Reflection

For several months, the East Timor Immersion group, led by Mr Greg Mills and Ms Vicky Howie, have been fundraising for various projects that they will support when they travel to Baucau (East Timor s second largest town) in September. As part of their fundraising efforts, the group will host a trivia night on Saturday, 4th June, from 7pm at the Marian Centre. Bookings can be made through the Sadadeen campus office (89 507399).

Best wishes

Br Paul Gilchrist Principal

Mary, our Mother, your total giving of yourself reminds us that we hold in trust from God our Father all our accomplishments and talents and gifts - trusted as we are to offer them in his service, and bring happiness and well-being to our brothers and sisters.

Your Yes to God s invitation to be the mother of his Son reminds us that prayer is not just words but is from the heart.

We ask you to pray to Jesus for us that the Holy Spirit may live fully in us, too, so that we may pray in the way that each of us finds best.

So may we be prepared to join you in saying Yes to God our Father, that Jesus may be born anew in our hearts.

Amen.

Campus News: Bath St Here we are, at Week Six of an eleven week Term! Our Year Three children have survived the NAPLAN testing and life can once again return to normal. Congratulations to all the children who underwent the testing process, for most, it is the first time such a thing has been encountered.

We are currently on our way towards the Fifth Sunday of Easter. In the Gospel of John 14:1-12, Jesus proclaims, I am the way, the truth and the Life.

PARKING OUTSIDE THE ANGLICAN CHURCH I have received a letter form the Parish Council of the Anglican Church, about parking in front of that Church. They advise us that formal signage has been erected, indicating these places are for official Church use. This is particularly important at the time of a funeral. The council asks that we use the Wills Tce council car park.

YEAR THREE AND FOUR SPORT DAY Thank you to Mr Typuszak for picking the coldest, windiest day of the year to conduct this outdoor event! Other than the weather, it was a great day and all of the children participated enthusiastically. The cheering and barracking was done in a positive way and our House Leaders all did a terrific job. Thank you to all of the parents who visited and helped our on the day, it all went to make it a joyful occasion. Congratulations goes to Gillen who won the day.

PRETEND FIGHTING

At Monday morning s assembly, I talked to the children about pretend fighting . Unfortunately, a lot of these pretend fights have ended up with scratches and bruises. Our older children remembered that we have a no fighting rule at Bath St, which includes pretend fights . Parents of our younger children might like to clarify this with their child and make them aware that there are possible consequences for fighting at Bath St.

YEAR 3 AND 4 VISITS TO THE ROAD SAFETY CENTRE This week Year 3 and 4 classes visited the Newland Park Road Safety Centre. Road Safety Officer Debra spoke to the students about road and bicycle safety. Students learned about the importance of always wearing a helmet when riding, ensuring their bicycle is well-maintained and following road rules. Students were then able to apply their knowledge in a practical situation, riding bicycles on the miniature road system, complete with stop signs, pedestrian crossings and traffic lights. A great time was had by all

but I think some our students may need a few more lessons before being allowed on our streets!

NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME COMES TO OLSH On Wednesday 25 May at 11:00am the children at the Bath Street Campus will join students from around Australia reading the picture book Feathers for Phoebe as part of the National Simultaneous Storytime 2011. Feathers for Phoebe, by Rod Clement, is a wonderfully illustrated Australian tale about self-esteem, self-acceptance and learning that appearances aren't everything. As part of the celebrations, all classes will read the book and participate in fun activities to support the reading. Room 12 will visit the Alice Springs Public Library, arriving at the library for a 10:30 reading to coincide with the eastern states, and will participate in planned craft activities.

The event has been organised by the Australian Library and Information Association, to promote the value of reading and literacy, the importance of Australia's book industry and the role of libraries.

COLLEGE UNIFORM DRESS LENGTH The length at which some girls are wearing the College Dress has become a matter of concern. For reasons of decorum, girls are expected to wear their dresses at a length considered to be modest and in line with the College policy. The requirements around dress length are listed on page 20 of the diary and make it clear that dresses should be no shorter than 8cm above the knee. Over the coming week, the senior staff will be monitoring dress length and contacting parents as required in order to enable our students to meet the College expectations in this area.

Campus News: Traeger ARE YOUR CHILDREN ACTING SAFELY ON THE WAY TO AND FROM SCHOOL?? TWO MAJOR CONCERNS I received calls from members of the community and had concerned parents visit the campus yesterday. Thank you to those people. My first concern was a group of students playing daring games with the Ghan (train) as it was in motion. Who can touch it, out run etc. I have contacted several parents but please discuss this issue with your child/ren. This is not safe behaviour, especially in a group situation.

My second concern is in the same location with students crossing Telegraph Tce. I have received calls concerning our students literally loitering across the traffic carriage way, attempting to delay oncoming traffic. Again this appears to be the group situation where the funniest or the coolest action is the one closest to a moving vehicle. Enough.

SCHOOL UNIFORM Please note that all Students are required to wear FULL SCHOOL UNIFORM to and from

school as well as at

school. The practice of changing shoes and hats will see these items confiscated till the end of term. Please note that your child is representing the school whenever they are in uniform, and their behaviour should reflect this.

OLSH TRAEGER RUGBY We have a team of twelve boys playing in the U/14 s rugby competition. Games on the weekend are all on Saturday at midday at Anzac Oval. The squad trains on a Wednesday from 3:15

5:00pm. All are invited to be spectators at the games or at training, but be early to get a good seat. Boys wishing to join the Traeger team should contact the CEO of OLSH Traeger Rugby, Mr Kieran Curnow.

NAPLAN Many thanks to all the staff and students who made conducting this test, at two levels, run very smoothly. Well done to Mr E for the outstanding organisation.

We remember our confirmation students as they work towards their Sacrament on June 19th
