Community Resources

Child Abuse and Child Protection Services

Listen to our Radio Azad show with Lynne McLean, Chief Executive Officer of the CollinCounty Children's Advocacy Center, who spoke about the detrimental effects of child

abuse and the resources available to the community. Click here to listen.

90% of children who face abuse or neglect are abused by a caregiver or someone theyknow, not a stranger (http://bit.ly/1x2tePG).Abuse can be physical, emotional or sexual. This often leaves the victim sufferingwith lifelong effects such as substance abuse or interpersonaldifficulties, among many others (http://bit.ly/1xWEaMY).In Collin County over 4500 cases of abuse and neglect were reported in 2013. Manyabuse and neglect cases go unreported!

It is vital that parents need to be aware of changes in their children's behavior such assudden fear of a certain individual, which is a warning sign that there may be suspectedabuse. To report suspected abuse call 1-800-252-5400 or 911.

Texas Muslim Women's Foundation works with agencies such as the Collin CountyChildren's Advocacy Center and Child Protective Services (CPS) to keep children safe. Through counseling, legal support, advocacy and careful case management, we support thewell-being of children and families.

Our work with CPS has shown us the following:

CPS acts in the best interest children and works to ensure their safetyCPS offers parenting resources and classes for families seeking assistanceCPS only removes children when it is necessary to protect them from abuse orneglect. If children are removed from their home, it is important for parents to cooperate withCPS to find the best solution and course of action. When it is established that thehome is safe for children, it is possible for custody to be restored.
