8Avoca Beach Public School Newsletter Term 3 Week 6 Anti Bullying Review (repeat) Students at Avoca Beach Public School learning in a safe, secure environment where they are supported to achieve their personal best. As part of the school’s regular evaluations we are asking for parent input into anti bullying strategies and updating school based procedures in line with the Department of Education’s Wellbeing Framework. Every 3 years each public school must review its Anti Bullying Action Plan. Part of this process involves collaborative consultation with students, staff and the parent community. The process so far has included:
Staff analysed the National Safe Schools Framework and compared our school based understanding of bullying with national agreed standards
Staff also complied a rigorous survey for the parent community
Students were involved in a mini lesson with the Principal or Deputy Principal outlining what bullying is and any experiences in the last 12 months.
The P&C have been consulted regarding the process and how input will be sought from the parent community. Parents are encouraged to complete the online survey and also requested that should they have any concerns regarding their child’s wellbeing that they make an appointment to speak with relevant staff. During the recent Tell them from me Student Survey a significant smaller percentage of students in Year 4-6 had indicated they had been bullied compared to the state average. No more than 12% of students in Year 1 -2 had indicated they had been allied in the last 12 months during the individual survey conducted by the deputy principal. Prior to completing the survey parents are asked to consider the definition of bullying. Bullying is repeated verbal, social or psychological behaviour that is harmful and involves the misuse of power by an individual or group towards one or more people. Conflict between equals or single incidents are not defined as bullying. Bullying can involve a number of different behaviours including physical, verbal, social/emotional or cyberbullying. The link will remain active for 2 weeks and the anonymous survey can be found on our school website as well as by following the link: https://goo.gl/RRnoJx Musica Viva Last week students enjoyed a musical performance from Musica Viva.
