PRESIDENT’S NOTE, GARY H. CLEMMONS
Our goal this past year has been to increase the number and variety of Club sponsored activities. Recently, an “events” committee has been created to recommend Club sponsored activities to the Board. The Committee is hard at work planning events for 2014. We want to publicly thank Melissa Holton, as Chairperson, and her committee members, for their time and efforts in planning these events.
New activities offered this past year include: (1) Thursday night live music on the porch; (2) movie night at the pool for children and
youth; (3) Holiday Kickoff Party in November; and (4) a “Tacky Christmas Party” in December.
In 2014, we hope you will take advantage of the many Club sponsored events. These events will be well advertised. The Board wishes all Members and their families a Happy New Year and a prosperous 2014.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! First I would like to thank the entire membership for their donat ions to the s taf f Christmas fund. The staff at NBGCC had an extra special
Christmas due to the members generous contribution.
In an effort to keep the membership up to date with what’s happening at NBGCC, I wanted to let the membership know about several new additions and improvements we have made. First, on the golf course we have installed a new driving mat behind the practice area on hole number eleven. This gives the membership the ability to practice year round on a soft green hitting area, even in the winter time when the grass is dormant. Second, at the tennis facility, we have just finished upgrading the two bathrooms, with a new floor and we took down the old wallpaper and painted. !
Third, NBGCC is now accepting credit cards. Visa and MasterCard are now being accepted for all Food & Beverage purchases, as well as cart fees and green fees in the Golf Pro-Shop. Credit cards will not be accepted for monthly dues. Now you can bring guests to the
Club and they can pay for their own meal. Fourth, we have installed a new fire pit on the upper patio for all members to enjoy on those cool brisk nights. Fifth, Chef Chris has now been here for a couple of months and has updated the dinner menu. So come have dinner and check out the new menu.
Finally, I would like to thank everyone who took the time to fill out and return the survey. We are currently working through the data and hopefully will have the results to the membership by the end of February.
REMINDERS:
Shirt tails shall be tucked in at times while playing golf.
Smokers - please respect the appearance of Club property by disposing of cigarette and cigar butts in an ashtray or trash can.
Walkers – please be aware of golfers at all times on the golf course. Golfers have the right-of-way at all times and getting hit by a golf ball can be extremely dangerous and painful. Walking on the golf course is done at the walker’s risk.

LES’ WE FORGET, BILL STREET! We start off this new year remembering the many good years our Club benefited from the terms Carmi Winters served as President of the NBGCC Board of Directors. Mr. Winters served six years as President, while also representing the AAA Auto Association.! Lib Bryan began her long reign as our Ladies Champion. She and her husband Jimmy had two children, Jimmy Jr. and Dee. Jimmy Sr. was also active at the Club and successfully promoted our first Open, as well as the Men’s Annual Tournament. The Open had such an overwhelming turn out, men would wait in line just to sign up and secure a spot. The Bryans bought Schiltz Beer
Distributing from Cecil King and later added Coors. More on Lib later.! Leroy Price, after winning the Men’s Club Championship for the second time, also dominated the Senior’s Championship. Leroy and Mavis Price are our couple to capture championships at the same time. Leroy & Mavis had a daughter Kathy, who recently retired from teaching. ! Bill Turner was our five time champion, I regret no family background was available.! Tis the the Season, Happy Holidays everyone and I hope Santa filled your stocking!

Tennis News2014 USTA JR. SANCTIONED TOURNAMENT DATES
NBG&CC will be hosting the 13th Annual USTA junior tournaments again this year. These tournaments have been going strong for the last twelve years and have provided a great introduction to competitive tennis for many of our juniors.
If you are interested in your children participating in these events and would like to start preparing them please call the pro shop. We are available for private and group instruction to help prepare your kids for competition.
Below is a list of the two USTA tournaments that we will be hosting and the links to more information about them.

Men’s 8.5 Twin Rivers Rapids Compete in State Tournament
Twin River’s Rapids 8.5 team from NBG&CC competed in the state tournament November 14 – 17, 2013. These men had a great run at a state championship and proudly came home in third place overall. Great job guys and we look forward to more success in the spring.
Twin Rivers Rapids Roster:
Stewart Futch, Tyler Harris, Al Mack, & Ken Wilkins
Spring League Tennis Set to Begin in March
I know it is just January but we need to start preparing for the spring league season. NBG&CC usually fields four to six teams for the spring league so my advice for you is to start preparing your teams now. Also, let this serve as a reminder that all teams established must provide a sign-up sheet for the tennis pro shop to post before signing up team members. This will allow all of our members the opportunity to sign up and play on a league team. Thank you for your cooperation.

Tennis NewsThank You Ladies Tennis
Association (LTA)
I would like to personally thank the ladies tennis association (LTA) for their support and commitment to not only tennis but the surrounding community. The LTA is responsible for raising several hundred dollars for the Journey of Hope Foundation (supporting cancer patients in Craven County), new
furniture in the tennis pro shop, providing snacks for USTA sanctioned tournaments, and generating exposure to the tennis program. The tennis program would not be what it is today without the overwhelming support of the LTA. If you are new to the club or would like to learn more or even join this wonderful group of ladies please contact the tennis pro shop (637-6201).
New Club rule effective January 1, 2014: “To play on a Club sponsored league tennis team, a non-member must reside outside the geographic boundaries of Craven and contiguous counties and pay a fee to be set at the discretion of the Board.”
Winter Weather and Tennis Court ConditionsPlease know that it will be my priority and goal to maintain the tennis courts and their
playability before and after freezing conditions. Personally, I take pride in knowing that
the tennis courts at NBG&CC are open and available for play before any other clay
court facility in the surrounding area.
Communication will be extremely important during freezing weather therefore, if courts
are unplayable you will see signs closing the tennis courts, you will receive emails
concerning court conditions, and the voice message for the tennis pro shop will offer
detailed information. Thank you for your patience during inclement weather.
