Robin Hood Scout Camp New Year 2016 / 17 And so we set sail for New Year. The approach was a little icy but the warm welcome from Captains Hart and

their first mates, made up for the icy chill in the air.

Once ship shape and Bristol fashion the tea and coffee flowed and stories were shared of the Christmas festivities.

As the good ship 'Black Hart' set sail, the aromas of supper filled the air.

Crews were gathered from all corners of the country- Blackbeard, Blackbart, Calico Jack and Jack Sparrow.

Do not let their niceties fool you- each had dreams of treasure and doubloons, treachery and skullduggery ... but

for the moment thoughts returned to supper and the galley was filled with rum and salt

crackers (too much poetic licence? Ok jacket spuds and wine)

Music filled the air and each took their turn in sea shanties and Gloria Gaynor!

The crews gained their first pay of silver doubloons- everyone's eyes watched in envy as favouritism

surfaced...Those with two left feet - or one leg Jim- one leg, stood no chance as we were introduced to

the two step.

Well rested and no sea sickness showing we headed off on land leave, to the far off land of Mansfield

and the show they had to offer. Second star to the right and on till morning, were the only directions given and many felt the need

for sustenance on route in rum houses throughout the town. The show did us proud- a wonderful escape to the world of

Neverland, with flying and fighting, sadness and cheers. But for one crew member things lay

ahead.

Things would never be the same....

Once again on board the infamous 'Black Hart' lay tests and trials to

make even the worldliest pirate quake in their boots.

But for first mate Nigel things were to come...Lights off, we sat in

silence ready to pounce.

He knew something was amiss and tentatively entered.....

Happy Birthday! With cake to share washed down with a little more rum (yes I know -poetic licence)

the trials began.

Cut throat razors at the ready...(well not cut throat but bic doesn't sound as

good.) we shaved our crew with exploding results and showered in ....the decks

would definitely need swabbing. If this was not enough, skills were tested

further with brooms in hand and negotiating the obstacles on the deck for yet

more doubloons! In desperation crew began to use skullduggery to gain more

rewards, and if the light had been better, the Black Bart would have been the

chosen crew, but misreading the labels cost them dearly.....ALAN! Blackbeard

began to pull ahead...Yo ho ho!

Set the main sail! The day was here, the last day of 2016 cold wet and breezy! Invitations had been

sent and rsvps returned in full- to the admirals ball in pirate's best.

Colours raised in celebration as a truly wonderful banquet awaited us one and all. Bellies full and

happy smiles, rum flowing and music in the air, the final games began for the treasure of dou-

bloons. Who would be the chosen crew aboard the Black Hart?

Then the bell began to toll- loud and clear for all to hear. No turning back, no second chance all

eyes to the future and the possibilities it would bring. Welcome 2017 !!!!

With dancing and singing the new year was welcomed, friendships made stronger and old friends remembered.

As the light faded on board the deck, thoughts of the gallery and the breakfast it would bring, made for merry crews and sweet

dreams.

10.30 am the first of 2017 the galley opened it's shutters as breakfast was served. A perfect start to the new year.

Then followed the news we had waited to hear. Which crew would be the chosen ones? We took tickets, listening carefully for our

number (hang on in there Lesley yours will come) and treasures were given. ATTENTION ON DECK! With welcome help from the

dim light and the pilfering - the winning team was not Black Bart but Black Beard-and such a shiny treasure was given and received.

For all the help they had received from the dim light and crew member of Black Bart (Alan) a cheaters cup was also given as shiny as

can be!

Much calmer seas did follow that night, with takeaways and quiet conversation. A most exciting adventure for one and all on the good

ship 'Black Hart' with their first mates. Without them the new year would not have been welcomed in such a fantastic and memorable

fashion - thank you 'me 'arties'! Kim, Nigel and Chloe, Alison and Mike.

And it would only be right to thank the captains of our voyage, Gaynor, Matt and Calvin. Happy New Year to one and all - looking

forward to seeing you all on a rally field soon.

Barnstones Caravan park 27th –29th January (By one of our Junior members)

Friday

On Friday night we arrived quite late, but were not the last caravan to arrive, for once! For dinner we had a really nice chilli with the

Cookson’s. That night was quite a late night ending at 23:30.

Saturday day time

We woke up at around 08:00 because I had to go to a rugby match with school (Leicester Tigers V.S Northampton Saints) We left the

caravan at 10 so we would get there in plenty of time. We even had half an hour at home to watch TV. It took an hour in the minibus

which wasn’t that long. When we got there we looked around the stadium and met some of the players which was awesome. All the

food was very expensive. The first half went really slow 17-8 to the Tigers. In half time I went to the merchandise shop and bought a

rugby ball and little ted with the teams logo on it. The second half was better because it went faster the final score was 27-20 to the

Tigers. When we got back mum was there ready to take me back to the caravan site. Dad had stayed on his own in the caravan

probably watching TV and snoozing.

Saturday Night

When we got back we picked Dad, Mike and Alison up and travelled to the pub for flag and dinner. The Brasenose Arms had a lovely

atmosphere with a live band who were exceptionally good and very friendly staff. The meal was really nice I had …

Starter : chicken wings

Main : pie

Sweet : Chocolate cake

Then we had flag which we had to do quick because the band were on a break. In the Chocolate raffle I won a massive bar of

Chocolate which will last me forever.

Sunday

I do not like going home days from a rally, everyone disappeared one by one. For once we wasn’t the last to leave. Can you guess

who was left onsite when we started our journey home?

So overall this has been the best Barnstones that I have ever been to so a big thank you to Roy and Carole Abson, I hope it as good

next year!

Royal Oak – 31st March – 02nd April

Arrive at 11.30am. Sandy and Gary were getting set up, we set up and were joined later by Colin and

Julie and Lesley and Pete.

Went across to the Royal Oak for a drink and then enjoyed a curry that Gaz has cooked for us.

After that we chilled out in the van on a game or two of scrabble.

Saturday.

The sun was shining; we went to the caravan shop, then into Bingham for a wander round, and to buy

lovely cream cakes for afternoon tea. Christine and Mick had called to see Gary and Sandy in the

afternoon, and we all had a nice chat.

Saturday night we all went to the Royal Oak for a meal which was really

lovely.

After the meal we all returned to our van to chill and relax.

Sunday was a beautiful day with lots of sunshine; we all sat in the sun having a right good chinwag.

Lesley told us that she didn’t like origami on her chips, we all laughed. Sandy pointed out to Lesley that

origami was paper folding, what she meant to say was oregano, It was an easy mistake to make.

We all packed away and set off for home.

Thanks to Lesley and Pete for a most enjoyable weekend with great company.
