  • Excursions and Projects

The cultural highlight of every semester is the trip of all ITK students to Germany’s capital Berlin. The top destinations of this trip were the Olympic Stadium, Charlottenburg Palace, the Reichstag building and the Brandenburg Gate. Throughout their stay in Leipzig, participants also had the opportunity to watch and analyze live sporting events of various competition classes on field trips in their specific discipline.

ITK Football participants found matches of youth and professional teams on their agenda. They watched 1st league home matches of RB Leipzig in the Red Bull Arena and observed matches of the SFV school football tournament. ITK football participants also acted as referees during the school cup in Soccerworld Leipzig, together with the ITK sports management students they visited the upper league team BSG Chemie. The ITK football students were able to put acquired knowledge into practice during classes with primary school pupils of Lessingschule. The varied list

of field trips was completed by observations of junior female players at RB Leipzig and the female team of SG Olympia.

This semester ITK Track & Field students benefited from Sven Lang’s expertise in throwing events – after all he is the German national coach for female and male shot put. The most important events for Track & Field participants were the Hallesche Werfertage and the German U23 Championships in Wetzlar where they also met students of the DLV Auslandstrainerakademie (Academy for Foreign Coaches of the DLV). In addition they also observed numerous competitions in Leipzig. (Photo: Christian Gustedt)

ITK Sports for the Disabled participants could not only prove their skills during a friendly match in Sitting Volleyball against the BVL but also in a Wheelchair Basketball match against the RSL. One highlight of the term was certainly the Youth Länder Cup of the German Youth in Sports for the Disabled (Behindertensportjugend DBSJ) in Breitenbrunn where participants could see athletes competing in Para-table tennis, Para-swimming, Para-judo and Para-athletics.

Several Nations League matches of the German men’s team were on the agenda of ITK Volleyball participants, notably the match of Germany versus acting World Champions Poland. In addition they watched the relegation match of the men’s team and their promotion to the second national league as well as league games and training sessions of the L.E. Volleys Leipzig. The SSVB invited our students for a tour of their administrative office and an open discussion of Germany‘s club culture. Together with participants of the ITK Sports for the Disabled course and the Leipzig

Sitting Volleyball Players, the students could make new experience in a Sitting Volleyball tournament. In addition, they acted as referees during the “Jugend trainiert für Olympia” school competition and the Saxon Championships for children and adolescents.

After the successful first edition of the children’s version of the Internationales Sportfest in cooperation with the Lessingschule Leipzig, ITK Sports Management students organized the second edition of this event. Held on the Olympic Day, the event aimed at introducing Paralympic disciplines to pupils and adults who were excited to try some of those disciplines. During a 2-day excursion to Dresden, ITK students also visited two multi-sports clubs, namely SV Motor Mickten and DSC Dresden, that gave them insights into their club organization, membership management and

current projects. Part of this excursion was also to visit the pro-club Dynamo Dresden, where the students were introduced, among others, to the academy for young players and its day-to-day processes. Another highlight of the semester was surely to get introduced to the club BSG Chemie, jointly with the students of ITK Football. Prior to that the club had invited the students to watch the club’s promotion match, so that the student also got the chance to experience the fan culture at the stadium very closely.

  • ITK Pathfinder Program Benin 2019

From 4 to 17 February the ITK Pathfinder Program Benin 2019 took place on the initiative of ITK graduate Aldo Rigis Gnonlonfoun. Under the direction of ITK lecturer Daniel Andrä, 30 coaches, P.E. teachers and staff from various local clubs benefited from sessions on personal development in sports, children’s handball and project organization. For the first time ITK graduates contributed to the content of the program as guest speakers. The training seminar was a successful collaboration of the INJEPS (National Institute for the Education and Sport Physique), the University of Abomey-Calavie (UAC) and the Handball

Association of Benin. On the basis of this seminar, the partners are now jointly developing new modules for the P.E. teacher training of the INJEPS which are to start from February 2020. Video

    … AND THERE IS MORE

    ITK Pathfinder Program Mexico 2019

In parallel to the Benin project, ITK realized a second Pathfinder Program in Mexico with more than 200 participants. Dr. Gerald Voß, renowned Track & Field expert in conditioning and speed, and his wife Ines Voß conducted the training of P.E. teachers and coaches. In the cities of Mexico City, Puebla and Veracruz, we cooperated with several local partners: the “Instituto Veracruzano del Deporte”, the “Direccion de Educacion Física de la Secretaria de Educacion Publica del Estado de Puebla” and “el Benemérito Instituto Normal del Estado”. The successful realization of this project was also possible thanks to the close

cooperation with the ITK México alumni association which was founded in 2017. Special thanks go to ITK graduates Olimpia Puerto Moctezuma, David Fernando Pérez Medellin and Pilar Guzman. In addition to the scheduled program, there were intensive talks regarding the planned ITK Ambassador Meeting in Mexico in autumn 2019.

    ITK Pathfinder Program Tanzania 2019

In spring 2019 ITK realized a third ITK Pathfinder program in Tanzania under the patronage of RB Leipzig football player Yussuf Poulsen. Project initiator and ITK alumnus, Tuntufye Mwambusi, invited instructors Andreas Pach and Martin Hammel of the Saxon Football Federation (SFV) to conduct 50 teaching units. In addition to the successful training of 25 coaches from different football academies, numerous students from Dar-es-Salaam had the opportunity to participate in the training. Since coaches, children and adolescents were enthusiastic about the project, the second edition as well as a continuous offer

and further development of this training program is being planned. To this end, the cooperation with the Ministry of Sport in Tanzania, the Faculty of Sport Sciences of the University of Dar-es-Salaam and the Tanzanian Football Association will be continued.
