I would like to thank everybody (students, teachers and par-

Cross Country – Wednesday 19th April!
As discussed in the last edition of the newsletter the date of the Cross Country has been changed
as a result of the Moonee Ponds Creek walkway being closed (from March 20th) due to the
Tullamarine Freeway widening project. The event will now be held on Wednesday 19th March. We
are still needing more parent helpers. If you can help on this day please put your name down on
the list in the office.
Regional Swimming Carnival
After some amazing results by our students at the district swimming carnival; we had Hamish
Keenan represent the school at the regional level in Geelong yesterday. Hamish won his 50 m
breaststroke event with a personal best time. He also came second in the freestyle (with another
PB) and then in the backstroke came third. Well done Hamish, we look forward to hearing about
the next stage at the state championships next term.
Transition to Secondary School
The dates and process for the transition of students from primary to secondary school have been
set up by the Department of Education and Training (DET) and all year six students will receive the
following information.
I encourage all families to do research regarding school choices for your children. Internet search-
es, visiting open days and tours are also highly recommended. It’s important that each family
takes the time to make their decision based on their child’s individual needs.
The list of local secondary schools includes:
Once all students have been allocated secondary schools, students will attend their confirmed
state secondary school for an orientation day on the 12th of December.
During first week of term two all year 6 students will receive:
a letter from the Regional Director Sharyn Donald,
information sheets (including Frequently Asked Questions)
a preference form
This documentation will explain the process and timeline for applying for secondary schools.
The preference form will need to be returned to Moonee Ponds Primary School no later than
Friday 12th May.

Attitudes to School Survey
Our school is conducting a survey to find out what your child thinks of our school. The Attitudes to
School survey is an annual survey for Years 4 to 12 students offered by the Department of Education
and Early Childhood Development. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. Our school will use the survey results to plan
programs and activities to improve your child's experience at school.
Students in Year 4, 5 and 6 will participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are
anonymous. This year the Attitudes to School survey will be conducted at our school over the
period 22nd May to 23rd June. The survey only takes 20-30 minutes to complete and occurs during
your child's class time.
2018 Foundation enrolment
Our school tours are in full swing and enrolment forms are coming in. I encourage all current
families with children ready to start Foundation next year to please get a form and hand it in to the
office before the end of April to ensure we can hold a place for your child..

Foundation level have all received a cup of fruit salad during their final lesson this week. The
students have been learning about the Fundamental Motor Skill of Run and learnt to play a
new game called fruit salad’.
Students from levels 1 to 6 have been participating in a unit of Hot Shots Tennis and to
celebrate their achievements for this term, each year level has been allocated a day to
use the equipment during lunchtimes to have a hit with their friends.
Wishing all the students and their families a lovely holidays and a great Easter.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
MPPS has been a Nude Food School for several years. This was an initiative approved by
school council and forms part of our commitment to create awareness about the need to
reduce waste and to encourage responsible stewardship of the earth’s resources. Achieving
these aims largely relies on the support of the parent community for continued success.
We ask ALL students, to aim for ZERO rubbish. This is achieved by the use of containers, and
what are now readily available lunchboxes, for this specific purpose.
We understand that this is not always possible, so ask that if students bring snacks generating
rubbish that the rubbish goes home with lunchboxes.
There is regular and ongoing discussion about nude food, and recognition of class nude food
champions. Awards are given at school assemblies to students seen to be upholding our en-
deavours.
There will be an expanded focus on our Nude Food policy throughout 2017. Class waste will
be regularly monitored and prizes awarded to classes showing the greatest effort.
Please help support this policy when preparing school lunches.
Below is a link we hope will provide some inspiration:

The Green Team are looking for interested parents to work with
in our efforts to promote sustainability at MPPS.
If you think that this has some appeal for you and you have a
little time to spare, we are looking for some help with a range
of jobs which include:
Fundraising
Grant writing
Cooking
Harvesting
Green team working bees
Care of chickens over the holidays
It is envisaged that we will set up an email mailing list to keep in touch and share the load.
If you would like to help, please email your contact details, email address and phone
number to [email protected] and let me know what areas you are able
to assist with.
Thanks in advance

WALKING SCHOOL BUS NEWS
Now that the school year is well underway and the students are more settled, why not ‘jump on board’ or volunteer with the Walking School Bus. It only requires giving up a morning a week (or less, if you can get a group of ‘drivers’ together and rotate your duties!). Last week the Victoria St walking school bus (departing from the corner of Victoria and Daly st, Brunswick West, at 8.20am, on Monday mornings) recommenced. If any students would like to see what it is like they are welcome to walk with their parent/guardian until they feel comfortable walking with the group. Please don’t hesitate to contact me should you require further information or are in-terested in volunteering. Information can also be found on the school app and website (in the parent download section). Sarah J. on 0418 524 126 ([email protected])
