Dear Brothers and Sisters, Members and Friends of the Hill United Presbyterian Church:
In July, we speak of our Independence Day as a United States of America dating from 1776. The Fourth of July represents our becoming a Republic and a Representative Democracy “of the people, by the people and for the people.” Part and parcel of becoming this particular nation has to do with the opportunity we have to live within a goodly number of freedoms including the Freedom of Worship. However, long before the United States of America was established, the Christian faith spoke of freedom: spiritual freedom, eternal freedom, as well as freedom to be an individual through God in Jesus Christ living in Jesus’ Way, in Jesus’ Truth and Jesus’ life. Paul wrote in Galatians 5:1 “For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” In this month of July let us thank God for the freedoms we have in this nation as well as for the eternal, spiritual and individual freedom we have in Jesus Christ.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you in spirit, Brothers and Sisters,
Pastor Clark Rev. Clark T. Sawyer

GHANA MISSION TASK FORCE REPORT
Here is more information from a couple of our students. They are very
appreciative of our contributions and they have high hopes. Thank you for
your caring and keep up the good work.
One of the recent scholarship beneficiaries sent the following information. She is affiliated with
the Bubiashie congregation and comments:
I am Xonu Emefa Peace and am 17 years old, chocolate in color, about 5 ft 6 ins tall, slim, round
face with black hair. I like playing football, netball, basketball and enjoy reading. I represented
my house at school in running and football in the inter house sports festival. I am in form 1 in
General Arts and a future Nurse.
The name of my school is Manya Krobo SHS in the eastern region of Ghana about 40 km east of
Accra. It has a population of about 2500 mixed students. There are 60 in my class and the
school is affiliated with Dorothy Strange SHS in Canada where they do exchange programs. The
school is one of the best in the region and is 45 years old.
My parents are Mr. Godwin Yao Xunu and my mother is Mad Leticia Azameti. I am the third of
three children, another girl and a boy. We live in Accra. My father works for the government
and my mother is a trader. The scholarship was used to pay my fees.
Another student writes:
I write to express my sincere gratitude to you for making the EP church scholarship possible. I
was very happy and appreciative to learn that I was selected as one of the recipients of your
scholarship.
I am currently in my second year in the University of Ghana reading information studies and
psychology. The financial assistance you have provided so far has helped a great deal in paying
my educational expenses since my parents have other siblings of mine to take care of in school.
The scholarship has gone a long way to help me concentrate more on my studies since the
financial aspect of my education has been taken care of.
I am a member of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Darkuman, and currently a co-teacher
at the children's ministry.
I belong to a family of five, made up of three children, me inclusive. Together with our parents
we live in Accra, Ghana.
I want to thank you once more for your generosity and support and promise that I will work hard
and eventually give back to the church and society at large.
DANYO IVY MAWUSI ABENA
Please keep the Bubiashie District churches, Bernard Daddy, chairperson of the Bubiashie
Scholarship Committee, as well as the students in your prayers.
