I am delighted that this term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices. More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au

The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. More than 6,300 schools in Australia and around the world have used Tell Them From Me to survey 5.4 million students. Capturing the voices of our students will help improve how we do things at our school.

I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours between 11 March and 12 April. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary.

A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the survey is being sent home with students. If you do not want your child or children to participate, please return the form to school by Monday 11th March. Copies of the form and FAQs are available from: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents.

It was wonderful to see so many visitors in our school over the last couple of weeks. We thank you for taking the time out of a busy schedule to sit with your child’s teacher to talk about learning. The students greatly benefit by hearing conversations about setting goals, and knowing that they have the support and encouragement from both home and school. If you were not able to make an appointment at this time, please contact the school so that the teacher can schedule an alternative meeting.

We had our first whole school assembly last week, with many of our students receiving their badge of office for the year. Our first group of ‘Llandilo Legends’ were also presented with their badges and certificates. There was true support and pride for these students (plus one teacher), who embody our school values of respect, responsibility and personal best. Congratulations to all! I look forward to this being a highlight of our whole school assemblies twice a term.

At the end of this week, Mrs Filipo will commence her maternity leave. I’d like to thank her for her contributions to Llandilo in the short time before her leave and look forward to some good news in a few weeks time. Ms Shelley Huang will be taking over Mrs Filipo’s role and another new staff member, Mr Michael Farrugia, will be one of our learning support teachers. I’d also just like to let everyone know that Mrs de Kretser will be remaining on Everest for the rest of the year as their classroom teacher.

Attached to this email is some information about the ‘School Community Charter’, recently issued by the Department of Education. This document outlines ways in which

the school and its families can interact in a positive and respectful manner. I’d appreciate you looking through the document. If there are issues to be raised, please contact the school to speak to the appropriate person.

This year, we are looking at sprucing up our school environment with additional gardens, vegie patch, shade areas, signage and hopefully, some murals. At the front of the school, we would like to make a bit of an eclectic looking garden by using recycled materials for the garden beds. So if you have any old wheelbarrows, drums, small metal garbage bins or any other receptacle that could be used for a garden bed and would look good with a bright coat of spray paint, please call the office and let us know.

Yours in learning

The

Splash-down On Thursday 28th February, swimmers

from our school took part in the Penrith Zone swimming

carnival. It was a hot and sunny day, perfect weather for

jumping in the pool! Each of our students competed by trying

their personal best and represented Llandilo Public School with

pride. They should all be congratulated for their efforts.

On Friday the 15th of March, Llandilo Public School will be holding a Legends "Say No" to Bullying Day. Students will participate in their regular Friday morning routines, where after recess, the whole school will come together to begin a series of activities. The activities involved will

support National Day Against Bullying, as well as Positive Behaviour for Learning.

Families are invited to participate from 11:25am and are welcomed to stay for a picnic lunch with their children, followed by a whole school event!

We hope to see you there,

Miss Sant, Mr Vella and the PBL team.

LEARNING LINKS – CYBER SAFETY

Over the past few weeks, the dangers associated with social

media and a range of technology apps and platforms have

been highlighted by the media. The National Online Safety website has various

information pages to explain popular apps, games and platforms and the risks

associated with them for our children. Please note that the contact details shown are

for America. For more information please look at:

https://nationalonlinesafety.com/resources/platform-guides/

The Australian Government has also released information regarding e-safety. Here is

another valuable link which has a screen smart tour for parents but also a game for

students to play to demonstrate resilience, respect and empathy.

Just a reminder to pack a library bag on your child’s library day. Children will need a bag to borrow from the library. Any type of library bag or a plastic shopping bag will do. Dakoda in Great Barrier Reef was excited to show us her new library bag.

We’ve been busy preparing for the book fair on March 21st which will be held in the library. Please stop by and help support our school as all the funds raised on the day go straight back into the library.

In Loch Ness…

with Mrs Goss and

her awesome class of

Year 1 and 2 students.

In Loch Ness, we have fun playing circle champion because it makes our brains sweaty! We

enjoy using the computers to help us learn how to use technology with confidence. During

literacy groups, we complete large floor puzzles as it helps us learn how to work together

as a team and takes us around 5 minutes to construct the puzzle. It’s fun when we do art

because we are using paint to learn how to mix colours.

White + red = pink

Yellow + red = orange

White + blue = light blue

Yellow + blue = green

Red + blue = purple

Last week, we walked around the school looking at all of the

classrooms, trees and the playground to find shapes. We can

name different shapes based on how many corners and edges they have, eg, an 8

sided shape is called an octagon, it has 8 sides just like an octopus has 8 tentacles.

We have fun in our reading corner, reading about dinosaurs with

Super Sparkles. There are also 23 friendly Loch Knees, and 1

friendly Loch Ness monster our favourite, friendly classroom

mascot!

We have already started rehearsing for our class assembly in

week 9, it will be a great adventure! We hope you will enjoy our assembly item, we are

practising really hard!

From all of us in Loch Ness, we hope you have enjoyed reading about our class.

Voluntary School Contribution

Each year we ask parents to make a

voluntary contribution of $25 per

student. These contributions go

towards purchasing equipment for the students

to use in their daily school life. Please note that

this is entirely voluntary and is not compulsory.

Sports Report ….. Addison & Nathan - Denbigh

On Wednesday the 5th of March students from K to

4 were invited to attend the Aus Kick program. When we asked if they

had lots of fun the Kindergarten students shared their excitement by

loudly saying “YES!”. The students loved that they were shown how to

throw, catch and kick a ball. Many of them enjoyed being able to work in

a team and play games.

We need your help!

We are looking for donations of old wheelbarrows, metal

bins and tubs and other items that we can use for rustic planter boxes

for our garden. We appreciate all help and support.
