TheftWe have had some incidences of Secondary School students reporting money being taken from their bags. CCTV cameras have been installed in many locations and when this is reported to us we investigate thoroughly. The individual(s) responsible for this theft will be dealt with severely when caught. However, it would be a great help if the following guidelines were followed by students: 1. Students do not bring large sums of money to school. They are able to charge their ID Cards with money from the machine in the entrance to the school.2. Students should not bring valuables to school and if they do they should lock them in their locker.3. At the start of the P.E class any valuables not possible to be left in the locker may be handed in to the teacher at the start of the lesson.4. Students should report all incidences of theft to their Form Tutor or P.E teacher in the case of P.E

Update of Contact DetailsIt is important that the School has up-to-date details for every family. If you have not done so, please could you return the update of contact details form that was sent home earlier this term to the School immediately.

Parents’ Forum – Tuesday 8th November, 2016

The Parents’ Forum went on smoothly with a good number of attendance. We are pleased to inform that

the parents who turned up for the event showed great support for the school and children’s learning.

Dental Care Session

Nurses from Klinik Pergigian Ipoh came to the school for a Dental Care Session on Thursday 17th November.

The Reception and Year 1 students armed with their cups, brushes and tooth pastes had a hands-on session

on the proper ways of brushing their teeth. The session was a good lesson especially for children who do

not brush their teeth everyday. The children had their teeth checked and the nurses were pleased to see

that most of them are taking good care of their teeth.

IPC Workshop for Nursery to Year 1 parents will be on

Tuesday, 22nd November at TEYCI hall @ 09:30hrs – 11:30hrs.

Christmas Assembly is scheduled on Monday 28th November

@ 09:00hrs.

Nursery children having fun during role-play to the story of “The Enormous Turnip”.

Plant, plant, plant the seed.

Water, water, water the seed.

Hee… hoo… we all pulled the turnip out. Yeah!!!

Daddy says to mummy “Come and pull the turnip

with me!”.

Monkey said to the lion, “Come and pull the turnip with us!” The turnip is too big.

Wow! The turnip has now grown. I need help

with this.

The Reception children had a “Special Clothes Day” for their Entry Point on the theme “Patterns”.

Some came dressed in stripes, polka dots, checkers and floral clothes for the day.

Don’t we all look pretty dressed in different patterned clothes?

Book Exchange Corner Dear Parents/Guardians,

The Primary Student Council would like to set

up a Book Exchange Corner to encourage the

love for reading.

Children will be able to take out a book to read

during break times or bring it home. All we ask

is that books taken out to be returned to the

shelves when they have finished reading so

that other children can have the opportunity to

enjoy them as well.

This is how you can help us. We are looking

for pre-loved books or comics that are age-

appropriate for Primary children.

If you have any books or comics suitable for

us, please drop them at the Primary Office.

Thank you very much for your help.

On Thursday 3rd November, 2016 the Student Council hosted Fright Night.

The long awaited event was a huge success. Students, parents and teachers

all came with their costumes excitedly, competing for the ‘Most Gruesome’

outfit.

There was music blasting from the speakers around the Canteen with people

dancing to the beat. Under the dimmed light with people dancing, it seemed more like a spooky zombie

showdown.

Unfortunately, luck wasn’t on our side that evening, as we experienced heavy rain and a thunderstorm

throughout the time we were setting up. Our mini game booths that were supposed to be on the field were

forced to shift somewhere else. Nevertheless, the show went on. Despite some damaged items, we had a

good response with the mini games, especially from the lower secondary students.

For the Primary children, we created a special event in the afternoon and the children loved it. They were so

excited about all the games, especially the “donut bites”. They were adorable.

The main highlights of the event were the Asylum Survival and the Haunted Asylum games. The demand in

coupons increased tremendously due to the enormous participation and positive response from both these

games. The screams and ear splitting music transformed the school into a place from your nightmares.

Throughout the evening, there were screams, tears and laughter, but among those, the most important

element was that memories were made. A photo booth was also available for people to take instant pictures

as souvenirs from the awesome evening.

At the end of the day, we must not forget the blood, sweat and tears of the volunteers, teachers and students

who sacrificed their precious time to contribute to this event. Furthermore, this event would not have

happened without the help from all our sponsors of the night. Fright Night 2016 wouldn’t be a success without

all of the people above.

Last but not least, we the Student Council of Tenby Schools Ipoh would like to thank each and every one of

you who made our first big project a success.

Sixth Formers go on a Drama Blitz in Kinta Valley schools

The school audience at SMK

Buntong,Ipoh

The students at SMK Perak Girls Ipoh

Page 16: Newsletter No. 128 - November 2016

The Tenby Sixth Form’s Shakespearean drama tradition continued to be upheld this year

as Cohort 14 students recently went all out to stage “Macbeth” and “Julius Caesar” at

SMK Perak Girls (PGS) and SMK Buntong Ipoh.

Our first performance was done at the Perak Girls’ School for an audience of more

than 300 students in Forms Three and Four. At SMK Buntong, we had a comparable

audience size again of third and fourth formers.

Hasan Ji as Julius Caesar with Sonia Kaur as

Calpurnia (Caesar’s wife)

“Fair is foul and foul is fair; Hover through the fog

and filthy air.” – the three witches in “Macbeth”

Page 17: Newsletter No. 128 - November 2016

Both plays were well received by appreciative audiences who applauded the superb

acting and the comic moments. At both schools, there was an interactive Shakespearean

Drama Quiz designed to activate audience interest in Shakespearean drama. We had

excellent audience participation and recorded the full names of the participants in order

to issue certificates to them.

Both plays came out strong despite the technical challenges faced as the students were

determined not to let their hard work go to waste and thus displayed excellent

improvisation and team work. This is especially thanks to the student directors, Jyrteanna

Teo (“Macbeth”) and Gangga Sonia Kaur (“Julius Caesar”) who worked tirelessly to

coordinate all the facets of the drama performances. Their efforts have been amply

rewarded by the supremely impressive heights of dramatic performance achieved by our

sixth formers.

When asked what their drama experience as directors has done for them, Sonia

Kaur had this to say:

“Our class has seen what teamwork can do. We have seen what a flowering of

ideas can do. We now look at one another with new eyes.Thank you, everyone!”

For Jyrteanna Teo, as for Sonia Kaur, this is her maiden foray as drama director.

JT, as Jyrteanna is popularly known, thought carefully before saying: “When you are

chosen for the director’s role, it a leadership position of the highest responsibility. It is my

first plunge into such a challenging yet rewarding experience. I have learned much from

the experience, most of all about myself and what I can do. Thank you, classmates for

giving your utmost for something we shall all remember!”

Emi Yamamoto (Lady Macbeth) and Marcus Yap Mun Wai

(Macbeth) gave the play some of its best moments with

their stirring fusion of romance and overweening ambition!

Page 18: Newsletter No. 128 - November 2016

Overall, the drama experience has been an enriching one, giving the Sixth Form

students the opportunity to bond and work as a team whilst at the same time promoting

Tenby Schools Ipoh as a centre of excellence in drama.

The Shakespearean drama is indeed recognized as one of the signature features

of our Sixth Form as we come close to the curtain call for this chapter of our educational

journey at Tenby Schools Ipoh.

We the Sixth Formers of Cohort 14 take this opportunity to thank our Campus

Principal, Ms Jane Kuok, and our Head of School,Mr Richard Davidson, for their unfailing

support for this drama tradition at Tenby Schools Ipoh. Bravo!
