Beat Managers Update

Dear All…

It’s almost December and the run up to the festive period begins here! Officers will be out on foot in the major shopping areas of Runcorn making sure everyone is safe as part of our yearly ‘Blue Christmas’ campaign, if you see us out and about make sure you say hello! Officers, local PCSO’s and officers from the Special Con-stabulary will be joining the effort, after all, the Sergeants did promise mince pies!

Talking of Christmas, shortly residents will be getting into the festive spirit, and beginning to switch on their Christmas lights.

Whilst our streets are going to be lit up like Christmas trees, our homes may not. Now that the clocks have gone back an hour, many of us are leaving and arriving home from work in the dark. This means that our homes are often left in darkness, luring op-portunistic thieves to see what goodies we have inside. Here are some top tip’s to avoid nasty visitors to your home…

•Have your lights on timer switches, ensuring lights come on as the dark nights draw in.

•Keep keys away from letter boxes to stop burglars ‘fishing’ for them and letting themselves into the property.

•Make sure doors and windows are shut and locked, even when you’re at home.

•Don’t leave valuables on display. Remember ‘out of sight, out of mind’.

Urgent appeal following PCSO assault in Runcorn

Officers from Cheshire Police are appealing for information from the public after a Police Community Sup-

port Officer (PSCO) was viciously assaulted in Runcorn.

At approximately 5.10pm today, Thursday 23 November, the PCSO was on routine patrol in Palacefields

area when he was approached by a man wearing dark clothing who alerted him to an incident in a wood-

ed area between Sparrowhawk Close and Cunliffe Close, Palacefields.

The officer went into wood and became aware of a group of three men who appeared to be fighting. As

the officer walked towards the group he was suddenly attacked from behind by an unknown man who

attempted to stab him in the face with a knife.

Thankfully, the officer was able to fight off his attacker and all of the men then fled the scene in the direc-

tion of Sparrowhawk Close. The officer has since been taken to Halton District General Hospital where he

is receiving for treatment for his injuries.

The attacker, along with the men involved in the fight, are all described as being white men wearing dark

clothing. One of the suspects was also described as wearing a grey tracksuit.

Detective Inspector Clare Coleman said: “This was a totally unprovoked attack on a Police Community

Support Officer who was trying to protect our local community.

“The actions of his attacker are simply despicable and I would urge the local community to come together

so that person responsible can be brought to justice.

“While the officer was able to fend off his attacker, he has sustained a number of superficial wounds to

his hands and understandably he has also been left extremely shaken as a result of his ordeal.

“I would urge anyone with any information in relation to this incident, no matter how small, to contact

the team here at Runcorn.”

Crime Updates - November 2017

At the time of writing (26/09/2017) Cheshire police have responded and attended to 172 incidents within

your area in November and carried out 9 arrests - these incidents varied in seriousness however include

domestic incidents, assaults, burglaries, thefts, Anti-social behaviour , concern for welfare, missing per-

sons, drug offences, Sexual offences, Vehicle crime and even loose horses! If you would like to discuss

anything face to face or raise any concerns you can attend the police Community first meetings the next

one is advertised on the front of this newsletter.

Drug arrests - Newquay Close, Brookvale

On 15/11/2017 local PCSO’s witnessed a known male smoking cannabis on STOCKHAM LANE, Runcorn.

The local beat officer attended at the males home address the following day to effect an arrest, however

the male’s mother verbally and physically tried to stop the officer, in addition to her son being arrested

her actions led to her arrest for obstruct police. A search of the address followed and police recovered a

substantial amount of cannabis , cash and other drug paraphernalia. Following this search a third male

was arrested at the address on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis. Police continue to

investigate this incident and as well as formal criminal charges the family may now face eviction from

their address via their social landlord.

Bonfire Night - Low Levels of Anti-Social Behaviour

We are pleased to report that on Bonfire night levels of anti-social behaviour across Brookvale,

Murdishaw & Norton were extremely low, officers, PCSO’s and special Constables were out and about all

night on the area ensuring people stayed safe throughout this period as part of ‘Op Treacle’.

Male arrested - Disqualified Driving / Fail to stop

On the 18/11/2017 Officers attempted to stop a vehicle on NORTHWICH ROAD, this vehicle made off at

speed before colliding into a nearby wall, the officers arrested the male who was later found to be a dis-

qualified driver, the male has now been charged with several driving offences (No Licence, No Insurance)

including the disqualified driving and fail to stop offences, he is due to appear at court shortly.

Crime Updates - November Continued...

PCSO’s caught male Smoking Cannabis in street

On 10/11/2017 local PCSO’s found a male smoking cannabis on MARINER CLOSE, Murdishaw, due to be-

ing of previous good character the male was invited into the police station for a formal interview where

he admitted the offences of possession of cannabis, the male fully admitted the offence to the investi-

gating officer and has now been referred to a drug action team for help and support—The next time he is

caught however will result in a day out to court! He has been warned!

Increase in Burglaries -Norton North

Between the 01/11/20/17 & 07/11/2017 there were three burglaries committed in the Norton North area

(Murdishaw & Norton), although police do not believe the incidents to be linked these incidents highlight

the need for residents to be vigilant—especially on the lead up to the festive period, please report any

suspicious behaviour to police by either calling 101 or 999 in an emergency.

Attempt Burglary -Padstow Square, Brookvale

On the 18/11/2017 the local Chip Shop at PADSTOW SQUARE, Brookvale was targeted by unknown

offenders the went to the back of the shop and attempted to force open the rear door of the building,

however the attempt failed and the offender fled the scene, Was you in the area at the time? Can you

any information you may have. The crime reference number is CC17372177.

Shed Broken into –Motorbike stolen

On the 18/11/2017 a shed was broken into at SENNEN CLOSE, the offenders approach the shed located at

the rear of the victims garden and force entry, the bike is then taken out of the shed and walked a short

distance away where the vehicle is then set alight resulting in a complete write off of the bike. This inci-

dent is still under investigation by officers at Runcorn, if you have any information please call 101 or con-

Runcorn Police Station welcomes new Beat Sergeants

Runcorn Police Station have welcomed new Beat Sergeants, these officers are well experienced and will

be supervising the Beat Team on a number of areas in Runcorn including, Brookvale (Norton South) and

Murdishaw & Norton (Norton North), Below please see below generic uncomfortable photo pose and a

small write up about themselves! Welcome Sergeants!

I am the new Sergeant

for Brookvale area and wanted to introduce myself. I

joined Greater Manchester Police in 2009 and was posted

to Trafford division. I then moved to a detective role

where I investigated sexual offences and then moved to a

strategic role in Child Sexual Exploitation. I moved to

Cheshire Constabulary in February this year and I am look-

ing forward to tackling the issues that matter to you in

your area.

I am the new Sergeant for The Murdishaw & Norton ar-

ea. I have been a Police officer in Cheshire for over 25

years covering a wide variety of roles including working

within public protection, force operations and, for over

15 years, part of our firearms response team.

I have been a Sergeant for 5 years, most recently re-

sponsible for our voluntary sector which includes Police

cadets and the Special Constabulary.

I’ve worked in the Runcorn area a number of times over

the years and I know many of the excellent officers and

PCSO’s who work on this LPU (Local Policing Unit).

Knowing the area and the staff made it an easy decision to apply for the position when

the beat Sergeants role was advertised on our force intranet.

I was delighted to be successful in being offered the post and look forward to meeting

the residents and communities across the LPU.

Winter Driving, Vehicle Crime & Safety

With winter seemingly here to stay for a while let’s remind you of some tips in rela-tion to car safety.

Are your tyres over the legal limit of 1.6mm? – Why? – Slippery roads are hard to drive on at the best of times but you need at the very least that 1.6mm to have any chance of grip on the road. Less than 1.6mm is illegal and you could be on the receiving end of points and a fine.

Is your washer bottle full? – Why? – At this time in the year the roads are wet and full of grit, salt and muck. Seeing out of the windscreen can prove difficult, however, with your washer bottle full it will be easy to clean. An empty washer bottle could also see you being fined.

Do you have a ‘just in case’ kit in the boot? – Why? – This is just a preference and not law but have you heard about the time the motorway was shut in the snow stranding 100s of motorists? Blankets, snacks and wa-ter would be helpful in this instance until help arrived.

Last but not least don’t let our less than honest members of the public have an early Christmas present in the form of your car. If the engine is running whilst you are de-frosting it then don’t leave it. They are quick on their feet and will be happily driving away before you know it. If the car is on the road with the engine running then it needs to have a licensed driver with it. Don’t commit an offence of ‘quitting’ (look it up it is real).
