2015 was an important year for Europe. Some say that the Old Continent has finally emerged from recession, others believe that the crisis is still deeply rooted in our society and economy. For sure, something has changed, at least in terms of confidence. Business operators are looking to farther markets and to new opportunities that definitely represent a big challenge for today's and tomorrow's entrepreneurs. We are still living in a continent that moves forward with a pulled handbrake. In 2015, the International Monetary Fund estimates 1.5% growth in the Euro area, while emerging countries inside Europe are growing twice as fast. And these results are lower than the emerging economies around the world, scoring average rates of 4%, and China which, despite recent currency tension, still enjoys a positive GDP trend close to 7%. And what about the woodworking technology industry? It is still early to give a final opinion about 2015, as significant figures are missing. However, the feeling is that estimates will turn into final figures showing good recovery, close to double-digit. We are not trying to hide: the year that has just closed was pretty good, but more than in the past, we saw a clear dichotomy: big companies entered new markets leveraging different forms of globalization, while small companies struggled to keep their market share. UAE home to 36% of furniture factories in GCC, and controls significant imports in timber sector

Dubai WoodShow scheduled for April 2016 will see major expansion

Organisers of the Dubai WoodShow, the largest exhibition in the Middle East for timber, machineries and tools, have revealed that the UAE is home to nearly 36% of the furniture factories of the GCC, reflecting the growth in the domestic furniture sector and increase in demand for imported timber from global and regional markets. Dawood Al Shezawi, CEO, Strategic Marketing & Exhibitions, organisers of the Dubai WoodShow quoting Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC), says the GCC furniture industry includes 1062 factories, which recorded a growth of 4.5 per cent over 5 years. Al Shezawi added that the number of home and office furniture factories in the Gulf region saw a dramatic increase, which positively reflected on the growth of timber sector. Dubai WoodShow, the biggest wood and woodworking machinery industry trade show in the Middle East, is set to host a larger number of exhibitors in its next edition to be held from 4 – 6 April at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. Following an impressive turnout of 10,544 trade professionals from 95 countries last year, the exhibition has attracted even wider variety of products from global brands. “The 2015 edition recorded a 26% increase over the previous edition, and we have completely sold out the exhibition space. Dubai Woodshow 2016 will be more diverse in terms of exhibitors’ portfolio and products," said Al Shezawi. The Dubai WoodShow 2016 is set to expand its range of products to include Hardwood & Softwood, wood machineries & tools, flooring, plywood, veneer, MDF, laminates & boards, finishings & fittings, paints, adhesives & glues, and others. It will also be open for retail shoppers, making available a wide range of local and global brands targeting end users. Dubai WoodShow brings together building materials suppliers & dealers, importers, exporters, furniture manufacturers, contractors, developers, machinery manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, dealers, flooring companies, architects, interior designers, as well as associations & institutions. The exhibition welcomes visitors from countries such as UAE, Saudi Arabia, India, Pakistan, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Iran, Kuwait, and China plus many others. “The timber industry is booming with the ongoing construction activity in the region. Moreover, there is a growing demand from local furniture manufacturers who find in the annual Dubai Woodshow a platform for clinching mega deals onsite,” added Al Shezawi. “Every year we witness the launch of new technologies introduced to this region for the first time through Dubai WoodShow. We could not be more delighted with the demand from the exhibitors for the 2016 edition, most of whom are looking to expand presence in the UAE through local investors,” concluded Al Shezawi. Organised by Strategic Marketing and Exhibitions, one of the leading exposition and conference organisers in the Middle East, the Dubai WoodShow is considered one of its kind because it is not only dedicated to companies and large firms, but also to retail and end-users. The exhibition brings huge machinery as well as other retail products under one roof.

LISDEREVMASH: ON THE CUSP OF GROWING MARKET NEEDS

LISDEREVMASH is the leading Ukrainian exhibition of equipment and technology for forestry and wood processing. It will be held in Kiev (Ukraine) on September 27-30, 2016. LISDEREVMASH is a major industry event that gathers thousands of visitors from all over Ukraine and CIS countries. These are forestry and woodworking experts, furniture manufacturers, builders and many others. Here they have the best opportunity to discover the latest equipment and materials novelties, to meet partners and to find suppliers. This exhibition features a wide range of machinery, equipment and technology for harvesting, primary and secondary wood processing, furniture production and waste wood recycling, as well as solid biofuel heat generators. Owing to the international composition of exhibitors, Ukrainian businessmen have a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the products of famous brands and equipment updates that were earlier demonstrated at the world’s best exhibitions. LISDEREVMASH 2016 will be held at the initial stage of Ukraine’s economy radical reforming that covers the forestry and woodworking industry as well. For instance, the Law that bans export of unprocessed timber comes into force in Ukraine in 2016. It is also expected that the import duty on woodworking machinery will be cancelled. And the state programs funding the switch to alternative energy sources will continue their work successfully. These efforts will involve changes in the market structure: more wood will be processed within the country now, and more equipment will be needed for Ukrainian companies to upgrade their production. Therefore, the importance of LISDEREVMASH exhibition will increase. We have already noticed this trend at LISDEREVMASH 2015. The number of our exhibitors increased by 12%, while the number of visitors exceeded 7,800 people. Advanced technology for wood processing and furniture production were showcased here. The biofuel sector was more diverse too. It featured pellet and briquette production plants, wood splitters and solid fuel boilers. You get a chance to present your products in one of the four expositions: WoodMachinery, FurniTech, WoodProduct or WoodEnergy by participating in LISDEREVMASH. Here you can find customers and conclude dealership agreements. Ukrainian market becomes more and more attractive. And LISDEREVMASH remains the most convenient way to enter it.

Holz, Switzerland's traditional trade fair for wood, provides the ultimate experience for the timber industry

Holz is Switzerland's leading specialist trade fair for timber processing and is being staged at Messe Basel from 11 to 15 October 2016. A total of 34 000 joiners and carpenters are expected to attend, together with specialists from the fields of interiors, timber construction, industry and commerce. Awaiting them will be approximately 350 exhibitors from Switzerland and abroad presenting their innovative products and services from the fields of machines, tools, materials and accessories. Timber as a construction material is currently very much in trend. Through the latest findings and technological progress, timber construction is becoming established both in structural elements for single-family homes and in the high-rise segment. Extending the concept for Holz to place greater focus on timber construction is thus proving a success. Holz has also increased its appeal for carpenters and for woodworking operations engaged in both joinery and carpentry.

For more information: www.holz.ch

Joiners and carpenters are taking up the challenge

The processing trade and manufacturing industry are reacting to the increasing price pressure and tougher economic and market conditions with innovative ideas, topmost quality, sound advice and professional service as well as with new, lower-priced production and assembly methods. Digitisation and the possibilities it offers are today providing tradespeople with new options that have been available to industry for a long time. An increasing number of industrially produced semi-finished products are being used in the manufacturing processes employed by tradespeople, in particular.

"Zukunft Holz" – new technologies, designs and materials

The special section dedicated to the future of timber at Holz provides an attractive exhibition format for companies with innovative products, new technologies and trend-setting materials. The platform as a whole is a further development of the successful concept comprising a mix of exhibition, innovation forum, networking zone and a bistro. For the second time, "Zukunft Holz" is being supported by the exhibition's strategic partner – the Architecture, Wood and Civil Engineering Department at Bern University of Applied Sciences. Stand packages are available from as little as 1500 Swiss francs.

European Championship Timber Construction

The European Championship for Carpenters is being staged in Switzerland again this year and will be featured at Holz 2016. This international competition promises to be a topical and high-quality event for both the participating delegations from some ten countries and the visitors to the fair.

FITECMA 2017 IS ALREADY UNDERWAY

The 13th edition of the Wood & Technology International Fair will be held from June 13th to 17th, 2017, at Centro Costa Salguero, in Buenos Aires city. Society has begun to show concrete signs of its concern about the care of environment and in that context wood emerges clearly as the friendliest material and with greatest growth possibilities in the future. The new motto to accompany the fair at its next edition expresses a summary of conditions posed by the market: “Wood grows, FITECMA too”.

In that line, ASORA has already started to work in order that FITECMA 2017 may generate more business and multiply opportunities of contacts and sales, which will surely allow exceeding the success achieved in 2015. As at each fair edition, a great variety of actions and activities will be implemented to put at visitors’ reach solutions, supplies and the most diverse and advanced technologies for their company or profession through an understandable and comparable offer. In March 2015, FITECMA certified again, for the second time, its “Quality Management System” under IRAM-ISO 9001-2008 Standard, an achievement ratifying the permanent desire of improvement on the part of the organization to support the best and most efficient “exhibitor-visitor”interaction. The fair’s latest edition positive statistics, with regard to both exhibitors and visitors, are valid indicators to ensure that the market recognizes this effort. 50 per cent of visitors arrived from Argentina’s inland and 35 per cent from Buenos Aires province. Also, data show too that 9 out of 10 of those visitors have a decisive role in the purchase process at their companies: 76 per cent take the decision and other 13 per cent have a direct influence on them. We are convinced that, as it keeps happening since the first edition in 1994, this summons will be very well received by companies of all branches, which we especially invite to accompany us at FITECMA 2017.
