2015 Bi-Annual Community Survey: Executive Summary Commentary: As part of our school self re-view process, we surveyed our school community in Term 3 of 2015.

We consider the review process to be a valuable part of our continuing growth and certainly in line with our Vision Statement. “Quality learning for all in a caring community” The Board have decided that each fortnight, we will publish one part of the survey, rather than giving it out. A full copy of our survey is available at the office and on our website.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES TRIENNIAL ELECTIONS For the first time in a long time we have a voting election! 6 candidates have put themselves forward to share their attributes, experience and expertise for the benefit of Toko School. NOW IT IS UP TO YOU! Voting forms can be placed in the ballot box at the school office or returned by post. Voting closes at noon on Friday 3

rd June. Don’t miss your opportunity to select who you think can make a positive difference to your children’s

learning! The New Board takes office on-Friday 10th June 2016

RIPPA RUBY FOR ALL YEAR 5 AND 6 CHILDREN The children showed terrific fortitude and stamina on Friday by playing back to back games of Rippa in the pouring rain. The children all showed terrific sports-manship. Titans played 5 games, won 4 and drew 1. Terrors played 5 games, 4 wins and 1 draw. Tigers played 4 games, won 2 and lost 2. The Titans Competition team came first equal with Stratford Primary and have made it to the Taranaki Finals at Yarrow Stadium on Monday. There has been a note sent home for the children concerned. Good luck to the Titans on Monday. KEEPING CHIDLREN SAFE AFTER SCHOOL At the most recent PTA meeting it was discussed how congested the bus turnaround was getting after school. As a result children’s safety is being compromised. We are asking that parents drive and park at the furthest point so others cars can come in and park safely behind you and so on. We have also organised Year 7 & 8 monitors to be at the gate each day after school. They will be in yellow vests and will only allow children out the gate if they can see their parents car and to assist crossing the road if their parents are parked on the grass. AFTER SCHOOL ARRANGEMENTS

If arrangements change for your child after school can you please write a note or send an e.mail to: of-fice@toko.,school.nz. If parents don’t notify the school of changes we will always default to the usual plan. With winter sport upon us it can get very confusing after school and as a result we need to be informed of changes. WESTPAC RESCUE HELICOPTER. The School Council are holding our annual appeal for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter on Friday the 27th of May. This year the Council would like to have a Wacky Hair Day to raise funds for this very valuable community resource. Children are encouraged to wear their hair in a wacky way and to bring a gold coin donation. Councillors have organised lunchtime activities, weather permitting, and a colouring competition that will be sent home this week. BOT UPDATE

12. Transition to school - If your child has started school for the first time in the last 12 months how would you rate our transition to school procedures? 100% of respondents feel the transition to school procedures are Excellent or good. 12a. Do you have any additional comments to make about our transition to school procedures?

Letting new parents know about little things like swimming every day. We have only

started at Toko at the beginning of Term 3, so have not yet received reports etc. We do

enjoy the class blog and having e-mails sent to us when it has been updated. Also a fab

way for family overseas to keep in touch with children's activities etc. Valued the Mutu-

karoa meetings and goal setting. The Mutukaroa meetings have been excellent - you

get a clear picture of where your child is at and some goals that you can work on with

your child - encourages education to become a partnership between home and school. RECOMMENDATIONS: Ensure that our New Entrant Parents are given our New Entrant Information booklet on enrolment and via our website and that they feel informed about our new entrant proce-dures and transition.

Include regular information in the newsletter about swimming. Include information about swimming in our Introductory Book. To continue with the Mutukaroa programme for children 5 – 7 years old and update school documentation to reflect this.
