SCHOOL REPORTS Many hours have recently gone into writing reports and completing the task brings satisfaction. I thank all of the teachers for being so conscientious in preparing the report forms. They were sent home yesterday! All indicators of the child’s progress are put on the reports after work samples and assessments have been thoroughly examined. There should be no surprises on the report – you should be aware of what your child does in class and the results that they have been achieving. We should remember;

Report forms are one specific way of reporting and that there are many other forms of reporting that happen in the classroom, everyday.

Each child develops at their own individual rate.

Don’t compare your child’s report with another in the classroom or family member.

Children always need positive encouragement and a discussion based on what has been achieved.

To give you an opportunity to discuss aspects of the report / progress, with the classroom teacher, Parent Interviews will be held all day on Monday 29th June. This time has been set aside for you to come in for an interview. (If you have seen your child’s classroom teacher recently, you are not expected to arrange another interview.) I also ask that if you have a specific concern about an area of your child’s progress that you let the teacher know before the interview. Teachers have placed a Report Interview sheet on their door and you are asked to fill in the time that you would like to see them. If this day is not suitable and you still would like to see the classroom teacher, then please contact them directly and arrange another suitable time. INTERSCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY Best wishes are extended to all of the children who have been selected to represent St. Andrew’s School in tomorrow’s Interschool Cross Country. I appreciate all of your efforts at the training as well as the dedication that you have shown in your own time. All children who have been selected to participate would have received a note from Mrs Peacham outlining all of the details of the event. THANK YOU TO OUR VISTING TEACHERS We sincerely thank Year 2 – Jasmine Ferraro; Year 5 - Perri Nixon; Year 6 - Adam Littlewood who have been our visiting teachers this term. We thank them for all of their contributions and wish them every success in their chosen careers. LOST PROPERTY There are two tables set up outside of the front office with a number of different clothing items and lost property, ready for collection. If your child has lost any clothing or other items, please come and browse over the front tables and take the items. (The tables have been on display for the last couple of weeks). All items not claimed by this Friday will be donated.

God Bless Sam Fontaine Principal

Better Beginnings

Kindy White A representative from the Clarkson Library came to talk to the Kindy

parents on Tuesday to promote the local public library and the importance

of reading books. Each child was fortunate enough to receive a pack

including a children’s book, to take home. The Kindy White children were

very happy and excited to receive their Better Beginnings pack.

TO PARENTS AND COMMUNITY

JUNE 2015

School Performance Data

1. CONTEXTUAL INFORMATION

St Andrew's Catholic Primary School is a co –educational, double stream primary school from Kindergarten to Year 6. It offers an education that acknowledges, respects and nurtures the uniqueness of each person. We provide focused teaching in literacy and numeracy to students from diverse backgrounds. Specialist teachers provide Indonesian, Physical Education, Library, Music and Computing, using our well-equipped facilities. Complementary programmes include extension, integrated arts, Reading Recovery, EMU and an instrumental tuition program. We are involved in interschool athletics, swimming, regional basketball tournaments, competitions, lightning carnivals, performing arts and cross country competitions. All children are encouraged to participate. Other opportunities for student involvement include: band, choir, chess club, Bushrangers and Young Vinnies. St Andrew’s also operates intervention programs for students at risk - academically, developmentally or socially. Many children arrive in Kindy with delayed literacy and numeracy skills. This is evidenced in the school’s AEDI data which directs the early intervention strategies employed by the school. The school continues its focus on the Habits of Mind which are integrated across all curriculum areas. The school also encourages the continued use of Thinking Skills, including the Six Thinking Hats, Thinkers Keys, Bloom’s Taxonomy and Habits of the Mind St Andrew’s strongly encourages the use of learning technologies within the classroom. Interactive whiteboards are installed throughout the school with 8 – 10 computers/laptops in classrooms per year level. There is a bank of 32 computers in the Library. iPads (80)are being introduced throughout the school, with students with special needs being the first users of these. There is a focus on cyberbullying each year throughout the school. Our school community is very supportive and we have close links with St Andrew’s Parish. In second semester each year we operate a 3-year old playgroup, and OSHClub operates out of the school hours and Vacation Care from our school site.
