As real as a "why?" can be in such situations, I feel that we, as followers of Jesus Christ, must move out from the "WHYS". What am I saying? Well, in it's purest form "why" is a reaction that sometimes can lead to faith but more often than not, "why" leads us away from a growing faith. When a person moves away from "why" and simply trusts, it's a beautiful thing because it's a spiritual growth/maturity thing. My father was sick for many years and he was bed ridden for three years or so (could only get up for a few minutes). For a long time he got sad about his sickness and about all of the things that he couldn't do anymore. On several visits, I watched him struggle with the "why" question. "WHY ME?" You see he had worked his whole life to be with my mother and have a financially secure and fun retirement with her and with no worries. Then the sickness came. It's as though something he worked for had been snatched from him in this sickness. Then it happened. His outlook changed and I saw it when it happened. He rolled over in a hospice bed and said ," Chris, if someone has to be this sick, why not me who is a child of God." Do you see the shift of his heart in that one, bold , faithful statement? This is what Jesus was trying to tell the disciples in the mustard seed statement. Faith moves the human heart away from why and embraces not only what is but what can rise out of the ashes. Even if we have a little faith we can rise. That is the heart shift that a growing follower embraces. What a shift! How beautiful is that God given, Holy Spirit led, view of our God! This is what trust looks like and I just preached that faith is what? TRUST! If God Himself was gonna do something incredible in our future, through all of us , would you have eyes to embrace it? Would you even see a shift in us like the shift in my dad when facing his sickness? What if God was about to take us to another deeper, more trusting level as a church. Here's a thought: If God Himself was going to raise up a church in Albertville to really impact a lost and broken community, or world for that matter, on a level that we can't even imagine yet, maybe we are called to shift. Maybe instead of asking "why?" or even "how?" Why don't we grab our mustard seed and know that this mountain is about to be moved! NOT "WHY?" NOT EVEN "HOW?" but " WHY NOT US!" Why not us who are children of the KING! In the end, my dad closed his eyes for the final time and was embraced by the ultimate "WHY NOT!" Jesus of Nazareth. THE FAITH OF A MUSTARD SEED

It 's interesting that Jesus makes this statement in Matthew 17:20 on the heels of the Disciple's questioning things. Jesus "WHY couldn't we drive out the demon?" They asked. Isn't that just like us today? Things don't go smoothly or maybe even our way and the first question we ask is why. Why?

I have been with people who have lost a loved one and been asked "why?" I have held a mother who lost a young daughter and in that moment, I found myself asking "WHY?"

As real as a "why?" can be in such situations, I feel that we, as followers of Jesus Christ, must move out from the "WHYS". What am I saying? Well, in it 's purest form "why" is a reaction that sometimes can lead to faith but more often than not, "why" leads us away from a growing faith. When a person moves away from "why" and simply trusts, it 's a beautiful thing because it 's a spiritual growth/maturity thing. It 's as though something he worked for had been snatched from him in this sickness. Then it happened. His outlook changed and I saw it when it happened. He rolled over in a hospice bed and said ," Chris, if someone has to be this sick, why not me who is a child of God."

Do you see the shift of his heart in that one, bold , faithful statement? This is what Jesus was trying to tell the disciples in the mustard seed statement. Faith moves the human heart away from why and embraces not only what is but what can rise out of the ashes. Even if we have a litt le faith we can rise.

Here's a thought:

If God Himself was going to raise up a church in Albertville to really impact a lost and broken community, or world for that matter, on a level that we can't even imagine yet, maybe we are called to shift.
