RAINBOW CHILDREN HOME NEPAL

This Children home is dedicated to providing the orphaned, poor and marginalized children of Nepal with nutritious food, clean water, quality education and most importantly a loving, secure family and home. It is not only our aim to afford these children the bare essentials, but also to teach them about morality and instill in them a sense of community and respect for their fellow human beings. We will also provide them with a safe play environment where they can have fun, learn and develop the skill of social interaction. 1. Message from the President:

I am pleased to inform you that we have publishing this electronic (pdf format) version of our Rainbow Newsletter. This Newsletter describes all the news from Rainbow Children Home and Rainbow Handicraft Project. First of all I am happy to bringing out this another issue of our Newsletter (Vol.- 4, No. 2, October, 2013) I would like to Thank to all of you for helping this Rainbow Children Home and Rainbow Handicraft Project in many ways. Big Thanks to you all for your regular help, support, donation and care to us directly and indirectly. This e-Newsletter is a kind souvenir with lots of updated information of Rainbow Children Home and Handicraft.

We have already separated a different home for the boys and girls. Now we have separated Rainbow Children home and Rainbow Handicraft Project in two different buildings. Also with the help of CIDEN we have built a new building for handicraft works including workshop, raw materials store, show-room and stock room. At the same time we have built a separate study room for the children. We are making a new Library room and an office room, the building in under construction. Now we have diet schedule for the children good health. We are providing meat, egg, and fruit once in a week and enough vegetables every day to children meal. We are taking children to different places for their fun and for knowledge of many new things. Now we have a cow at RCH home. Our future plan is to sell more bags to the many countries. We only need your kind help, support, suggestions and comments. We extend our sincere thanks to Philip Von Foundation, Fritz and Sybil von Phillip, Germany. We feel pleasure to express our deep sense of gratitude to Svein and Karin Dahle and all the Norwegian friends. We would extend our warm thanks to Rosemary-Tony, Mardi and Australian friends. This work would not have been completed without the co-operation with Rocio, Jose and CIDEN organization from Spain, so we are grateful to Rocio, Rose and CIDEN. Rainbow Handicraft Project is growing every day. We are producing many different kinds of bags and selling inside and out of Nepal. As you know that we are selling bags to Australia, USA and some European countries like UK, Switzerland, Holland, Hong Kong, Spain etc and the response from the buyer’s is very nice. Although, we are always searching for the order for the bags.

New Member @ RCH

1. Name: Asha Pariyar

Age: 8 years

In the month of August, Government of Nepal and some

other NOG monitoring child labour around Pokhara

Municipality. We found a girl child of about 8 years of

old, who is working in the pig farm. Her work is to give food for the pigs look after the

pigs. Her name is Asha Priyar. According to the people from that site, her father already

death. Her mother re-married with someone and went with that person. The pig farm

owner found this child and include in his business as worker. We have seen the pig farm

and the girl (Asha) there is not any hygienic measures for the health. The farm is very

dirty and the girl is working in the critical situation. We want to bring Asha to RCH for

her health life and we want to give her education and want to make her a good citizen. If

some one kind people is ready to bear her expenses like food, clothes, education and

other basic need we are ready to bring her to RCH.

So we would like to request you if you can Help her to bring? Or if you help to spread

this information to your family, relatives and friends then some one kind hearted person

can be found very soon and we can rescue this child.

2. Name: Ayush Date of Birth: April, 2009 we have a new child, His name is Ayush Sapkota, he is only 3 years of old. Ayush and his mother are staying here with us since June, 2012. Ayush father left his mother and him when he was only 2 months of age. So Ayush and his mother being abandoned since long back. She went to ask work (job) with many people and organization, due to this small child (Ayush) no one is interested to offer her job. So they are having lost of suffering, finally they came to Rainbow children home and I put them both in RCH. Ayush mother works in RCH and Ayush also starting schooling. Now both the son and mother are happily living in Rainbow Children Home.

3. Name : Bipin B.K.

Age: 5 years

Bipin B.K. is a younger brother of Sushmita and Niruta, who

were already in RCH since long back. When his sisters are in

RCH he was with his mother and he was so small that time so he

was staying with his mother. Now he became 5 years of old. His

age for start schooling so his poor and sick mother came again

with us for asking his support. His mother requesting for his

education support. RCH took admission him to the school but we

do not have supporter for him. He comes to RCH in the morning

at 7:00 am and study together with other RCH kids, eat together

and goes to school together with RCH kids. Come back to RCH

after finish school with RCH kids and complete home work,

have food and go back to home at 6:00 pm. We bring him with his mother. He is doing

well in his school.

4. Name: Anup B.K. (3 years)

5. Name: Sujan B.K. (5 Years)

Anup joined with us in September, 2013.

Anup is 3 years old and his brother Sujan

B.K. is 5 years old. They both has disease by

birth, and the due to the disease their skin is

very white, they both can not see the in the

day sun light. Anup can not see and can not

open his eyes in the sun light area. His one

eye also smaller then the other. Their father

was missing since long back, no body knows

where he has gone. It is about 5 years there is

no any contact with anybody. Their mother

was sick, she can not taking care of her

children, so brought to Rainbow Children

home for receiving support. Their situation is

so critical and we decided to support them. So

now we are sending both the brothers to the

school. Small one can not go to the school

alone because he can not see in the day light.

We need sponsor for these two brothers. They

need really help and supporting due to their

disease.

6. Name : Deb Bahadur Gurung

Age : 8 years

Deb entered this home in April, 2013. The

Government of Nepal, Social Welfare

Department has sent him to Rainbow Children

for his protection and living. He was found

alone in some part of Nepal, and the Social

welfare department was searching for his

living, and found Rainbow Children Home.

Then they brought him to Rainbow Children

Home and we are taking care of him.

According to the Social Welfare people his

mother was left him and gone with another

man. His father was still unknown. And he is

only 8 years old and he does not know his mother and father and other relatives. Till date

no one came to visit her from his relative’s side. We also do not know about his relatives

and far relatives.

Now he is very happy in RCH home, he has lots of friends in RCH. He is very straight

forward boy. He is studying in Class Two and doing well in his study.

We are searching for his sponsorship.

7. Name: Mahesh Bohora

Age: 9 years

Address: Bajura

Mahesh became member of this Rainbow

Children home from today (5th

September, 2013).

We got information from the Nepal Government

that one child became homeless and no one came

to ask about him since long back. District

Children Welfare and CWIN (for Children with Children) requested to Rainbow Children

Home for rescue this child. So they handover this rescued child (Mahesh) to RCH and

now he is with us at Rainbow Children Home. According to CWIN his home is in very

remote place called Bajura, and his mother was death already. His father went to Arabian

country since long back but still he did not back home. After his mother death he was

brought to Pokhara from his neighbourhood brother. Now his neighbour brother left him

and found abandoned and rescued by District Children Welfare and CWIN. Now he is

happy being at RCH home, we will going to admit him in a school very soon.

And we are looking for a sponsor for this boy.

8. Name: Sunil B.K.

Age: 10 years

Sunil B.K. aged 10 years came to Rabinwo

children home first time with other two

children who were supported by RCH through

Home Support Program. He came to Pokhara

with his neighbour friend and his friend left

him alone. He does not have home and place

to stay. He saw two boys Sujan BK and Anup

BK coming to RCH and he came to RCH with them . He went with the two boys (Sujan

and Anup) and he stay with them. He said he wanted to study and he does not want to go

for working as a child labour. But he does not have his home. According to him, his

father was death when he was a child, and his mother left him alone and went with a man

and got married. He does not know where his mother is now. There is no contact with his

mother since two years. After hearing about his life story I agreed to join him in a school,

and then he became so much happy. Now he is going to school and his education found

very well. And he stays with the two boys.

9. Name : Sushil Ranabhat

Date of Birth : 15 June, 2008

Sushil Ranabhat joined RCH in April, 2013. He came along with

his grand mother. Women about 50 year old age came with a

small child for asking job at RCH. She has no income resources

for up-bringing and procreation to Sushil. Her son (Sushil’s

father) is not a normal, he has mental disease and Sushil’s

mother is busy with taking care of her abnormal husband. So,

there is not study environment and financial sources for sending

him to school. So his grand mother brought him to the city area.

She tough that she will find a job and looking after her grand

son. So she was searching for job and asking for job with many

people and organization. Some people from the community

suggested her to visit RCH for getting help and support. Then,

his grand mother came to visit me with his grand son, and

request for job. After hearing her grief story of her family, I

decided to put Sushil and his grand mother at RCH. His grand mother will looking after

the other children and looking after the vegetable garden. And we are sending Sushil to

the school and now he is studying well.

Name : Samjhana Gurung

Age: 7 years

In the month of September, 2013 we

have informed from one social worker

that one boy and a girl were abandoned

in the Stupa and are in critical situation.

I went to visit that place where the social

worker is calling me. I have seen a death

boy of about 35 year of women lying in

the flower and seen few people around

them and I have seen one boy about age 5and a girl about 7 years. The boy and girl do

not know about what was going there, they even do not understanding the situation. On

that day, their relatives and other few people managed their women’s death body, and I

brought Samjhana to RCH with me. She is around 7 years old. According to their far

relatives her father was dead one year back. Both the husband and wife were death

because of HIV/AIDS disease. Samjhan has one more brother who is almost 5 years of

old. It is suspected that his brother has also HIV/AIDS, but we are not sure.

When I was visited that place, I have

seen a young women about 35 years

of age lying in the ground and found

that she was death just few hours

ago. Some people are talking about

the children and their care. No one is

ready to pick up the children for care

and supporting. Her father and

mother both have no house and no

land. So I brought Samjhana to RCH

but I did not bring his brother.

Because people have suspected HIV

infected to him. If I brought him I have no isolation and separate place to put him for

care. Now the Stupa is taking care of him. They will bring him to the hospital and do the

needful. I brought Samjhana and she is asking me to bring his brother as well I took

Samjhana to the hospital and checked blood and found she is not HIV infected. W are so

happy to hear her blood report. I will try my best to help and support to his brother as

well in many ways. Now Samjhana also goes to the school with other friends at RCH.

She is happy being with us.

New Projects

We have now 5 projects in

our hand. The first one is

Cow project, Second is

Organic Vegetables

project, Three is Training

Centre, Four is Tourist

office and the Five is RCH

Guest House.

No. 1, 2, 3, & 4 cow and

vegetable project is very

starting already. Training center is we have just inaugurated the training

hall, and training was held recently. RCH Guest House is under construction.

We will put volunteers in this RCH guest house.

Cow Farming (Livestock) & Organic Vegetable Project

Recently we have launched a

Cow farming project. The main

aim of this project is to provide

enough milk and vegetables for

the children. We have one cow

with her calf. The cow gives 6

liter mils in the morning and 6

liters in the evening now. All the

children are very much happy to

get milk in the evening and morning.

At the same time we are arranging for growing organic vegetable in the

same land rear to the cow house. We have rented a big land for this cow

and vegetable project. This two project cow (livestock) and vegetables are

inter-related with each other. Cow gives milk and she gives cow shed and

this cow shed is the best fertilizer for the green and organic vegetable. At

the same time, cow need green grass and vegetables garden will have lots

of greenery items which can be good food for the cow. So cow and

vegetable farming will both gives good diet for the children.

Education Progress

Children from RCH are amazing, they are always happy and energetic. In

the study field all the children are doing good work. Most of the children

scored outstanding marks and every year and every exam all the children

promoted for the next class.

Children school result published

Children school result has been published, National

Inventive Higher Secondary Boarding school result

has been published, and almost all our children did

very good result. I would like to thank you so much

for your great help and supporting for these

wonderful children for the studies, and for their

great future.

IRON Gate Exam

We the Rainbow Children Home Nepal family are so much happy to inform you that our

child name "Kamal Khanal" has success in his IRON GATE exam, he scored first

division. In Nepal one of the most important exams is School Leaving Certificate (SLC).

This exam held at the same time all over Nepal and the result published at the same day

for all over Nepal. The child who passes this exam allowed to go for higher studies and

can choose different subjects. After these exams, college life will be started who passed

the exam. So, Kamal also did wonderful job with remarkable marks, and he started his

college life. Kamal is the first child for SLC exam and our first boy did very good result.

Now he is a college student. He has selected a Business (Management) subject, his aim is

to become a best entrepreneurship. And he wanted to be a best manager in any field of

work. We have celebrated the happiness moment and shared with all the children and

staffs of RCH. We honored him in front of all the children and staff of RCH and showed

them that if someone does good will be honored. And we also explain that the whole

society and the Nation will honored for the good people.

Library Day Celebration

On 31st of August, we were

invited for in the 6th Library Day

celebration in Pokhara. The

program was in a Library (Sahid

Smriti Library) in town. The

organizer also requested us for the

cultural show by our children. It is

a National program regularly

celebrating in 15 of Bhadra in

Nepali Calender. It is on 31s of August in 2013. We went there by taxi at

11:00 am, and the program was about to starting, The 6th Library Day

organizing committee announced for starting the program by the welcome

song/dance by Rainbow Children Home kids. Then Bipana, Asmita,

Bhumika, Sanju, Samjhana and Anita performed cultural dance in front of

the huge audience. The program was running with different activities like

speech about value of Library, honored the people who served several years

for the Library services and honored for the best library in Pokhara. Our

small children also performed dance in the same program and all the people

were inspired from the dance performed by our small children, age from 3 to

6 years of old. Rainbow Children Home Nepal also honored from the 6th

Library Day organizing committee and President Goma Dhakal received the

honored by the Chief Guest (District Education Officer). Our Secretary Mr.

Khim Bahadur Lamichhane also a member of the 6th Library Day

organizing committee. The Program was more effected and successful and

our children added more beauty to this program by their wonderful cultural

show. This kind of activities and program will develop Study habit and study

culture to the people and the children,

Birthday Ceremony and Celebrations

We have celebrated birthday of each child at RCH. We are celebrating birthday once in a month for that particular children who were born in that particular month. Likewise we have celebrated birthday of Sanju Pariyar, Bikash B.K., Sushil Ranabhat and Rabina Magar in June. And in July we have celebrated birthday of Ashish, Ashmita (Twins), Sagar, Indrani and Lakchin. As previous birthday ceremonies we brought a big cake, and many candies,

candles, flowers and birthday gifts for the birthday boy and girl. With the

Loud song of "HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAY TO YOU" from the other children for

each person, who was receiving the gift and flower. Finally all the children

stand up and singing Happy Birthday to

you song and all the birthday boy and girl

together cut the cake. It is always

wonderful moments at RCH, when

birthday parties happened. Birthday boy

and girls always became ready from the

morning, and other children so happy that

we will get cake and the candies for them. And singing and dancing

program in the end.

Children Park Visit

On 16th of July, 2013 we

organized a visit to a children

park. All the children already

excited for this visit. The

children park name is FUN PARK,

all the children became so much

happy to be there at the fun

park. There are so many playing

things and other children entertainment things inside this park like,

swimming pool, and other many play things like sea saw, swing and slider, a

small train, a round swing and

more games. All the children

participated in many games in

the fun park. All the children

were had lots of fun. Some

sponsors, volunteers and staff

also went with the children for

taking care of the children.

Oral Health Camp at Rainbow Children Home Nepal

We have organized Oral Health Camp at Rainbow Children Home with the

help of Phillip Von International Foundation, and all the children and staff

checked their teeth in the same dental camp. Most of the children have

good teeth, and some of them have cavities and other minor problem.

Dentist and Dental Hygienist did all the check up and did needful treatment

that has required. We regularly organized Dental Camp in Rainbow Children

home for our children dental care.

Children Home Visit In month of July, 2013 Deepak and

Buddhi went to visit Buddhi’s home.

They visited Buddhi’s family and also

build a toilet for their family. Buddhi and

Bibek are brothers. Buddhi has more

brothers and sisters, in total Buddhi has 5

brothers and 2 sisters. Buddhi’s home is

in a very remote place. It will take 8

hours walking after the bus station. Now

Buddhi became a big boy so he can go

home alone. But in their village there is

not schools, hospitals and other essential

things, so the life will be very difficult in

that village.

Ropai (MUD) Festival at Pokhara

We have celebrated Ropai (Paddy Cultivation) festival at Pokhara, it is called Muddy festival, and Paddy festival. In the month of June, every year we are celebrating this festival. Nepal is also an agricultural base country so this Paddy (Rice) Cultivation festival is very important to the farmers. It is also called "ASHAD PANDRA" in Nepal. This kind of festival celebrating all over Nepal, but in Kathmand, Bhaktapur and Pokhara especially in the touristic places, this festival celebrating is different way. This festival organized by Nepal Tourism Board, Pokhara, Chamber and Commerce Association and Pokhara Tourism Council and many more individual and NGO and INGO were supported for this program. There were

several activities like OX riding completion, Paddy plantation competition in the muddy field also Running 100 meter and 200 meters, girls & boys competition were held. We are happy to inform you that our child SANJU PARIYAR got the first prize in girls running in 100 meter. And our volunteers were participated in the different activities. Most of the people were covered by the mud. It was really a wonderful festival for all of us.

International Day against Drug Abuse day program at Pokhara

We the RCH family participated in the “International Day against Drug

Abuse Day Program” on 26th June, 2013, here in Pokhara. We the staff and

children together participated in this awareness program about drug

addiction and

drug abuse on

the occasion of

31st

International

Day against

Drug Abuse.

There were

more than 20

different

organization and

Association

including Rainbow Children home participating in this raising awareness

program of drug abuse and addiction. We did 5 KM walk (rally) with holding

awareness slogan and posters in our hand, distributing the pumplate and

brochure to the young people. And finally we did a big meeting at Lakeside

and giving speech from different kinds of people from different field. They

were talked about how the life ruins by the drug and how to come back

from addiction. It was really effective program for the young generation.

A Scout Group visited to Rainbow Home

were sharing their experiences of

the scout in UK and our children

also informing them about our

scout work. The group also trained

some useful tools and techniques of

Scouting for the children.

1st Training on Beads Handicraft

After inauguration our training centre, we had organized a training of Beads

Handicrafts in the clothes. This was the first training in the new training centre.

This training was designed only for girls’ age between 16 to 20. Our big girl

children also participated in that training and learn to Beads handicraft and

making wonderful handworks in the white clothes. In the future onwards, we will

organize many different training programs for their practical life. Our aim of the

training centre is to teach them vocational training. We will give priority for the

practical work and they will find work (job) and they can be independent

themselves.

Sacred Threat (JANAI POORNIMA) Festival

Recently we have celebrated a National Festival, It's called JANAI POORNIMA (Sacred Threat) Festival. This festival celebrating every August Month in a year. This year this festival was on 21st of August, 2013. This festival is a starting festival for the year 2070 BS (Nepali

Calendar). In this festival, Hindu people exchange their sacred thread, they wear new one. And religious man gives sacred thread to all the people, and tied the same thread in their right hand. It is so interesting festival. We have celebrated this festival in RCH. All the children put one new clothes, and came to the RCH yard. President Goma gave them TIKA and Kamal helping for giving sacred thread to the children. Brahmin Cast people are the high cast according to the Hindu cast hierarchy system. Brahmin people are only allowed to give sacred thread to others, so Kamal Khanal is Brahmin so he gave sacred thread to all the children. In this festival the leader of the

house gives TIKA, fruit and gives money also. This is a cultural system that giving TIKA and money with flower to the children from the headman of the

household. This festival also indicated brother and sister relation. It makes brother and sister

relationship more strong and happiness. This is a holy festival. In this festival we must eat NINE different beans (Pea) of food, this special food for this festival, and called "Quati" In RCH, children having delicious and good food in the lunch. And they perform cultural show, children dancing and singing in the RCH Yard, In the evening also having delicious food and again dancing and singing. All the children became so much happy to got opportunity to

celebrate Janai Poornima at RCH. For your kind information, this is the starting festival in Nepal, After one month there will be another festival called "Women's Festival" then after there will be big Festival Called "Dashain" after one month of Dashina festival, there will be another big Festival, which is called Festival of Light.

Children Home Conference

On 21st September,

2013 in Kathmandu

there was a First

National Conference of

Children Homes in

Nepal. This is a historic

even held in Nepal. All

the children home

management members

were participated in

this program from all

over Nepal. In Pokhara

there are 60 children homes. Our President Goma Dhakal also selected as a

representative from Pokhara. It is found that 700 children homes are in

Nepal, and total 15,000 orphan children are living in children homes in

Nepal. In Pokhara there are 1500 orphan children are living in the children

home. Participants were the children home proprietors, owners, manger

and directors. All the participants were sharing their problems in children

home and problems of the orphans. We were discussed about how to

increase facilities for the children who are in living the orphanage. This kid

of conference was first time held in Nepal and the participates were

promised to have same kind of meeting and conference every year. On the

one hand our Government is not supporting to the children homes, and on

the other hand every day orphan and needy children are increasing in the

society. Our Government also brought a new policy. Every children home

should put 5% deposit in fixed account in the bank of total expenditure.

This policy of 5% fixed deposit in the bank is for the children emergency

cases. For example if some children have accident, if new children arrived

and no sponsor found, if some children became sick etc. This 5% can be use

by the children home but in the emergency case only.

Children Festival (Celebrating Children Day)

Recently here in

Pokhara a big

was organized.

Club Forum, Kaski Steward: Pokhara Chamber of Commerce Pokhara and

District Child Welfare Board, Collaborator: UNICEF, Leknath Municipality

and District Development Committee. This is a National program of the

children activities first time held in Pokhara from 10 September to 14

September, 2013. There were invited lots of individual and organization

who are working for the children. One of our child Deepak is also a member

of District Child Club Forum and his club also of the organizer. So Deepak

played a special role in this program. All of our children were participated in

this program, likewise many children from different parts of Nepal were

participated. Lots of games, quiz contest, Talent show, Dancing, Sing and

many more activities were arranged in this program. In lots of activities our

children were participated. This program also telecast from the National

Television channel. A children rally was organized and the rally came from

different parts of Pokhara. Children were had fun and received lots of new

experiences from this children festival. This kind of program will help to the

children for their career building and building confidence level. According

to the organizers this is first time and every year this kind of festival will be

organized. So every year children will have a special day for having fun and

lots of new experiences

Women Festival: TEEJ

We had

celebrated one big

Nepal festival,

called Teej, which

is also called

women festival.

This festival is

especially for the

women and girls.

Every year this

festival

celebrating in September (Bhadra, in Nepali Callander). Nowadays this

festival celebrating many more days with different kinds of activities like

dancing, singing, get together, party ect but only girls and women are

allowed to participated in this festival. Boy and the man will be helping

them for their festival. Like every year this year also we have celebrated

this women festival on 4th of September at RCH. We have invited our

members and other community leaders for participation. There was a big

festival at RCH. Delicious food was cooked, women were dancing all the

day. Our children also dancing and singing all the day. The Teej party was

started from 9: am and ended at 6:00 pm. During this time, children

enjoyed a lot. Eating, dancing and singing all the day, Other invited guest

and our general members were also had lots of fun with dancing with

children.

Also, our children went to visit and participated in the other Teej program

as well. In our community Teej was celebrated with many kinds of

attractive program. In many places there was Teej song competition, in two

places our girls are participated and in one place they got third price. In

many places around Pokhara there was Volley Ball, Football, Tor of War,

Teej Song and more competition. We are so happy that our children were

able to receive 3rd place in one competition. On 7th of September there

was another party for the kids, this party was only for our children, and it

was rice pudding party at RCH. All the children became very happy to get

this rice pudding party. I have attached few photos of the Teej party in

different places of Pokhara and our children were participated.
