Cameron Hospital Open House Nov. 15

LITTLE RIVERTM

Bastrop Affiliation - continued from Page 1

The public Open House for the new, completely remodeled Little River Healthcare - Cameron

Hospital is finally scheduled! The event was planned back in early February

2014, but due to an extended, exhausting delay in receiving its Medicare licenses, the Cameron Hospi-tal had to postpone its Open House.

But believe us when we say: the wait is worth it.The festivities begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday morn-

ing, Nov. 15. Most of the festivities will take place on the back-

side (west) of the hospital. In the Education Room, with entrance from the back of the hospital, you’ll find several free health services, including Blood Pressure testing, Blood Sugar testing, Flu Shots (adults only), Cholesteral testing, Pharmaceutical information, snacks, and a “Meet the Doctor” booth, where a few of the Temple-based Little River doctors there to introduce themselves to the Cameron com-munity. Several Little River Healthcare displays will be found in the Education room as well.

Just outside the Education room, on the back park-ing lot of the hospital, will be TONS of fun stuff for

the kids to check out, including a fire truck and Cameron Fire Dept. personnel on display, a helicopter for folks to sit in (no rides available), and the Camer-on Police Dept. is planning on bringing their “Identi-kid” fin-ger-printing fun station as well.

The entire public from all over Central Texas is definitely invited. There will be self-guided tours through most of the new hospital, featuring en-larged photos of what the hospital used to look like.

Little River Healthcare acquired the hospital in July

2013 following its unhealthy run as Central Texas Hospital, operated by indicted Dr. Tariq Mahmood.

Little River Healthcare has spent more than $1.5 million on renovations, recontstructing, and updat-ing the facility.

assistants, and one nurse practitioner from FHCOB are a few faces familiar to some Little River folks.

Dr. Ron Cox, the allergist/immunologist that sees patients at LR’s Rockdale Medical Clinic, primarily sees patients at the FHCOB.

Dr. Clyde Smith, general surgeon, sees patients at Little River Healthcare’s Rockdale Family Care Clinic – Suite C on a weekly basis, as he does at the FHCOB.

Dr. Larry Vocal startedFHCOB with current prac-tice CEO Johnny Burns 19 years ago. Dr. Vocal has become a staple in the Bastrop community, similar to Dr. John Weed’s involvement in Rockdale.

Quickly emerging as a local favorite, family medi-cine Dr. Pompeyo Chavez won the “Best of Bastrop County” award for “Best Physician” in 2013.

In the last 18 months, FHCOB has added a few physicians to their rotation schedule, including Dr. Juan Carlos Ortega (family medicine), Dr. Estela Mota (family medicine), and Dr. Brian Sullivan (orthopedics).

Please join us in welcoming this fantastic group of individuals to the Little River Healthcare family!

Little River earns “Employers for Education Excellence” RecognitionLittle River Healthcare earned a Broze Award

from Texas’ State Board of Education for its work as an “Employer for Education Excellence”.

Here is the short press release the Texas Educa-tion Agency published on behalf of the State Board of Education:

Recognized with a Bronze Award is Little River Healthcare, a partner with the Rockdale ISD in Rockdale. Since joining in partnership with the district, the Little River Healthcare and its staff have worked consistently to implement the Little River Healthcare School Based Clinics. In the beginning, the clinics served district staff only. After providing information to parents and gaining parental consent, the clinics began serving students

with basic healthcare needs. One of the services the clinic provides are free school physicals, including echo cardiograms for all student athletes. The clinic and its staff are also valuable supporters of the district’s band and athletic booster clubs, and the school health advisory council.

The EEE award was established in 2007 by the Texas Legislature to honor Texas employers who encourage and support staff participation and voluntarism in the public schools.

Any Texas employer is eligible to win the award, including private companies, nonprofit organiza-tions, and state, local, federal and educational en-tities. Recognized businesses receive a plaque and the EEE designation is recognized for three years.

The Nurse’s Station at the Cameron Hospital now. It used to look like, well, not a nurse’s station.

Halloween Fun Friday!Tomorrow, Oct. 31, is HALLOWEEN! Little River Healthcare loves celebrating this spooky

holiday with costumes and decorating doors! Don’t forget to post photos of you and your dressed up colleagues on any of the LR Facebook pages!

The Door Decoration Contest has brought in 16 participants who posted photos of their decorated department doors to any Little River Healthcare Face-book page. We’ve found unbiased judges without pri-or knowledge of which department decorated which door. The winning department will be announced on Halloween at noon via email. They’ll receive a pizza party on a later date.

Have a blast on Friday and enjoy the weekend!
