PRESIDENTS MESSAGE I t’s been a busy fall for the City Park Community Association and the neighbourhood. We have a few new people that have joined our team or shuffled into different roles, which includes me. This is my first year in the president role and I’ve just been thrilled to volunteer with such smart and interesting people committed to building community in City Park. Nicole Smith has joined as the Social Media coordinator and she’s been beautifully capturing moments and landmarks in our neighborhood. Make sure to like us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter so you’ll never miss an update or new photo. Jerah Korol is keeping us in the black as the new treasurer, Rebecca Koskie has generously taken on the programming coordinator role, and Barbara Shirley has been diligently documenting our meeting minutes as the new secretary. A s I am sure you are all aware of, the renovations at the Montessori school had forced us to cancel our fall programming, but I am glad to announce that programming will resume in January. Further details regarding registration and scheduling will be posted to our website and Facebook page. While not having school space for meetings and programming this fall has been a bit frustrating, it has given us the opportunity to reflect on what our priorities are and whether or not our activities are meeting the needs of the neighbourhood. Our ultimate goal as a community association is to bring people together and build community, but in order to do that we need to hear from all you. We’ve created a survey that will help us understand what you expect from the CPCA and what areas you’d like us to focus on. Please visit the website or Facebook page to complete the survey. We can’t wait to hear your thoughts! T his fall we have had a couple of issues brought to our attention. With increased enrollment at the Montessori school, there have been concerns raised about the increased traffic in the neighbourhood. We’ve asked the City of Saskatoon to consider a speed limit reduction within the neighbourhood and better school zone signage along 9th Ave. The second issue involved the power pole installation on the corner of Spadina and Queen. This project has not been without its controversy and resident’s concerns have been centred on the lack of community consultation. The CPCA has been in dialogue with the City of Saskatoon to clarify the consultation process and asking Saskatoon Light and Power to develop consultation policies for large infrastructure projects. A s for upcoming events, we have lots of exciting things planned. In January, we will be hosting Ski Day in Kinsmen Park followed by Rink Day in February. In the spring, we will be holding a “Things You Wrote as Kids/Things Your Kids Wrote” event and our first Movie Night in Wilson Park. President’s Message

It’s been a busy fall for the City Park Community Association and the neighbourhood. We have a

few new people that have joined our team or shuffled into different roles, which includes me.

As I am sure you are all aware of, the renovations at the Montessori school

had forced us to cancel our fall programming, but I am glad to announce that programming will resume in January. Further details regarding registration and scheduling will be posted to our

website and Facebook page.

This fall we have had a couple of issues brought to our attention. With increased

enrollment at the Montessori school, there have been concerns raised about the increased traffic in the neighbourhood. We’ve asked the City of Saskatoon to consider a speed limit reduction within the neighbourhood and better school zone signage along 9th Ave. The second issue involved the power pole installation on the corner of Spadina and Queen. This project

has not been without its controversy and resident’s concerns have been centred on the lack of community consultation. The CPCA has been in dialogue with the City of Saskatoon to clarify the consultation process and asking Saskatoon Light and Power to develop consultation policies for large infrastructure projects.

As for upcoming events, we have lots of exciting things planned. In January, we will

be hosting Ski Day in Kinsmen Park followed by Rink Day in February. In the spring, we will be holding a “Things You Wrote as Kids/Things Your Kids Wrote” event and our first Movie Night in Wilson Park. Watch for updated information in the newsletter, on our website, and Facebook page.

As the holiday season is upon us it is a great time to reflect on the past year and all that has been done.

Council has been busy with the new structure of Council leads on portfolios. I am responsible for Economic Development and have been working closely with many organizations in Saskatoon to move this forward. I have also had numerous meetings with many Ministers in Ottawa to discuss Saskatoon and our economic development.

In addition, I continue to represent you on the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities (SUMA) and Federation Candian MUnicipalities (FCM) Boards of Directors and numerous standing and policy committees.

Thank you, residents of Ward 1, for your continued support and I look forward to continuing to work with you. Thank you to everyone who has contacted me and helped to improve the quality of life in our community.

If you are interested in hosting a block coffee meeting or evening social meeting, please contact me. I would be more than happy to coordinate a date and come to discuss neighbourhood and city-wide issues.

If you would like to receive regular e-mail updates from me, please send me an email with your name, ad-dress and phone number, and I will add you to the distribution list.

Merry Christmas to you and yours. I wish you a New Year of health and happiness!

Be well,

Darren
