NOVEMBER SCHOOL OF THE MONTH LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY
The UNICEF Campus Club at Louisiana State
University is the November school of the
month!
UNICEF at LSU has been actively involved
with campaigns such as Trick-or-Treat for
UNICEF, the Tap Project. They have already
raised $5027 so far through their Trick-or-
Treat for UNICEF activities! They worked
with two schools in the area and had them
participate in trick-or-treating. They
collaborated with the school’s Key Club and
did educational programs about UNICEF in
each of the classrooms. They also threw a
costume pizza party for the kids!
The club has also done local service projects
with BREC and the East Baton Rouge Parish
School System. They have been featured in the
Daily Reveille and were recently featured as
the spotlight student organization on the LSU
Campus Life website. Kudos to them for their
amazing work! More information about the
club can be found at their facebook page -

Before parts of southern Pakistan
had recovered from the scars of the
disaster caused by the 2010 floods,
the region was hit again in
September 2011 by devastating
flooding. This new emergency has
turned the lives of millions of
people upside down. The floods
have affected 5.4 million people,
almost 2.7 million of these are
children.
UNICEF is scaling up efforts in
flood-affected areas to save these
children’s lives. They are providing
tanker trucks delivering thousands
of liters of clean water each day;
vaccinating tens of thousands of
children against measles and polio;
and providing insecticide-treated
bed nets to protect children from
mosquitoes.
UNICEF has also established
Temporary Learning Centers (TLCs)
that give thousands of children
access to a quality education despite
FLOODING IN PAKISTAN
UNICEF partnered with the ING New York City
Marathon to fundraise on behalf of the world's
children and provide the life-saving care that is
needed. Team UNICEF had 67 runners from all over
the world with 6 different countries represented (US,
France, Australia, Czech Republic, Canada, and UAE)
all running toward the day when zero children die
from preventable causes.
This was a great opportunity for campus leaders to
see how other volunteers are supporting the cause.

their devastating circumstances. Ms.
Shireen, a teacher at one of the TLCs,
said, “The learning and recreational
material provided by UNICEF is
engaging. It is easy for me to teach with
the help of this material as children get
more involved.” Already having lost so
much to the floods, UNICEF is working
to ensure that these children receive
uninterrupted access to education.
