dam Project in Oman

NESPAK has won a project titled “Flood Protection Dam in Wadi Al-Jufainah” in the

Sultanate of Oman. The project was awarded by Oman's Ministry of Regional Municipalities

and Water Resources (MRMWR) to NESPAK in March 2015. NESPAK will review the design

and supervise the construction of this US$ 1.7 million project. It is likely to be completed in

three years. Mr. Muhammad Azam, Chief Engineer, Geotechnical & Geoenvironmental

Division, is the Resident Engineer of the project.

to the Building Services Division(BSD),

Lahore on January 28, 2015. A meeting

was arranged by Mr. Abdul Qayyum

Chaudhry, General Manager/Head BSD to

resolve various critical issues pertinent to

heating, ventilation, air conditioning,

elevator, fire-fighting and electrical works

of the Peshawar High Court Project. The

delegation appreciated the quality

services rendered by NESPAK for the PHC

Project.

received Fellowship of Chartered Institute

of Arbitrators, UK. The Institute is known

worldwide for providing dispute resolution

services to its clients through its panel of

chartered arbitrators.Mr. Imran Waheed completed one-year

post-graduate certificate course in

Arbitration from Robert Gordon University,

Aberdeen, Scotland in October 2014. The

coursework included Arbitration Law,

Arbitration Practice & Procedure and

Arbitral Award Writing. He cleared the peer

interview and was granted Fellowship by

the Institute. Mr. Imran Waheed is only the

sixth person of Pakistani origin and first in

NESPAK to have achieved this honour.

Lecture

Mr. Sohail Kibria, General Manager,

Geotechnical & Geoenvironmental

Engineering Division, delivered a lecture at

the Government Engineering Academy

(GEA) on March 17, 2015 as guest

speaker to a batch of executive engineers

from various government departments

waiting to be promoted as Senior

Engineers.

The lecture titled “Geotechnical Design

Requirements for Safe Structures in

Problematic Ground” elaborated various

practical design/construction scenarios for

buildings, bridges, flyovers and hydraulic

structure. Various case histories of difficult

ground conditions were also narrated

during the deliberation. The lecture was

well received by the audience.

Seminar

Yasir Abbas and Muhammad Mohsin

Munir, Senior Engineers Water Resources

Division have been nominated by NESPAK

for Leadership Development Program ,

Cohort-18, organised by LEAD Pakistan.

They attended two training sessions at

Islamabad and Lahore in December 2014

and February 2015 respectively. The

training will provide them a platform for

interacting with the water experts to

deliberate on the issues related to

transboundary surface waters,

transboundary groundwater aquifers,

disaster management and institutional

frameworks.

Mr. Malik Shahrukh Latif, General

Manager, Water Resources Division

visited the office of Lining of

Distributaries and Minors in Sindh

Project and its site near Hyderabad

along with Mr. Shaukat Ali Memon,

Project Coordinator. They inspected

the ongoing lining activities and

monitored the overall progress.

Mr. Tariq Altaf, General Manager,

Water Resources Division, visited

Design of Roads and Infrastructure Project

in Duqm City, Sultanate of Oman and held

meetings with the Client.

Gold Medal

Mr. Muhammad Danish, Engineer

Foundation & Pavement Section of

Geotechnical & Geo-Environmental

Division, was awarded five Gold Medals

by Prof Dr.Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman

HEC, at the 21st Convocation of University

of Engineering & Technology (UET),

Lahore. He secured three overall best

performance medals and two for his

exceptional performance in the subjects of

structural engineering and hydraulic &

public health engineering.

MEETING

The National Center of Resettlement and Rehabilitation conducted a consultative meeting on

February 25, 2015 to review a recent study titled Enhancing Social Sustainability of Energy

Development by Gender Mainstreaming in Hydropower Projects in Pakistan. The consultative

of Stuttgart, Germany. He studied the use

of drone technology for aerial

photogrammetry and development of

Integrated Navigation System for precise

measurements. He did his research work

on Development of a Graphical User

Interface for the Crowd-based Collection of

Geo data.

Retirement

Mr. Muhammad Yousuf, Chief Engineer,

Geotechnical & Geo-Environmental

Division (GT&GE), retired from NESPAK

services in January 2015 after attaining the

age of superannuation. He joined NESPAK

in 1982 as Engineer and paved his way

through with dedication, untiring efforts

and professionalism. His personality was a

great combination of knowledge, skills and

competency, by which he represented

NESPAK in many local as well as in foreign

projects with desired efficiency and

engineering excellence.

The Foundation & Pavement Section of

GT&GE Division arranged a farewell in a

local restaurant for Mr. Yousuf. He shared

experiences from his professional life with

his colleagues. Later, Mr. Sohail Kibria,

General Manager, concluded the

reception by presenting souvenirs as

reminders on behalf of the division.

NESPAK wishes him best of luck for his

future endeavours.

NESPAK-led joint venture of four

Consultants comprising Engineering

Consultancy Services Punjab (ECSP)

Private Ltd, Cable Car Consultants

(CCC), Switzerland and SMEC, Australia

in addition to NESPAK signed a

contract agreement for carrying out

feasibility study of three cable car

routes in Murree on Jan 02, 2015 with

the Tourism Development Corporation

of Punjab (TDCP). These routes include

Musyari- Commissioner Camp, Murree

Brewery-Pindi Point and Lower Topa-

Kashmir Point. For the selection of

route alignments, experts from CCC

visited the sites in the company of

NESPAK and ECSP engineers in

February 2015 and presented their

findings to Commissioner, Rawalpindi

Division and MD, TDCP. Various

alignment and technology options were

considered during this visit.

SMEC, Australia experts visited the site

Cable Car Project, Murreein March 2015 along with

NESPAK and ECSP experts, in

order to carry out preliminary

slope stability assessment and

landsliding potential at the site.

SMEC experts presented findings

of their visit to Mr. Shahid Khaqan

Abbasi, Minister for Petroleum

and Mr. Hamza Shahbaz Sharif,

Chairman Standing Committee on

Murree Development. The

representatives of TDCP, NESPAK

and ECSP were also present in

the meeting. It was decided in the

meeting that the feasibility study

for Route -2 (Old Murree Brewery

– Pindi Point) will be taken up on

priority basis. Work on the

feasibility study of the project is
