Management and Development Foundation (MDF) and Awaz CDS in joint venture have been awarded a project titled “Community Mobilization and Engagement Partners for Saaf Pani Project – Package – 2 for four districts of Punjab Province i.e. Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan and Lodhran districts

to plan and implement sustainable water schemes. The project package has two main components (i)-Social mobilization of communities for formation of Saaf Paani committees in villages and (ii)- establishment of RO plants , UFO plants where water is drinkable and Saaf Paani Sahulat centers where water is brackish or undrinkable

water is brackish and undrinkable . All these facilities will be operated by Saaf Paani committee . Social mobilization main objective is to create community stewardship for any of water treatment facility to be installed in the village.

The Project

For provision of clean drinking water in rural Punjab province , Govt of Punjab has established a company “The Punjab Saaf Paani Company” under Section 42 of the Companies Ordinance 1984 which has partnered with social development organizations to assist PSPC and local people to come together on one page


The contract agreement ceremony was held in PSPC Head Office Lahore on 19th Jan 2015. The contract was signed by PSPC Chief Executive Officer Mr Farasat Iqbal, Executive Director MDF Mr. Mustafa Hassan Rajper & CEO Awaz CDS Mr Zia ur Rehman. General Manager Strategic Planning Mr Abid Shah Hussainy, CFO Mr. Nasir Qadir, GM Project M. Muhammad Ali Shaikh, President MDF Dr. Yameen Memon & others were present on the occasion.

A rapid assessment activity has been started in order to conduct mapping of the potential villages for two models of the PSPC . For this 20 well experienced enumerators have been hired to conduct rapid field assessment at village basis. In each of one tehsils of four districts .

Training of Enumerators & Project Staff:

The regular project staff and enumerators were given project orientation to know about background, rational and objectives of the project... While the same time, 2-day intensive training was begun on conducting participatory action research in target villages. The both MDF & Awaz CDS organized such training at its Hub Office Bahawalpur on 10th Feb 2015. The 36 partcipants attended the event. the program. He was also the chief guest of the program.. The event was consisted of indoor activities comprising of orientation on questionnaire, following research ethics, field planning, field staff targets, risk mitigation strategy, coordination and timely completion of assignment. The questionnaire was the main focus of the training, the emphasis was laid on how to fill it without error and if occurs then its immediate rectification.

Mr. Muhammad Paryal Health &Hygiene The Team of Punjab Saaf Pani accompanied by its partners MDF & Awaz conducted meetings / discussion with general community separately with men and women groups. General community discussed their issues particularly drinking water. All the villages mentioned above were using arsenic water of yellow color. Although government installed water pumps and pipeline of RWSS but all were dysfunctional due to many reasons. For future people were committed to well manage to RWSSs or any other option suggested by technical team of PSPC. Officials of PSPC were told that the company will bear the operational cost for three years, if a Filtration Plant is found feasible. On a question that the people often promise to run the schemes on their own but end up leaving it unattended for various reasons, the community of the mentioned villages promised that, “If they will continue to get clean drinking water for three years, it would be impossible for them to let the scheme abandoned or non-functional

The PSPC board meeting was held at its Head Office in Lahore on 19th Feb 2015. The meeting was chaired by MPA & Chairperson Dr. Ayesha; purpose of the meeting was sharing project progress to know current strategic position and plan to get maximum results in minimum time

A one day PSPC workshop with Partner Organizations was held in Lahore on 26th Feb 015. The main theme of the workshop was to share progress of the project and brief the presentation on MIS & complain response mechanism. The PSPC officials Mr. Farasat Iqbal CEO PSPC, Mr. Mohsin Babbar Manager Communication and Ms. Ayesha Research Analyst accompanied by other PSPC officials were present there. A session was also delivered about the monitoring indicators while the workshop by Ms. Lesely; in which workshop she developed monitoring indicators and briefly described to the participants.
