NEWSLETTER Provident Fund
There are negative stories and gossip re-
garding retirement funds. Do not listen to
such to such untruths. Your retirement
money is safe with Momentum Employee
Benefits, a department within MMI Group
Ltd. The IMQAS retirement fund falls un-
der the umbrella fund called FundsAt-
Work. Our employee benefit consultants
are capably assisting with any queries that
you may have and they keep pressure on
Momentum to speedily address any issues.
Our management committee also had its
first meeting in February. The members
were briefed by the consultant on the
changes in legislation, the investments and
administrative matters. You will receive the
annual benefit statement in June which will
inform you of your savings and confirm
your benefits. A newsletter to fully inform
you of all retirement matters will also be
sent out.
Abattoir industry
Our customers are still experiencing a
challenging business environment. It is up
to you to assist them to the best of your
ability. Now is the time to walk the extra
mile for our clients. Remember that they
are the sole reason for the existence of
IMQAS. You are the ambassadors of
IMQAS on a daily basis. Be proud of that
and do it well.
Best wishes for a Blessed month of May.
GH OBERHOLZER
Dear colleagues
Autumn is giving way to winter. Tempera-
tures are dropping and cold fronts are pass-
ing over the country. Soon we will have win-
ter storms in the Cape and snow over large
parts of the country. Keep warm and look
after your health. The time for colds, flu,
bronchitis and pneumonia is approaching.
Meat inspection scheme
We have heard nothing more from the De-
partment of Agriculture, Forestry and Fish-
eries. The period for commenting on the
draft legislation closed at the end of January.
Industry is now waiting for the amended
scheme to be made public.
Compensation commissioner
It is important that all injuries on duty im-
mediately be reported to the personnel de-
partment. If this is not done and the injury
turns out to be more serious with long term
effects, it could have negative financial impli-
cations. Unfortunately the paperwork must
be done quickly and correctly.
Human resources
Rego Ditle has left our employment. We
wish her only the best in her new career.
Natasha Bisschoff has joined IMQAS as hu-
man resource officer. You will liaise with
her in future. We wish her a long and suc-
cessful career with us and look forward to
her contributions.

Cysticercus cellulosae found in pigs is the intermediate stage of the tapeworm Taenia solium,
which occurs in the small intestine of humans.
Cysticerci in pigs are found in the brain, liver, heart and skeletal muscles. It rarely found in
feedlot animals but can occur in free range or wild pigs.
Antemortem findings :
1. Fever in acute stages
2. Muscle stiffness
Postmortem findings :
1. Cysts in the heart and skeletal muscles
2. Cysts in liver, brain and meninges
Judgement : Heavy infestation (as shown in the pic) with Cysticercus cellulosae calls for car-
cass condemnation. In light or moderate infestation, the carcass may be conditionally ap-
proved pending freezing treatment although this method is often not preferred.
