in such things, but in silence as in a gentle breeze is the Lord heard” (3 Kings 19:12-14). It is important to understand that silence, like all tools of the spiritual life, is not an end in itself. It is a means—a method for coming to know Jesus Christ. Silence is necessary because our intellects, emotions, and social connections may be wounded and we yearn for healing. Silence can allow our body and minds to reconnect with God through prayer so that we may hear within our hearts His words of wisdom and guidance.
