PRESIDENTS LETTER: Hard to believe that fall is upon us and we are looking toward the awards banquet and annual meeting. Again it will be at the Joliet Country Club in Joliet, IL on Sunday, January 31st 2016. More details to come. We want to thank everyone who came to our shows this year, we know you have choices on where to show and we appreciate your support. We are already planning for next year and would like to hear from you if there is something you would like to see added. Example might be adding some AQHA classes if you are looking to qualify for the World Show or Select. Or maybe some just for fun classes. Please let us know what your thoughts are. We need to continue to think out of the box to keep the club vibrant. Share any ideas at [email protected]. We are also having the Secrets of Judging again this year on Saturday March 5th. Please get your request in early as we can only handle 40 More information in this newsletter. Good Luck to everyone going to the Affiliate Regional's. Plans are to stall together and make this a team effort. More information on this is in the newsletter from Carlotta who has been coordinating this effort. Want to thank everyone who participated in Pie Day and for Judy Friedman and Pat Woodruff for their work to make this happen. Also a thanks goes out to Laurie Daniels who is a member and also does our logo work on our sweatshirts, tee's , jackets. She operates this business on the side under Dry Brush. She has a new horse and we will see her back in the show pen in 2016. Thank you to Molly Donahue and Villa Farms for their wonderful hospitality on our first Play Day. Villa Farms has such a long history of horses and riders and I hope everyone had the opportunity to see the wagons that dated back to the early 1900s and her family that owned them. Molly had a binder with pictures of family, wagons and horses. We hope everyone had a good time and enjoyed the play day. Albert Burton did the grilling and some of the judging along with Kelly Posey and Kole Price. This trio also help coach. Carlotta Baker did the coordination of this pay day and did a wonderful job along with her daughter Katilyn and behind the scenes Jodi Summer. See the new Fund Raiser which will help support your club in this newsletter. Hope to see you at the banquet. Kathy

Spotlight:
Kaitlyn Eve Baker Waverly, Illinois As told to: Gigi Challas Kaitlyn Baker is the daughter of Brad and Carlotta Baker, who reside in Waverly, Illinois. Kaitlyn attends Waverly High School as a Junior, and plans to attend college in the future. She also keeps a part-time job, and enjoys helping children with disabilities. Kaitlyn has a brother, Cole, who is currently 12 years old. He also likes the horses and enjoys trail riding. You may often see Kaitlyn putting Cole on a reiner, having him spin and giving him a taste of the reining addiction. Kaitlyn’s earliest recollection of riding a horse is as a small child, held in her mother’s arms and rocking in the saddle. She then moved on to entering lead line classes. At age 9, her mother introduced her to the sport of Reining. The Baker family currently own five horses, one mini, and two dogs, Cheech and Dottie. Kaitlyn enjoys all of the animals and claims to have no favorite. “I love them all”, she says. As we know, the sport of Reining is quite challenging and harder than it appears. Kaitlyn enjoys the challenge, and of course her favorite maneuver is the “spin”. There isn’t a favorite win in Kaitlyn’s mind, but she says she will never forget her first score of “70”. The horse Kaitlyn has shown the last few years is a gelding named Smart Flashy . This year Kaitlyn ended up winning the Hi Point Year End Award in Youth 14-18 and Rookie I for the Indiana Reining Horse Association and Illinois Reining Horse Association. In the MWRHA she was Reserve Champion Youth 14-18.
Way to go Kaitlyn! This year before our Springfield, IL show, Kaitlyn purchased Dunit Playin Bingo. A palomino gelding that she just had to have. She put shoes on him three days before the show, and literally with only riding him three times, courageously showed him and earned a score of 69.5. Sounds like another success story in the future for Kaitlyn and Bingo!

“A Diamond is a Girl’s Best Friend”
by Lisa Paczesny
In 2008 I began my
venture into the
reining world after 15
years of riding
pleasure horses. I was
at the Breeders Cup
to cheer on some
friends when a little
paint mare by Like A
Diamond sparked my
interest. I asked the trainer if she was for sale, figuring she would be
out of my price range anyways. She was—but I knew this horse had
something special & I was determined to have her. I made some calls,
pawned a big diamond ring & came home from Gordyville with a new
horse, Famous Like A Diamond! (I should have named her
HadToSellMyDiamonds!!) We showed a bit in green horse as well as
IHSA show team when I brought her with me to college for my last year.
After graduation, I moved to Texas with my dog in the passenger seat &
Famous in the trailer behind me. Even after a long 16 hour work day in the Texas heat I would get off work & ride Famous
through miles of beautiful country. After moving back to Illinois I got back into the pen at some Midwest NRHA shows & won
my first paycheck with Famous at the State Fair show in Springfield. You have probably never heard anyone so excited for a
$12.16 check!
In 2013 I decided I wanted to eventually move
up & show more competitively so I began
researching stallions to compliment my mares
breeding & conformation. After months of
research and speaking with trainers at the
futurity I booked to Smoking Whiz, who, shown
by Andrea Fappani has won over $200,000 &
Bob Loomis has deemed “Topsail Whiz’s
replacement”. After 11 long months & several
sleepless nights (7 of which were in the barn on a fold up chair with a
portable heater) Famous had a beautiful, blaze faced sorrel filly named
Hollywood. She was just what I had hoped & prayed for, & I will never forget
that day. (if you don’t believe me, ask to see the video of me crying
hysterically as if I had just given birth!) After weaning, Famous went back into
training in hopes to show all season & win a green buckle before moving up to rookie next year. After two great shows in 2015
& earning our personal best scores, my worst nightmare became a reality. I received a call from my trainer to “get to the barn
as fast as I could”. I lost my best friend that day to the neurological form of EHV…my “once in a lifetime” horse. If you haven’t
had yours yet, I hope you can experience that bond at least once in your lifetime. If you have had that special horse, you know
how bad it hurts to lose them. I am so grateful to have known that love, trust & partnership for seven wonderful years with
Famous & am so very lucky to have a piece of her left behind in her filly. ADiamondWhizForever, Hollywood, will make her
debut in 2017 & I cannot wait to be back in the show pen doing what I love.
