Term 4 Week 5 2016

Remembrance Day 2016

Remembrance Day in Australia is an

occasion to commemorate and

remember all Australians who have

died as a result of war. On the 11th

hour on the 11th day of the 11th

month, a minutes’ silence is

observed and dedicated to those

soldiers who died fighting to protect

the nation.

The students of JPS will be holding a

Remembrance Day assembly this

Friday at 10.30am, and invite all

families and community members

to join them.

Future Focused School

This week staff at JPS have been

involved in discussions and peer

observations concerning their

Professional Development Plans.

On Monday I met with my Director,

Jenene McGrath, and other

principals, to present details of

where we are up to in

implementing strategies to support

The Premier’s Priorities to raise the

percentage of all students in the

top 2 bands in NAPLAN in literacy

and numeracy by 8% by 2019.

I was able to highlight the journey

and successes of the

implementation of our literacy and

maths programs and show

evidence of the changes and

achievements that the programs

have brought to all of us, but

especially the students of Jugiong.

Thanks must go to Mrs Lenehan and

Ms Yu for their continued

dedication and professionalism.

We’re the Kids of the Future

At last Friday’s assembly, our School

Captains, Trixie and Isabelle,

welcomed four very excited little

people to our school as part of our

Kinder Orientation program. Not a

parent in sight! – the mini-kindies

arrived by bus or with big brothers

and sisters and settled confidently in

to a busy school day. I guess that’s

part of the pleasure of a small

school community – they have all

been visitors to our classrooms since

they were tiny, and ‘Big School’

holds no fear. We can’t wait for

next year to have them with us

every day.

Stop Press… As I write this newsletter, our Hot

Shots are competing in Sydney in

the finals of the Todd Woodbridge

Cup. We have just jheard that the

team came 7th in a field of 26

schools. Well done Hot Shots!

Not one but two Archibull finals! We

have been selected as one of

eleven finalists (five primary schools)

in the Infographic section and one

of seven finalists (only two primary

schools!) in the Blog section.

Jugiong School really does rock!!!

Have a great week.

child. Enrol your child at JPS for 2017 and experience the

small school difference.

What’s Cool at School Music Count Us In On Thursday 3rd November,

Jugiong was one of 2100 schools

around Australia that participated

in Music Count Us In. At 12:30pm

we sang ‘Let It Play’ simultaneously

with schools around Australia. The

students and teachers are always

excited to be a part of this great

event.

Assembly

Congratulations to the

students who won awards at

the assembly last Friday.

Also welcome to our 2017

Kinder Class.

Zooper Doopers— On sales each Wednesday and

Friday at lunchtime. $1 each

Emotional Literacy We were lucky enough to have Mrs Cindy-Lou

Mckie-Bailey (Assistant Principal Learning and Support)

come and work with staff and students on Tuesday.

Stage 3 participated in an engaging lesson about

Emotional Literacy. Students discussed and learnt about

all sorts of emotions and what these look like. They also

learnt about Zones of Regulation and brainstormed

activities that they could do to get them back to the

Green Zone. It would be great for the Year 5 and 6 par-

ents to discuss what activities your child is going to do to

get back to the Green Zone and make some suggestions

too.

Janelle Manwaring presenting Gary

and Jenny from the Jugiong Motel

with a cheque for $1000 for the

Jugiong Motor Inn Cancer Fund that

helps local people in need who are

suffering the effects of cancer.

$650 was also donated to Harden-

and Cootamundra branches of

CanAssist and $1000 to the Victor

Chang Cardiac Institute.

These were all funds raised from the

very successful Quilt show which was

organised by Janelle and David

Manwaring and their wonderful

band of helpers and is held every

Thank you David Janelle and team

for your wonderful weekend of

quilting and raising money for these
