Labour Weekend Art Exhibition – Artists Profile

We received a lot of comments about the wall catalogues used during the Easter Art Exhibition instead of the

traditional hand held catalogue. The majority of art lovers saw them as a positive move. For the and asked for

them to be displayed at eye level. This we will do. They also wanted more information about the exhibiting

artists. To meet these requests and to make it easier for exhibiting artists the following template has been

designed for use during the Labour Weekend Exhibition. A photo can be added, contact details, and anything

else artists think our art lovers would find informative. The profiles can be sent to the WAS email address and

we can laminate it for you.

This is a miniature sample of the profile.

A Letter from Jo Frederiks about ‘Colour in your Life’, a tv show about

showcasing artists

If any Wanaka Arts Society members are interested, please contact Jo Frederiks directly at [email protected] Have you heard of the TV show on Artists in their studios called ‘Colour In Your Life’? It is an educational and inspirational TV series showing visual artists painting in their own studios and demonstrating their unique creative talent and sharing their passion. We are committed to getting artists into the public eye. One artist is chosen to be showcased per 24-minute episode, which is aired on free to view TV in America, The UK and New Zealand and can be seen on over 150 stations in 23 States across America via PBS community channels. The show is also up loaded to multiple video streaming websites across the world. The show has been running for 6 years in Australia and New Zealand and we are currently expanding into the USA, the UK, India and European markets and as such are looking for talented visual artists (both emerging and established) to showcase their talent on the next series. We will be working with Eric Rhoads this year. Eric is one of the leading Art promoters in the U.S and has Art Magazines, radio stations and conventions on Art right across America. We are also working with major Art manufactures and suppliers as well right across the globe. If you are not familiar with ‘Colour In Your Life’ and you’d like to take a look, you can view the episodes on our website https://www.colourinyourlife.com.au/tv-show/ We effectively promote Artists on a global platform and the career advancements, exposure and benefits the artist receive after being featured on the show are phenomenal. We are heading back to film in New Zealand, so if you’re interested in learning more about the show, the opportunities available and our upcoming filming schedule please drop me a line and I’ll be happy to discuss this with you. There is an application process in order to be selected as a ‘Staring Artist’ and ideally, to meet selection criteria all interested artists are encouraged to have a web and social media presence. There is a production cost to be involved in the show however the testimonials after 5 years of filming prove the amazing returns each artist has received by doing this. You might also be interested in subscribing to our YouTube Channel to see an amazing new artist featured every week for free at https://www.youtube.com/c/ColourinyourlifeAu All the best, Jo

A Pablo Picasso Quote

Library Cabinet

The beautiful cabinet located in the Wanaka Library was generously donated by Phyllis Aspinall, a beautiful

embroiderer and life member of the Wanaka Embroiderer’s Guild. It is thought that the original intent was to

display selected embroidery for the enjoyment of library users and members of the public. It is now being

managed by the Wanaka Arts Society and Jo Underwood has assumed responsibility for coordinating the display

of work in the cabinet . . . but she cannot do it without your assistance. Please contact her at

[email protected] so that the cabinet represents the wide variety of the amazing art that is being

created in the local area.

Edinburgh Reality Premier Art Awards

The Otago Art Society are accepting entries for their Edinburgh Reality Premier Art Awards which will run from

5 August – 3 September 2017 in the Dunedin Railway station. If you are interested, please contact

[email protected]. First Prize $3000, Second Prize $2000, Third Prize $1000, Merit Prize $500, Peoples

Choice $500 and Edinburgh Award $500. Entries close 4pm Friday 21 July

An Opportunity

The Arts Society has been approached by the Village Coordinator of the Wanaka Retirement Village regarding

showing works of art in their communal lounge. They are a small retirement village owned by Presbyterian

Support, in Meadowstone Drive, right behind Elmslie House. Their enquiry is this;

“Our communal lounge, the Pembroke Lounge, has wall space for one or two works of art but we don't want to

buy anything that Villagers would tire of. There doesn't appear to be any art hire service in Central Otago.

Would any of your members like to use this display area on a rotation basis? The lounge is well used, however, there is no guarantee any of the works would sell.”

Villagers would bring their visitors to see the works and they would be promoted in the centre newsletters.

Contact Su Anderson on 03 443 4474 or [email protected] for further details.

Wanaka Library

The Wanaka library are currently planning their poetry month events for August, and are working with the theme of Poetry Power through words and art. They would love a display of local art in the library for the month of August and are interested to hear from society member keen to participate.

They are also working on a project for Poetry month involving chalk words and art along the

footpath on Dunmore St, from Helwick St to the library. Are there society members interested in

participating in this?

If you’re interested in either of the above events

contact Eve Marshall-Lea at Wanaka library;
