ICAS University of New South Wales tests
ICAS testing starts next Tuesday for selected students in grade 2 – 6. This years test will be completed online in the ICT Lab area in the senior school. Testing will operate on Tuesday and Thursday over the next 3 weeks. Can I please ask that anyone entering the senior school during the testing period demonstrates our school value of Respect Ourselves and Others by moving quietly around the building and giving our students
every opportunity to do their best.
School Swimming Program
It has been fantastic to see the large number of students participating in the school program this year. We have 372 students attending one of the 7 sessions held each day. Thank you to all the teachers and support staff that are travelling to
the pool each day to make this program a success.
Parent Teacher Conferences
On Wednesday 11th September individual students, their parents and their teacher will have the opportunity to meet throughout the day for a student parent teacher conference. During this time, students will be able to share their achievements
and future goals with their parents and teacher.
These conferences/discussions can be booked online through Compass using your parent login details as previously
supplied. Bookings can also be made at the school office.
Parents will be able to select their conference time from
11.30am until 7:30pm, for a duration of 15 minutes.
Please note as approved by School Council there are no regular classes on this day and students are ONLY required at school
for the duration of the conference.
The aim is to provide you with timely information about your child’s progress, in conjunction with ongoing work samples and
Semester 1 reports.
We look forward to sharing this special and informative time
with you.

Grade 2 Maths In Weeks 5 and 6, Grade 2 have been learning about money. We have been learning to identify coins, adding coins and learning how to give change. We have been using a new resource to help us give change. The students enjoyed using the Coles Little Shops to go
shopping and give change.
In week 7, Grade 2 student have been learning about measurement. We are learning to estimate and measure length using formal and informal measurement. Students had a lovely afternoon flying paper planes and measuring with hand and foot spans. For capacity the students enjoyed investigating how many cups filled
different containers.

Bottle tops for the art room
We are looking for bottle top donations for the art

On September the 13th Kerrimuir is going to light up to celebrate the Chinese Mid-Autumn festival !!
The Moon Festival, also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival takes place each year on the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month- being Friday September 13th this year. It is a traditional Chinese celebration where the farmers give thanks to the moon for the harvest just been. The festival is about thankfulness, gathering with family & friends and community. To celebrate this the children are going to make lanterns during the next two weeks during art classes and on the evening of the 13th of September they will come alight and be hung along the oval fence line for all to
come past and enjoy.
There will be over 400 lanterns hand made by the children and lit up with LED candles – so please put it in your diary to come past after dark and enjoy the
spectacle.

As a young scientist and naturalist, you need to know all about Australia and why the land is the way it is. Often
Australia has experienced 10-15 years of severe drought and then flooding rains have come. Get a feel for the
“bush”, the great outback, and our water challenges in Australia. Learn “My Country” and see how it tells about our
country that is so different from where most people came from originally. Match photos to the ideas in the poem.
Learn to read weather maps and compare predictions to reality. What do you believe? Who was Albert Namatjira
and what did he do? Can we do what he did? Develop your memory, gain new words to use, write your own poetry
and create a painting. Why do we need “mateship” more than most?
