Principals Report Thank You and Best Wishes
for the Holiday Season. What an exceptional year we have all experienced. Whoever would have thought that the majority of the school year would be spent teaching and learning from home. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our students, families and staff for the amazing partnership you have forged together. Our staff were absolutely vigilant in checking in with students/ families to ensure they felt supported through the lengthy periods of remote learning. This year has taught everyone important life lessons. It has helped us to understand that regardless of our differences we are essentially all people, facing this together. THANK YOU for all your positive and generous contributions to H.P.S being “the best it can be.”
Have a safe and happy holiday season with your loved ones.
See you all in the New Year.
Final Assembly This week we will have our final assembly on Friday 11th December. This week we will record the assembly and then provide families with a link to view it at their convenience.
Final Day arrangements As parents will be aware, the dismissal time for the end of Term 1, 2 and 3 is 2.30pm. Department of Education & Training regulations allow dismissal time to be 1.30pm on the last day of the school year (Friday 18th December) if four hours of school time have been conducted. As such school will operate on the last day as follows: 9.00-11.00am - Class time
11.00-11.30am - Recess
11.30-1.30pm - Class time As we will not be having a lunch break it is suggested that students be provided with a large snack to consume at recess. The School Staff and School Council also wish to inform all families that on the final day of the school year, Friday the 18th December, formal lessons will not be held and all students attending will be assisting with cleaning and organisational tasks. Crossing Supervision As the finish time of the final school day is 1.30 pm the School Crossing will NOT be manned by the Shire Council crossing supervisors. This is because the speed limits on school crossings are ONLY 2.30 – 4.00 pm and crossing supervisors are only permitted to assist students at these times. The 1.30pm dismissal time causes us a road safety issue as the Mornington Peninsula Shire does not allow the supervisors to attend the crossings at this time. Therefore we will have Teaching Staff supervising the crossing on Hodgins Rd and at the Kings Creek crossing.

In particular, the students using the crossing at Kings Creek will be expected to walk with the teachers after school.

Transition Here at Hastings Primary School our staff have considered a range of factors so we can create balanced classes that enhance a positive and collaborative learning environment for our students. We recognise the importance of fostering and maintaining friendship groups. We also understand that it is equally important for students to mix and learn with peers who have different interests. This week we have completed our ‘internal transition’ program, with our final ‘MEET THEIR TEACHER’ session coinciding with State Wide Orientation.
