RIVERPHY RIVERBED PROGRESS
2
In the pictures can be observed the degree of favorable growth of the implanted and
spontaneous vegetal biomass in the riverbed after 7, 8, 9 and 10 months after the cleaning
and harvesting of vegetation. The growth of the autochthonous vegetation is markedly
higher than the vegetation implanted from the nursery which little by little establishes and
develops its roots in the dry riverbed.

APPLICATIONS OF NATURAL CHELATING AGENTS ANDMICROORGANISMS IN EXPERIMENTAL PLOTS
3
The last application of natural chelating agents
(oxalic acid and citric acid) and microorganisms
(Pseudomonas fluorescens bacteria and amino
acids) in the experimental plots was carried out
in June 2017.
From June 2016 to June 2017 a total of 5
applications have been realized. Each application
was carried out every three months and
according to the weather conditions.
The biweekly soil samplings in the plots will
conclude in September 2017 (27 soil samplings
in total). The last annual soil and plant sampling
in the experimental plots will be carry out in
October 2017. After sampling, the plant and soil
samples will be processed and analyzed to make
the final report of the project.
Pictures of the applications and the biweekly soil
samplings in the experimental plots are shown
(stretches 1, 2 and 3 respectively).

FIELD INSPECTIONS
4
Between January and August 2017, 14 fields inspections were carried out (6 inspections between
May and August 2017) with the objective of checking the tasks related to the execution of actions
B.2 (phytoextraction project), B.3 (slope project), B.4 (energy use of contaminated biomass), B.5
(evolution of soil and vegetation) and B.6 (environmental recovery and landscape design):
•Cleaning, cutting and harvesting of plant biomass
•Harvesting and grinding of plant biomass
•Transport (and the necessary documentations) of plant biomass from the riverbed to the
treatment plant for its incineration
•Development of the implanted and spontaneous vegetation
•Emergency irrigations
The field inspections are carried out mainly by personnel from the Dirección General de Medio
Ambiente (DGMA) and also by the staff of the Lorca City Council (Ayto Lorca), the Confederación
Hidrográfica del Segura (CHS), the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT) and by the
contracted companies of each task.

EMERGENCY IRRIGATION, SUMMER 2017
5
An emergency irrigation of the vegetation implanted in stretches 1, 2 and 3 (including the
experimental plots) has been carried out between July and August 2017 due to the weather
conditions (June-August 2017 average):
Precipitation (mm): 0.5
T (°C): 25.5
Evotranspiration rate (mm): 181

PLANT BIOMASS
6
The planned month for the transport of plant
biomass from the riverbed to the Holcim treatment
plant (Almería) was March 2017, at which time the
plant biomass samples were analyzed by the
company and received a favorable approval for its
entry into the plant. This transport could not be
carried out due to a temporary closure of the
treatment plant and to a subsequent excess of input
raw material.
The plant biomass from stretches 1, 2 and 3 of
Riverphy riverbed will be transported to the
treatment plant for incineration next September
2017.
Currently, all the documentation on the residue
(plant biomass) is ready
by the DGMA and the Ayto Lorca
and we are waiting for the company to confirm us
the date of entry of the residue.

INTERPRETATIVE ITINERARY
7
Last May 2017, the contract for the execution of the interpretive itinerary was awarded by the
Ayto Lorca.
The first performance was the installation of a security fence of 200 m length in the Zorrolobo
road. The Zorrolobo road is located parallel to the dry Guadalentín riverbed (right side) and this
way is where technical visits begin. At the end of this road is possible to enter in the riverbed
(after approximately 200 m).
