During that time I will be travelling back home to Charters Towers. While I am away, Gary Pascoe will become Acting Princi- pal, Pauline Newton will become Acting Depu- ty and Trina Murphy will become Acting Mas- ter Teacher. I know that these staff members will take on these Acting Roles in a very com- petent manner. I thank them for willingly tak- ing on these roles. SCHOOL REPORT CARDS AND PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS As the Units in (C2C) conclude at the end of Term 2, Report Cards and Parent Teacher Interviews will be held during the beginning of Term 3. During Week Two and Three of Term 3, the week beginning 20 July, Parent/Teacher Interviews will be held and report cards will be issued during the interview. A special note for Parent/Teacher Interview times was sent home last week. If you haven’t received this note please contact the School Office. JUNE SCHOOL HOLIDAYS The year has certainly flown and the June School Holiday Break is nearly upon us. School closes for the holidays on Friday 26 June at 3.00pm and school resumes on Monday 13 July. This is my last newsletter for Term 2. FREE DRESS DAY Our Free Dress Day for Term 2 will be held on the last day of Term, Friday 26 June. Could students please bring along a gold coin. Payment is due before lessons commence. No late payments received. We accept payment in full OR by instalments. Contact the school if you would like to com- mence a payment plan. SCHOOL MUSICAL This year our Musical is: Cinderella Rockerfella. The Musical will involve students from Years 4-6. During the last couple of weeks I have conducted auditions for the major speaking parts for the school musical. Yesterday the successful students were announced. Next week I will give these students an information sheet for their parents to read and sign, to say that they are willing to allow their child to par- ticipate in the musical. What this means is that they are agreeing to the commitment that is involved in being part of the musical. Students in Years 4, 5 and 6 who didn’t obtain a speaking part will all be involved in chorus items. They will also receive a special note next week as I need to know if students are allowed to participate in the musical, so I can be organized with numbers when I am setting the large scenes. The Musical “Cinderella Rockerfella” will be held at the HIGH- FIELDS CULTURAL CENTRE on Thursday 17 September. As next Term progresses, there will be more notes about costumes and other requests for help. We are all excited about the forthcoming musical and I know that you will enjoy the musical when we present it at the Highfields Cultural Centre. DOGS Dogs are NOT permitted on school grounds - even those on a leash. Very occasionally I will grant Permission for a dog to be on site if it is involved in a classroom learning activity or when Run Around Australia is happening. But for the main, parents are NOT permitted to bring their dogs on school grounds when drop- ping off and collecting children. The reasons are as follows: a. There is always a risk of a dog toileting and this becomes a health risk for students. b. Managing the complaints of other parents who tend to report such matters to me. c. Dogs causing harm to students or other members of our school community FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS SS website address is: http://www.fairheigss.eq.edu.au

CHAPLAINCY Some parents have approached me regarding Chaplaincy Sponsorship. We would love parents or Fairview Heights Community members to consider supporting our Chaplain-cy on a regular basis. We have attached to today’s news-letter a Sponsorship form if anyone is interested in doing that. At the top of the form is the postal address to return this form or if you would like our school to return the form on your behalf, please return the form to the School Office. We look forward to our community considering regular sup-port of our Chaplaincy.

EVERY DAY COUNTS The holidays are fast approaching. While it may be tempt-ing to let your child stay home for the last day or even the last week of term, our school would prefer to see every child on every day of every term. We strongly believe chil-dren need to attend school every day to receive the most benefits from their education. Did you realise that skipping the last day of every term adds up to more than a whole term of schooling missed throughout a child’s education? Skipping a whole week of school each term means your child will miss more than 15 months of their education! For further information on the importance of regular school at-tendance, please visit www.education.qld.gov.au/everydaycounts/posters.html

KEEP A WATCH ON OUR SCHOOL THESE

HOLIDAYS With the holidays fast approaching, we need you to look out for after-hours crime in your school. If you see anything suspicious call the School Watch on 13 17 88. The School Watch Program is a partnership between the department and the State Government Protective Security Service. It aims to reduce vandalism, theft and arson in schools. Call the School Security Program on 3237 0874 for more info. www.oneportal.deta.qld.gov.au/Services/Facilities/Forms/Documents/Endoftermsecuritychecklist.pdf

Our team of 5: Jaymie Macleod, Zaine Peasley, Georgia Wright, Jade Hodkinson & Kynan Smith competed in the regional compe-

on at Fairholme College this week, parcipang in a quiz of detailed quesons from 5 challenging novels. Students read these books

across the term, meeng for weekly discussions and quiz sessions, then competed against 20 teams from across the Darling Downs,

with teams coming from as far afield as Goondiwindi. We made a bold finish in the top cluster of schools, with very ght scores, com-

ing in at 8th. We achieved a score of 54, with few points between the top cluster of teams. Our students looked very impressive in

their formal year 6 shirts, drawing comments from other schools about our outstanding uniform. They carried themselves with pride

and were wonderful ambassadors for our school. It was a great evening and this group of readers was a joy to work with. May they

go on to bigger and be1er things!

We have had lots of Students shopping this week for rewards which is fantastic!! Congratulations to all of the Students showing positive behaviour at Fairview Heights State School! Thank you to all of our Parents and Carers who continue to talk about our Behaviour Expectations (PODS) at home.

Last week we saw two of our Year 1 Students, Ameleah-Paige Miller and Jake Guymer , enjoy lunch with their special friends Theo Aston and Nichalis Beezley at the PODS Table. This is a huge achievement for these Students, as it takes lots of PODS Stamps to receive this reward. Well Done Ameleah-Paige and Jake!! Mr Pascoe and Mrs Raitelli also joined in the fun!

Next Friday 26 th June, we are rewarding our Students who keep displ aying our Whole School Be-haviour Expectations (Practising Safety, Overall Respect, Demonstrating Learning, Showing Re-

sponsibility) with an ‘End of Term Celebration’. We will be holding Discos for our Lower, Middle and Upper Students in the Hall, throughout the day. Lots of dancing and games will be had and a special treat will be given to each Student upon the conclusion of each Disco.

The focus of recent PBL Expectations has been

Practising Safety “Out of Bounds” & “Walk Bikes & Scooters within Sch ool Grounds”

Showing Responsibility “Be Prompt when leaving the School Grounds”

NEWSPAPERS

The wheelie bins located at the front of the school are our collection point for Newspapers. This is raising funds for sporting equipment etc. It is so easy to do - put your newspaper in the bins and the D & S paper company PAYS the school for the Newspapers. Many thanks to the families that are sending their newspaper to Fairview for recycling.
