“SIITME – IEEE 21 International Symposium for Design and Technology in Electronic Packaging” was a high‐scale event organized, between 22 and 25 September, by the Politehnica University of Bucharest, in partnership with Transilvania University and Miele Tehnica Brașov Company.

On behalf of our University, the organizers were faculty staff from the Department of Electronics and Computers. Acting as co‐organizer first in 2008, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science had the privilege to co‐organize this event for the second time in 2015.

Besides its high‐profile academic status, SIITME has gradually managed to throw a bridge between our University and the electronic industry. The symposium format allows for face‐to‐face interactions between academics, researchers, doctoral students and representatives of the industries.

The industry contributed with demo stands, oral presentations and discussions on subjects of mutual interest: student training and collaboration in research projects. Particularly noteworthy is the workshop “Strategic Partnership between the University and the Electronic Industry” organized and hosted by Miele Tehnica Company. Present at the workshop were prominent representatives from universities around the country, electronic companies, and the political milieu. On this occasion, the discussions were aimed at laying the foundations of a strategic partnership for education.

The success of SIITME 2015 is shown not only by the large numbers of participants, but, more importantly, by the important steps taken towards bringing the University and the industry closer together.

On the 13 and 14 November, Music as Therapy International (UK) celebrated its twentieth anniversary together with our Faculty of Music within the framework of the International Conference “Music Therapy in Romania: Theory and Practice. Present and Future”. For two days music was the main topic of debate in an attempt to highlight its place among other alternative therapy methods.

There was a consensus among the participants that the benefits of melotheraphy were proved by the practices of melotherapists and music therapists, by the research attesting to the positive effects of music on the human body with the help of instruments measuring the homeostasis, the physiological and physiopathological mechanisms, and by means of validated psychological tests, which can measure the improvement of the altered psychic process.

The conference presentations approached an interesting array of topics with immediate applicability in practice, leading to increased creativity and efficiency of adults and children in their everyday life, as well as to diminished stress levels, but also in theory as an adjuvant in various forms of psychotherapy and psychiatric pathology.

To increase the benefits of music and its power to prevent disease and maintain the health of body and soul, the involvement of more domain specialists is essential. The joint forces and competencies of music therapists and expert musicologists, doctors and

educators will promote the development, research and implementation of melotheraphy as an alternative therapy method.
