One of the goals of Central’s 2015 Stewardship Campaign was to add a new staff position - that of Parish Visitor. The rationale for this new staff position is that our congregation is aging, and we already have a good number of folks who live in nursing homes, assisted living or who are shut-in. Working with the Pas-tor, the Parish Visitor would do some of the visitation, and also work with the Deacons and others to help us do more caring ministry for the sick, elderly and hurting in our congregation. After a search and interviews to fill this position, the Personnel Committee made its recommendation to Session. I am delighted to announce that Session has called Deb Mummert to be Central’s Minister of Visit-ation (Session also decided to change the job title to reflect better the purpose of the position). Deb is a trained Stephen Minister, an ordained Ruling Elder, and has gained extensive experience in caring for oth-ers both through Stephen Ministry and her role as MDO Director. She’ll be great in this ministry. Deb will be leaving her position as Director of Central’s Mother’s Day Out ministry on May 8th and be-ginning service as Minister of Visitation on or around May 11th . I personally am grateful for Deb’s16 years of dedicated service to MDO. Her new office will be located in the room around the corner from the church parlor, next to the Finance Administrator’s Office. Please be in prayer for Deb as she begins this challenging new ministry. This of course creates a vacancy for the Director of Mother’s Day Out. The MDO Board has begun search-ing for a new director. If you are interested in applying, or know someone who is, please contact MDO Board Chairman Jim Sharp at [email protected] or 446-1567.
The past 6 years the Lord has lead me more and more
into using my spiritual gifts for personal, caring min-
istry. Since becoming a Stephen Minister in 2009, I
have experienced the deaths of three MDO parents
and have walked others through some very difficult
times, all from my office on the third floor. I truly
believe God had a plan in mind when I came to MDO
16 years ago as a substitute teacher and He used my
position as MDO Director to prepare me for this new
path in my life.
I want to thank each one of my Central Church family
for all the thoughts, prayers and support you have giv-
en me as Director of MDO. It is going to be hard to
step away but I know God is in control and He’ll pro-
vide just the right person to take my place.
Please continue to pray for MDO and also for me as I
begin serving the Lord and this church in this new
capacity as Minister of Visitation.
Blessings, Deb Mummert
Dear Central Family,
Over the past few years as Director of MDO, I have
felt God calling me to another form of ministry. I
wasn’t sure what or where but I knew He had some-
thing for me to do and He was leading me to it.
Through prayer and reflection I realized that, in or-
der to fulfill His plans for me, it may not be possi-
ble for me to continue with MDO. That was a hard
one.
I began in September knowing in my heart that this
would most likely be my last year and I told the
MDO board that was a possibility. It never occurred
to me that God could be leading me into something
else within Central. In fact, even as I worked on the
video presentation for stewardship where Pastor
Scott talked about the need for a Parish Visitor, it
never crossed my mind to inquire about it. It wasn’t
until early in February that, during a time of prayer,
the Lord put it on my heart to apply should the op-
portunity arise.
Church Family Thank you....
Dear Central Family,
God is so good and his answer so complete for Wen-
dy Birdsong (my daughter) and Samuel Lopez (her
husband)! They have been staying at friends' homes
since March 31st and now expect to move into a sin-
gle home closer to work (for both). Plus, their car
was fixed and the insurance company didn't require
them to pay the deductible since they had the physical
license plate left from the car that the hit-and-run
driver had. The car is repaired, and they now have
until the 15th when they move in. Thanks be to God!
Exulting in his love, Bonnie Fortuna
After a long battle with heart disease, my brother,
Gary Burkholder, passed away April 25. Please pray
for his family during this time. I would like to thank
everyone for your prayers and support.
God Bless you, Karen Sloan and family
Dear Central,
Thank you for lifting my son and me in your prayers.
I am blessed because of my church family.
Thank you, Susan Snyder
Thank you Pat and Karl Shreiner for the beautiful
flower arrangement you gave me from the church
on Sun, April 12. They were lovely and I deeply
appreciate your generosity as well as all the kind
wishes from the congregation on the paper that
accompanied them. May God bless every one of
you.
Gratefully with love, Helen Wingert
I wish to thank the Shreiner’s for the lovely flow-
ers on April 12th. The Children’s Ministry has
touched so many young lives for Jesus and I love
doing it. But, I couldn’t do it alone, there are so
many dedicated “helpers” that without them, it
wouldn’t be possible. Again, thank you all for your
support and love.
God bless, Sandy Wilson
To my friends and family at Central,
Many thanks for your prayers and support during
my recent illness and surgery. Thanks to Pastor
Scott for his hospital visits and from Sandy Myers
for her visits too. All your love was strongly felt!
In Christ’s love, George Cowley

Giving Opportunity! The Wednesday Morning Women's Bible Study is walking to support a mission project and we invite you to join in! When we spend 15 minutes doing a physical activity, we count that as a mile and we donate to our projects for every "mile" we exer-cise. This session we are supporting a child for a year at the Presbyterian sponsored Joy Children's Village in Kenya and the Diaper Ministry at Central. For more information, please see Jean Diehl or Laurie McKelvie.
Central Presbyterian is having a golf tournament to raise money to benefit the fight against Human Trafficking. We have some “hot spots” right in our community and a “hub” in Carlisle. We hope you will pass the word and help us make our efforts count. Our tourna-ment will be held on August 23, 2015, at Penn National Iron Forge golf course with a shot-gun start at 1:00 p.m. We can put a brochure in your mailbox if you call or email us. We need help in obtaining many sponsors at$1,000, $500, $300 and $200 levels; cart sponsors, $50; advertisers for $100 (full page), and $50 (half page)); players (120+); door prizes and volunteers to make it all happen. See brochure for details. Carol and Phil Rohr (717-261-6083) are the co-chairs for this event. They are available for all questions; just give them a call or email [email protected]. We urge the community of Central Presbyterian, Franklin County, and surrounding areas to get involved. We need indi-viduals and companies to come forward and help for us to be successful. We want to have a fun day for a great cause. Let’s swing into action!
Are you tired of carrying around your checkbook? Do you never have cash with you? Jesus is the best news of all, but we have secondary good news: it is now possible to give/tithe online! Just go to www.centralonthesquare.org and click the Donate icon. If you have any problems, see Don Wissner or Erin Regan and they will be glad to help you out.
Are you a reader? Like to talk about what you’ve read? Willing to read books, “you’d never read”? Do you know that CPC has a Book Group that usually meets the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00pm in the Church Parlor. Come to a meeting and see/hear what it is all about. Have a book that you think should be read? Come and suggest it. We look forward to you joining us May 6th as we delve into A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson. For more information please call Karl Shreiner at 717-263-4891.

Sunday School Missions! Jesus’ love in action!
Our Sunday School children tied fleece blankets
to give to the two Navajo brothers we support
each month. Zach and Lakota live at the Four
Corners Home for Children – a vital part of
Navajo Ministries in Farmington, NM. Eve-
ry week, our children pray for Zach and Lakota.
They also bring in offering money which we
send monthly to help with their support.
I had the privilege of going to Navajo Ministries to
help with an annual fund raising banquet held on April
16. Praise God – over $40,000 was raised for the Mis-
sion! I was able to take the blankets our Sunday School
children made and give them to Zach and Lakota. It was
great to have a chance to see the boys at their school on
the mission grounds, meet their house parents, and visit
with them in their home. The central part of the home is
in the shape of a traditional Navajo hogan, with living
quarters branching off to each side. Check out their web-
site at www.NavajoMinistries.org; or talk to me for
more info about this mission we support!

April was quite a month for us as a youth group!
We started off the year participating in a MAJOR way in the Good
Friday “Experience the Passion of Christ” service, then cel-
ebrated Easter through sound, slides, dance, and song to
finish up Holy Week powerfully! To God be all glory,
honor, and praise!
On April 12th and 19th, the Middlers created their own bar-
bershop quartets and celebrated National Garlic Day before diving deep into Jesus’ ques-
tions to His disciples in the book of Mark. The Highers joined the Middlers for silly games
during combined time, then went on to an in-depth study of Samson from the book of Judg-
es.
April 26th was this year’s Youth Sunday and we are SO PROUD of our young people for
leading us into such meaningful, beautiful, and vibrant worship! That night, we attended the
Salt ‘n’ Light youth rally in Waynesboro, PA – and God said April was “good”.
The Higher Sunday School class, with Scott and Madeline Wilson, just started a new series
called ‘Nooma’. This powerful study is insightful and inviting for all ages, but we believe
the high schooler's will benefit greatly from it!
The High School Girls’ Bible Study group is finishing up its “Critical Decisions” study and
is moving on to “Authentic Relationships: Being Real in an Artificial World”.
Coming up:
May 3rd 2-4:45pm, Middler boys’ hike with Bill Oyler
May 5th 7-8pm, Mission Trip meeting in youth lounge
May 31st 5-7:30pm, Graduation/End-of-the-Year Pool Party at the Ott household!
CONTEMPORARY WORSHIP:
On behalf of the praise band, dance team, drama team, tech team,
and all involved in making Holy Week so special, thank you to the
congregation for your support and prayers. We love you.
On behalf of the congregation, thank you to all involved in making
worship what it is every week, but especially in Holy Week. Your
time, energy, and talents are appreciated!
Coming up:
Praise Band rehearsals Wednesdays at 5:30pm
Dance team rehearsals Tuesday May 12th and 19th 7pm
Music Appreciation Sunday May 17th 9:30am (contemporary) and 11am (traditional)
Make sure you check our website weekly to find out what we’re going to be singing each Sunday!
