I n addition to the flurry of activity that we like to call harvest, the fall season is the time of year when

the Parker family gets out and does some market work around the country.

Spencer made his first ever trip to New York City, coincidentally on the 17th anniversary of September 11th. He participated in a market blitz and represented us at MS Walker Distributing’s annual trade show.

Tim and I hit the road as well. I spent a few days in my old stomping grounds of Maine working with our distributors, Pine State in Portland and Kennebunkport, then I took the opportunity to spend a long weekend with old friends in Small Point, Maine. It is definitely the most beautiful beach in the U.S. and well worth the trip.

Tim trekked to Toronto and Boston where he worked with representatives from Family Wine Merchants and Martignetti Distribution before meeting up with me in Maine. Because Tim and I both endured long, cold

winters during our college days in New England, we feel duty bound to make sure that anyone who wants one can find a bottle of the Big Easy to help keep them warm!

But wait, there’s more!

Greer, Tim and I will meet up in London on October 27th to pour Fess Parker and Addendum wines at Robert Parker’s “Matter of Taste” event. Since we’ll already be over there we’ll take the Chunnel to Paris and make a side trip to Champagne for the day.

While we were gone, Eli “held down the fort” as Fess used to say. He is overseeing all north county business activities including the farming and cattle ranching operations, interfacing daily with management at the Wine

Country Inn and TBAS. Don’t feel too badly for him though. As the ranking sibling and elder statesman, he will be representing the winery on an Oceana cruise from Lisbon, Portugal to London next spring.

Looking forward to catching up the next time you visit us in Los Olivos. Thank you for your ongoing support!

What a beautiful start to the 2018 Vintage! I have not seen a year

like this since the wonderful vintages of 2007 and 2012. The growing season started with a cool, wet spring which led into a cool, moderate summer. Things eventually started to heat up in July and the first half of August and then cooled down and an early fall climate with significant fog and marine cooling rolled in.

We have harvested all of our Pinot Noir for the Fesstivity sparkling wines and slowly started pecking away at Pinot Noir for our vineyard designated programs. Next to come into the winery will be Riesling and Viognier. There is still plenty of time for Syrah and the Red Rhône varietals, and we may not pick them until well into October and even November! We have not picked grapes in

November since the 2012 vintage. It feels good to have a slower, more temperate vintage where I am able to casually make decisions, rather than frantically trying to find space! Hopefully Mother Nature continues to bless us with this cool weather and the rain stays away until the last grapes are in! As usual, wish us luck!

I better get back out and join my team on the sorting table! As always, it is a pleasure making wine for your enjoyment and from all of us here at Fess Parker…
