Hoping youve all had a great start to the week and bit of rain! **** Gauging interest in a community gardenproject to make the most of the Ag Plot at BCDS. If you have an interest and passion for gardening, our school and the community, wed love to hear from you! Please contact Tony Jarvis on 0427 586 035 to register your interest. All members of the community welcome!! **** Our last governing council meeng was held on Monday 3 rd August. Thank you to those who aended and those who provided reports for the meeng. Your me is invaluable! Finance reported on several grants received by BCDS/Kindy to assist with literacy/ numeracy, Covid19 cleaning, maintenance and immunizaon requirements. The Pre- school Maintenance Grantwill be divided between the Booleroo site and the Melrose site. Alby Nicholls was also successful in gaining three sports grants. Staff have been busy preparing submissions for the 2021 budget. These submissions will be reviewed at the next finance meeng. A summary was presented around learnings in the 4/5/6 class with Emma Benne. It is fantasc to hear that Emma has drawn on Professional Development around STEM”. The students will be taking part in an invesgaon relang to bees with great ideas around cross-curricular learning. The students will have the opportunity to make bees wax wraps and Andrew Geddes will assist in making bee hotels”. Its lovely to hear the SRC are working in conjuncon with our Ag and Grounds commiee to make plans and engage helpers for the landscaping/paving of the bus area. The SRC, as always are working hard to provide students with opportunies for enjoyment and fundraising. Keep an eye out in the newsleer and Facebook for more informaon…. We have been told that the Colour Runwill be held again this year as it was a hit last year! Looking forward to it! As menoned above Ag/Grounds are gauging interest in a community garden project. It was also confirmed that costs involved into cropping are to be paid by the school. Many thanks to those who have begun clearing the Ag Plots. The updated Uniform Policy and Terms of Reference for the Uniform Commiee were rafied at our meeng. Thanks to the Uniform Commiee for your work on this. Uniform dress code is included for your viewing. There are mulple ideas for fundraising on the table; however, these are on hold unl mes become more certain. Keep your eyes open for informaon. Hi everyone!

Hoping you’ve all had a great start to the week and bit of rain!

**** Gauging interest in a “community garden” project to make the most of the Ag Plot at BCDS. If you have an interest and passion for gardening, our school and the community, we’d love to hear from you! Please contact Tony Jarvis on 0427 586 035 to register your interest. All members of the community welcome!! ****

Our last governing council meeting was held on Monday 3rd August. Thank you to those who attended and those who provided reports for the meeting. Your time is invaluable!

The “Pre-school Maintenance Grant” will be divided between the Booleroo site and the Melrose site. Alby Nicholls was also successful in gaining three sports grants. Colours: Main colour is MAROON with accent colours of navy, white and grey. Standard Uniform:

Jeans, hoodies &/or other design features are not acceptable as part of the school uniform. Discreet brand names and stripes in school colours are acceptable.

Hats: In line with the School’s Sun Smart Policy, hats are required to be worn all year round. These should be a broad-brimmed hat (8-10cm brim width) or “bucket” style with a deep crown and brim width of 6cm (5cm for younger stu-dents).

Parents and students are advised that closed footwear must be worn in workrooms where chemicals and machinery

are used for WH&S standards eg Science, Technical Studies & Home Economics. The only acceptable open shoes are a

sandal. Thongs, scuffs and slides are not appropriate for school. Ugg boots are also not considered appropriate closed

footwear.

Dental Assistant Traineeships (SA Dental Service)

12 month traineeships are available with on the job training at SA Dental Service clinics and study through TAFE SA. You will need to be 17-24 years of age (or up to 30 years if Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander). Applications open 28th August and close on 18th September. Open Days

Prospective students can visit their future campuses and take a tour of the facilities, explore study options and career paths. Students will need to book a campus tour to attend by visiting the website of their preferred campus and search for open days information. This is different to past years due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) course

BCDS in conjunction with TAFE SA will be hosting a RSA course on September 1st from late afternoon. Community members, including those involved in sporting clubs, are invited to attend. School News Spotlight on Stage 1 major Tech projects

Semester 1 seems so long ago, but it is important to reflect and celebrate the student’s success and hard work. The Stage 1 Material Solution class finished up their major projects from Semester 1 recently and they all achieved excel-lent finished products. The students used a variety of skills to complete a garden bench made from a combination of wood and metal material (Kodi Carey), redgum coffee table with metal frame (Mitchell Orrock), a bar stool featuring redgum back rest with metal frame (Jaxon Kumnick), a pine step stool (Lisa Stevens) and two timber tool storage chests (Hunter Cheriton and Brenton Stevens).

Sapsasa News

Congratulations to Dani Heaslip, Grace Winen, Bella Hall and Harrison Roocke who have all been selected in the North Eastern Sapsasa Teams. Dani and Grace have been selected in the Soccer Team and will compete in the state carnival in Adelaide on Monday 24th August - Wednesday 26th August. Bella and Harrison have been selected in the Netball and Football teams and will compete in the state carnival in Adelaide on Monday 7th September - Wednesday 9th September. The State carnivals are only 2.5 days this year due to COVID-19.

Statewide Volleyball

The attached photo is of the students that com-peted in the Statewide Volleyball Carnival in Jamestown this week. More details to follow in next week’s newsletter and also on the School’s Facebook page.

School News Subject Counselling – Individual SACE student interviews (Year 10 & 11 students)

Thank you to the parents and students who supported the SACE Information Nights for Stage 1 and Stage 2. We real-ly appreciate your support of our programs and trust that you have gained a broad picture of the options in the SACE which will be refined in the coming weeks.

Students have completed their initial subject selection forms. Subjects offered in 2021 are then considered. Students have been encouraged to explore a range of options including SUN and VET courses, and the range of subjects from the SACE website.

Individual subject counselling sessions are held for each student. The meeting times will be on Wednesday and Thurs-day after school (26st and 27th August), and on Friday 28th August. There will be no classes held on Friday for Year 10 and 11 students.

Sapsasa Basketball

Early this term, our students had the opportunity to participate in SAPSASA Basketball. Bella Hall, Bayley Dodman and Caleb Prosser played in a combined BCDS/JHS team at Crystal Brook. St James PS were the eventual winners for the day but our teams were very competitive, espe-cially considering they had not played any basketball in a long time or played together. The girls won two of their three matches, while the boys won their final match against St James by one point. Huge thanks to Liz Prosser and Teegan Prosser for their umpiring.
