Parent Partnership with Walsall College
In conjunction with Walsall College, Barcroft Primary hold free parent courses in Maths and Computing. There needs to be a minimum of 10 people for the courses to take place. They are held in the afternoon in the Community Room. You are eligible to join if you are a pupil premium family. It is our intention to offer more support packages to our families, if families
are supported then we are in turn also supporting our children. Our aim is not only to support our parents but also take a pro-active approach to building community cohesion and tackling
social exclusion. If you are interested please contact the school office.
PTA
The PTA will be holding a Macmillan Coffee Morning on Friday 27th September from 8.50am in the Community Room. Please come along and join us in supporting a worthy cause.

Penalty Notice
The Government has given Local Education Authorities the power to issue fixed penalty notices where parents or carers are considered capable of but unwilling to ensure their child attends school regularly. The Anti-Social Behaviour Act introduced
those additional powers in February 2004.
Penalty notices are aimed at “unauthorised absences” – times when a child misses school without a valid reason (or without permission from the school) or if a child is regularly late getting into school.
Parents could also be issued with a Penalty Notice if they take their child on holiday in term-time.
The aim of the Penalty Notice is to improve parents’ efforts in getting children to attend school.
Reception/KS1 doors open at 8.45. The gate is locked at 8.55
KS2 doors open at 8.50. The gate is locked at 9.00.
This allows for a 10 minute time slot for children arriving at each side of the building. Anyone arriving after this time will
need to go through the office due to safeguarding the children in the building.
Please can we ask that you do not park on the car park at the front of the school. They are reserved spaces for visitors to the
school and disabled people only. It is not to be used for parking when dropping off and collecting children from the school.
There are bollards which will be raised to protect parents and children who also walk across the car park.
Thank you for your co-operation.
Date Change for May Day 2020.
Some of you may already be aware that May Day 2020 will be changed from Monday 4th May to Friday 8th May.
This is to coincide with the celebrations that will take place to commemorate the 75th anniversary of V.E. Day.
Absent Procedures
If your child is going to be absent from school, please let us know as soon as possible by phoning the school or popping into the
main reception so that we can make sure we record the correct absence mark, otherwise children will be marked down as an
unauthorised absence. Please do not text with the reason for the absence.
Let us Know
If you have any exciting / good news you wish to share with the school please let the school office know

Year 4
Last week Year 4 visited Wroxeter Roman city and explored the ruins of the city. We discovered how the Roman's had underfloor
heating 2000 years ago and that they all bathed together! We were also able to see a recreation of a Roman townhouse and discover
how it was built.
Year 6
Year 6 have had a brilliant start to the year with their topic 'I Wonder'. The driving text behind this topic is ‘Wonder’ by RJ Palacio
and have participated in a 'Wow day' where they showcased helmets which they planned, created and evaluated at home. This mov-
ing text has allowed Year 6 to empathise and try to envisage life through someone else’s eyes.
Year 3
Year 3 and 4 are excited to be going to see Billionaire Boy at the Alexander Theatre next month, where they can see an adaptation of
a text by David Walliams, who is a much loved author studied in Year 3.
Year 3 also enjoyed their visit to the Willenhall Lock Museum where they delved into local history as part of their topic from
“Willenhall to Venice”
Year 2
Year 2 we are currently learning about dinosaurs and are looking forward to a fossil workshop in October where we will investigate
its real fossils and find out how fossils are made! Our dino learning has also linked to science, where we have learnt the difference
between carnivores, omnivores and herbivores.
Nursery / Reception
The children in Nursery and Reception have settled so well into the class. They have been learning all about different families and
friends and sharing their different experiences.
Year 1
Its all fun at the seaside in Year 1. We have been learning about the creatures in rock pods through science and our small world play,
as well as exploring the seaside through stories and pictures
Year 5
The children in Year 5, thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Tatton Park in Cheshire. They experienced what life was like during the
Viking era through role play and participating in practical activities, such as weaving, hunting and cooking, as well as learning about
the different shield formations the Viking warriors would have created in the past. It was an amazing experience where the children
gained significant knowledge of who the Vikings were and where they travelled from as well as the reasons why they settled in Great
Britain.
