WELCOME BACK FOR TERM 2 Term 1 ended on a high with Molong Central students enjoying extracurricular activities, work experience and discos. Year 7-12 students were fortunate to have their disco sponsored by the Cabonne Council as a Youth Week initiative. This was a wonderful opportunity for students who enjoyed the opportunity to socialise with their peers. Stage 3 students travelled to Sydney and Hill End and when they returned from their adventure it was clear they were exhausted but had enjoyed their experience. The staff who accompanied the students also looked exhausted but on speaking with them the following day it was clear that all had enjoyed experience and were keen to talk about their adventures. Year 10 students finished work experience and by all accounts many of them had an insight into the next stage of their lives. For some students there are work place opportunities that they are keen to explore, whilst others have returned with a greater appreciation of school. Whatever the realisation our students have grown from their experiences and this will help them determine where their future careers may be. Term 2 promises to be busy and productive as our year 3,5,7 and 9 students prepare for NAPLAN which begins on the 10th of May and finishes on the 12th of May. The 13th of May is a catch up day for students who may have missed a test. Year 11 students also begin examinations next week and Year 12 enter their second last term of school. There are several new policies that will be presented at the next Parents and Citizens Association. An anti-bullying, wellbeing and mobile phone policy have been rolled out this term to students. These policies reflect an emphasis on wellbeing and recognise the changing issues in society. We welcome back Kate Sullivan and Deanne Millner from Maternity leave both of whom will be working in a part time capacity this term.
Anzac Day fell at the end of the school holidays and although our student numbers were slightly down on the previous year, Molong Central were well represented at the March and Commemoration Ceremony. Our Secondary Captains presented a moving story of our Anzac Heroes. Back at school on the Thursday the whole school joined together around the Lone Pine for a school ANZAC assembly which saw captains from Primary and Secondary present a special service to the school. The Stage 1 choir also sung a beautiful song to honour the occasion.

Year 12 HSIE Excursion Early Monday morning, a weary group of nine Year 12 Modern History and Legal Studies students boarded the train to Sydney, accompanied by myself and Mr Tony Keen. After a long journey and a quick breakfast, we visited the Sydney Jewish Museum to learn all about Nazi Germany and the Jewish people during World War II. Our wonderful guide, Yotam, gave us an informative seminar and answered all of our questions. Students then had the privilege of meeting two Holocaust survivors. The first was Olga, an 88-year-old survivor who had worked at Auschwitz Concentration Camp during the war. Her tale was horrific, but also uplifting, as she told us of how she moved to Australia and lived a wonderful life after the war. The second survivor who spoke was Lena. Lena is 97-years-old. She spoke of how her family worked in a laundry during the war in Poland. She also spoke of hiding for 18 months in a bathroom as well as living beneath the sewers below the city. Her tale was heartbreaking. She spoke of her loss as well as the kindness of others, both Jews and Germans, during the war. Needless to say, the whole group was very emotional, but also very gracious and empathetic after hearing Lena's amazing story of survival. After another seminar and a tour of the museum, we all left feeling grateful for the experience we had just been given and eager to share the stories we had been told. After a delicious dinner in Chinatown, some gelato and some fun at Time Zone playing Laser Tag, Mario Kart and AC/DC Pinball (Mr Keen's favourite), we called it a night and had some much needed sleep! The next day we were up early to visit the local courts. We were lucky enough to watch parts of a hearing and we even watched some people receive their sentences (some fines for selling some illegal products!) Sergeant Dave told us all about the court system, we got to ask a lot of questions and he even tried to arrest Lachlan! We all felt like we were in an episode of Law and Order! We then moved onto the Supreme Courts (with a quick stop at the Anzac Memorial) where they deal with Civil Law and then onto another court that was dealing with a Criminal Law case. It had a jury and witnesses and some of the Legal Studies students were lucky enough to watch some of this proceeding. After lunch, it was time for our weary travellers to go home! We all arrived home ready for a sleep in our own beds. Thanks to: Lachlan, Jordan, Victoria, Katelyn, Jesse, Taylor, Kaitlyn, Heidi and Delaynie who all showed a great deal of maturity and empathy over the two days. Also to their parents for driving them into Orange for the early start and late finish! On behalf of myself and Mr Keen, we would like to say how proud we are of our students. Everyone was polite, gracious and supportive of each other over two long, emotional days. It was a pleasure to take such a great group of students on this trip and we hope to see more Stage 6 students choosing humanities subjects, such as Legal Studies and Modern History in the future so we can continue to share in these wonderful experiences. Welcome Back to Term 2 A big welcome back to everyone to a brand new
term. I hope everyone had a restful holiday.
This term has already started with a bang with
sporting teams madly training for upcoming
events. This term we will also hold our annual
Cross Country and Athletics Carnivals with the
whole school being involved this year.
Students will also be involved in Public Speaking
and debating events and Years 3 and 5 will
participate in the Naplan testing in May.
Students will also be busily finish assessments
within the classroom so that Semester 1 reports
can be completed. So once again, A Busy Term!!!!!

Cadia Valley Operations Open Day Saturday 14 May 2016
Experience firsthand the surface mining operations of one of Australia’s largest underground gold mines at the Cadia Valley Operations Open Day. On the 2.5 hour guided bus tours visitors will see sweeping views of the open cut lookout, get up close to super-sized mining machinery, visit CVO’s ore processing plant and glimpse into the future at the rehabilitation and Tailings dam. This year, the Open Day will be run exclusively out of the Orange Showground and will be held in conjunction with the Orange Farmers Market so visitors will be able to enjoy a wide variety or regional produce, markets, music and food. Buses will depart display centre at Orange Showground every 10 mins from 8:30am - 2pm for an onsite surface mine tour.
