CANTEEN NEWS

Don’t forget to send your Hot Dog orders and payment to office by the 15th June.

PAYMENT ENVELOPES We have had a number of envelopes being returned recently, some with no names on the forms and/or envelopes, and other information missing! Understandably, this makes it very difficult to trace back to the owner. Could parents please make sure they put all the necessary information onto the payment envelopes and forms, eg. Student name, grade, amount being paid, and what the payment is for. Unfortunately, if we cannot trace who the payment is from, your child may miss out on an event. School Sport Victoria: Team Vic Each year, talented Victorian School students have the opportunity to trial for a place in the School Sport Victoria (SSV) Team Vic State team. Selected students participate in annual School Sport Australia (SSA) Championships including the Pacific School Games (PSG) held every second year. These championships offer gifted and talented students the opportunity to participate in higher levels of sporting competition against students from other Australian States and Territories. The students pictured below from the left Ben, Harry, Karli, Jack, Noah, Jade and Bailey all took place in these Team Vic trails. Ben, Harry and Bailey trailed for the Cricket Team Vic State team, Jack and Noah trailed for the AFL Team Vic State team, Karli trailed for the Netball Team Vic State team and Jade trailed for the Basketball Team Vic State team. All of these students performed really well, and should be commended on their efforts. I would like to specially acknowledge Jade and Bailey who have both progressed in to the final stage of selections, we wish them the best and hope they are selected to be a part of the Team Vic State team for their particular sport. I would also like to specially acknowledge Karli, who also progressed to the final stage of selections. Karli completed this last stage of selections just this Tuesday, and found out the following day that she made the 12 player Team Vic State Netball Team. Karli will now begin training with her team and will then represent Victoria at the nationals in Darwin in August. This is a huge achievement, well done Karli! BTYC Gymnastics Program Over the past few weeks the Grade 3/4 and Grade 5/6 students participated in a Gymnastics Program, delivered by BTYC Gymnastics. The program was delivered by qualified Gymnastics coaches from BTYC Gymnastics, who were highly enthusiastic and knowledgeable. They delivered the fundamentals of Gymnastics surrounding the areas of statics, locomotion movements, rotations, springs, landings and balances in a safe and fun environment. BTYC Gymnastics supplied the Gymnastics equipment including; inclined wedges, vaults, balancing beams and trampolines for our students to use throughout the program. The high-end Gymnastics equipment and the delivery of the program from qualified Gymnastics coaches provided our students with that ‘real’ Gymnastics experience. If your child really enjoyed the BTYC Gymnastics program, please contact BTYC on 9841 4773 for further information about how they can be involved in Gymnastics outside of school. Maroondah / Manningham Division Cross Country

Huge congratulations to Jade, Lucy, Rory, Callum, Gemma and Jemma who competed in the Maroondah / Manningham Division Cross Country on Tuesday the 12th of June at Yarra Valley Racecourse. This was the third stage of the competition, as they had progressed from the House Cross Country to District Cross Country and then to the Division Cross Country, so as you could imagine the competition had risen, and our students were really pushed to their limits. All our students did so well, they put in such a great effort to achieve their personal best on the day, so congratulations to everyone involved. A special mention goes to Jade and Callum who finished in the top 12 of their age group. Jade and Callum now progress to the fourth stage of competition which is the Eastern Metropolitan Region Primary Cross Country Championships. What an achievement, well done! Thank you to the parents for taking their child/ren to this event and showing such great support. Miss (Jessica) Swingler Phys Ed Teacher

Rainy day poems by 12F

These are some amazing poems that were written after reading the inspiring book Called “Flood” By Jackie French as our focus text last week . We hope you enjoy them.

I felt terrified. I could smell the muddy wet rain puddles. I saw ran streaming down the gutters. I could hear the rain dripping on the roof. I had look outside and saw puddles everywhere! By Fraser 12F

I hear the thundery water running outside and a loud storm. I felt wet because I got soaked and soggy. I could see the rain and bright lights like a rainbow in the white sky. It looked beautiful. By Ella 12F

I felt the rain trickle down my back and gee whizz it was cold. I could hear the black clouds banging against each other. I can see thunder banging in the distance. I could smell the rain it smelt like a blooming flower. I looked outside and I saw heaps of puddles. By Cade 12F

I felt scared inside and suddenly I could hear cracks in the rain. I can see thunder coming. I could smell the muddy water. I looked outside and saw lots of puddles. By Mitch 12F

I felt scared. I looked out and cold se the white devastation of the lightning storm approaching. I could hear thunder. I could smell the cold, wet air. By Xavier 12F.

I felt cold and frightened. I could hear the beautiful sound of the rain, on the roof like music playing. I can see dark grey clouds. I can smell fresh water. I looked out and saw a magnificent rainbow created by the rain. By Ruby, 1/2F

If you have CSEF please come to the office so we can adjust your balance owing. WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECKS – There has been some confusion recently over the requirements of Working With Children Checks. If parents, family members, or members of the community would like to volunteer their time at Kalinda Primary School (or any other school or childcare service) they will need a current Working With Children Check. The WWCC card you receive will then need to be presented to the office for copying. They will then be added to our WWCC Register. If this card is not presented, you will not be able to help out in any area of the school or on excursions outside of the school. If you would like to apply for a WWCC, this needs to be done online through: http://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/ Once you have registered your card at the office you may help out in any area of the school, i.e. classroom activities, sports days, excursions, canteen, SAKG, etc. However, before you do this you must enter via the office and sign the Visitors Register and wear a Visitors badge before you proceed to the area you are visiting. If you are eligible for Camps, Sports & Excursions Funding (CSEF), please do not process through Compass, as this will alter the amount owed. Complete your excursion permission form and bring into the Office for payment. Credit Card & BPay payments – Please remember that we cannot accept payments of less than $10 for credit card and less than $30 for BPay. If you are paying by BPay, please also send in a short email or note letting us know the amount, what the payment was for and the BPay Receipt number, to [email protected] If payments of less than $10 are received, we will be returning them home and asking for cash payment. The 2017 Parent Payment Policy and the Kalinda Primary School Hardship Policy is located on our website at www.kalinda.vic.edu.au/ - Notices & Forms, for your information. . If you have any queries regarding any of the above, please contact the Office. THERESA JARVIS BUSINESS MANAGER COMPASS – If your child is away due to illness, medical appointments, family holidays, or other reasons, please remember to login to Compass and register their non-attendance through the “Add Note / Approval” tab on your child’s Home Page in Compass.
