Newsletter No: 16 Wednesday, 25 th May 2016 Dear Parents and Friends, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your extremely generous donations for the Cent Sale at our Fete that we received last Friday. I was overwhelmed with the amazing response. Thank you so much! I would also like to draw your attention to the Working Bee in the Wetlands that Conservation Volunteers Australia are organising that has been advertised in the newsletter for the past month or so that is occurring this Saturday. We would love to see as much support from our parent community as possible. Our MacKillop Wetlands are located at the far end of the school and are a wonderful educational asset to our school. Our Wetlands once had a functioning ‘outdoor classroom, a serpent trail, a timeline and the students of MacKillop planted thousands of trees down in this area. Due to a number of weather events over the past five years the area has become overgrown with invasive weeds making it unsafe for the school to utilise. The “Friends of MacKillop Wetlands’, a volunteering group, have been doing their best to maintain the area. We have been fortunate enough this year to have Conservation Volunteers Australia (CVA) supported by Rio Tinto Hail Creek Mine (RTCA) Community Development Fund, assisting us to restore the Wetlands to its former glory, so that students and teachers alike can reconnect to the environment and see the importance of wetland conservation and its relevance to the local community. Helen Privett and I had a walk down in the area last week to see how the project was coming along and it is looking great. The volunteers are doing a wonderful job. Conservation Volunteers Australia have now asked if our school community could assist. If you can spare any time on Saturday between 8.00am and 11.00am to come and join in the Working Bee in the Wetlands, we would really appreciate your support.
