Newsletter 6th May 2019 Term 2 Week 2
Principal’s Report
Welcome back to Term 2. I hope everyone had a wonderful break and were able to spend some quality time with their loved
ones. We are looking forward to another fantastic term.
Thank you to everyone who attended the Dawn Service and the ANZAC Day March. It was wonderful to have so many stu-
dents representing our school with pride and paying their respects on such a momentous day.
We finished Term 1 on a high with our Grandparents Day and Easter Hat Parade followed by Year 6's annual Mini Fete. The
school was a buzz with excitement as children went from stall to stall spending their money and helping to raise funds for the
Year 6 farewell and end of year gift to the school.
New staff
Term 2 is set to be another busy term. We begin by welcoming Mrs Michelle Freund who has gained the position of Teacher
Librarian, replacing Mrs Ros Beard. Mrs Amber Pederson also joins out team as our Learning and Support Teacher. She will
be working across K-6 to support both students and teachers.
Attendance
As the new term begins I would like to remind you that you are required to notify the school if your child is absent from
school. Once rolls are marked an SMS will be sent to any parents and/or carers of students who are not present at school.
Parents and carers are required to provide a reason for their child's absence either by replying to the text, using the school
app or sending a note to school.
Athletics Carnival
Our Athletics Carnival took place last Friday at Baxter Field Marks Point. It was fantastic to see so many students participating
in the different events. A massive thank you to all of the wonderful parents and family members who helped out on the day. It
is impossible for events like this to happen without the support of our community. Thank you.
Year 5 Entry to an Opportunity Class for 2020
Opportunity classes located in 75 NSW government primary schools cater for Year 5 and Year 6 academically gifted and tal-
ented students. These classes help gifted and talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and talented stu-
dents and using specialised teaching methods and educational materials at the appropriate level. Online applications are open
from the 30th of April until the 17th of May for students who are wishing to apply for Year 5 entry into an opportunity class
in 2020. An intention to apply letter will be sent home with students in Year 4. If you are considering applying this letter will
need to be returned to the school. Additional information is available at https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-
high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5
Automatic Gates
Automatic gates have recently been installed in the Augusta St and Jones
Ave staff car parks. Only staff and authorised personnel will have access to
these car parks.
Kiss and Drop Zone
Please note that the Kiss and Drop zone is only to be used for a maximum
of 2 minutes and you are expected to be no more than 3m from your car.
We are all responsible for keeping our children safe, particularly at busy
drop off and pick up times.
Looking forward to a wonderful term.

Athletics Carnival
What a day, the rain stayed away!
Congratulations to the students, staff and volunteers that contributed to the 2019 WBPS Athletics Carnival being a suc-
cess. A special mention goes to Mrs McLeod and Miss Bath for the organisation of the day, our hardworking and resilient
office staff, as well as the talented Mrs Milgate who seems born to be in front of a microphone!
The day could not have gone as smoothly as it did without the aid of our fantastic parent and carer volunteers. Your
time and effort made a massive contribution to the success of the students. Thank you so much!
A special mention for our wonderful canteen The Right Bite who coordinated the canteen so successfully. A lot of time
and effort went into the day and we appreciate your commitment to ensuring our kids have the best day possible.
Our discus and shot put events will be held at school over the next couple of weeks so stay tuned! School ribbons for
place winners will be presented at the conclusion of these events.
Kind Regards,
Mr Hull

Welcome back Oshc families to Term 2. With the changing weather conditions please ensure your child has warm cloth-
ing available in their school bags.
Various changes in society increases the expectations of community services like Out of School Hours Care to keep our
young people safe. Recently the school has installed automatic gates that restricts car parking off Jones Avenue. Access to
pick up children is through the pedestrian gates only.
A number of parents commented on the unsafe circumstances of street parking in Jones Avenue. A survey was conduct-
ed and 99% of parents requested Mills Street as the preferred access point. FROM WEEK 2 the pick up entry point will
be from the Mills Street entrance. Thank you parents for your support in this regard.
Best wishes

Coordinator
