Dear Brothers and Sisters,Members and Friends of
the Hill UnitedPresbyterian Church:
Paul, in Romans 12: 1-8, speaksabout living the consecrated life, a lifedevoted and dedicated on a dailybasis to A WHOLE NEW WAY OFLIFE!
How about that for the New Year of2015?
Paul wrote this to the RomanChristians: I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies ofGod, to present yourselves as a livingsacrifice, holy and acceptable to God,which is your spiritual worship. Do notbe conformed to this world but beTRANSFORMED by the renewal ofyour mind, that you may show what is
the will of God, what is good andacceptable and perfect.
The question comes to be are youand I living a life of conformity to thisworld or are you and I living livestransformed through the love, faithand hope in Jesus the Messiah andLord?
Jesus can bring an entirely newvision of transformative living throughthe Kingdom of God to and throughyou and me!
Yours in the New Life altogether inJesus Christ,Pastor Clark

The 2015 Hill Church Stewardship Campaign has ended and it is now time to use the results of the campaign along with other historicagiving information to develop the 2015 Hill Church budget. It is this budget that drives how Hill Church will provide opportunities forWorship, ministry and service for the coming year.
Here is some of the information the Session will use when developing the 2015 Hill Church budget:
The Stewardship and Mission Support Committee estimates that the church will have $145,000 in pledged offerings (adjusted tinclude uncollected pledges) to use towards the 2015 budget. The amount of pledged offerings adjusted for uncollected pledgefor 2014 was $181,000.
Based on historical information the committee estimates that the church will have $45,000 in unpledged offerings and $14,000miscellaneous revenue in 2015.
These amounts when added to the 2015 pledged offerings will give the church $204,000 to cover church expenses including stsalaries; building upkeep, utilities and maintenance; mission support; and supplies and materials needed to support ministries a
programs.
The budgeted costs for church operations in 2014 was $338,704. The Session authorized the use of approximately $67,000 fromthe churchs endowment funds to close the gap between pledged, unpledged and miscellaneous revenue and church expenses.
Increases in church operational costs have been minimal over the past five to seven years. During the same period the church hused money from its endowment funds to cover operational shortfalls, balance its budget and pay its bills.
If 2015 church expenses remain the same as those of 2014 the stewardship and mission support committee projects the churchwould need to use approximately $100,000 of its endowment funds to pay for general operational costs including staff, buildinministry supplies and mission support.
Continued use of the endowment funds to cover general operating expenses will cause some of these funds to be completelydepleted in the next two to four years. Only those endowment funds that have restrictions on how they can be used will remain
In order to deal with the many issues that must be addressed for 2015 and beyond the Session has agreed to form a special committee tocomplete the following tasks:
Review the current ministries and programs offered by each committee and prioritize them as to their importance to the churchThis review will include but not be limited to assessing how much staff time and volunteer time is needed to successfully run tministry or program and how many people benefit directly and indirectly from that ministry or program. Adjustments to the
current budget as well as future church budgets may be one of the results of this process.
Determine, what if, any critical ministries and programs the church should be offering but currently is not, and estimate whatresources including staff time, volunteer time and supply costs would be needed to run those ministries and programs.
Define and implement measures to increase membership growth within the congregation and encourage active participation inWorship, ministries and programs by church members and others interested in finding a church home.
Return to a more personalized approach to encourage financial support of the church through pledging. The stewardship emphatime will run for an extended period of time rather than four weeks each Fall, allowing Session members and other church leadto personally speak with members of the Hill Church family of faith about the importance their pledge to the continued operatiand growth of church ministries and programs.
Develop a policy for the utilization of the churchs endowment funds. This policy should determine how and when the endowmfunds may be used to cover select general operational costs; to serve as seed money for the start of new ministries or outreachactivities; and to cover unexpected, but necessary capital repairs and improvements or handle other unexpected emergencies.
By engaging in these and other activities the special committee will in essence be developing a strategic plan for Hill Church. The speccommittee will need input from every member of the Hill Church family of faith if this process is to be successful. The committee will reaching out frequently and in a variety of ways to ask for your ideas. Please take the time to respond as your suggestion may be the onethat improves a ministry or program. Details about this special committee will be made available during the next two months.
Hill Church is an active church made up of generous and hardworking members. The church is debt free and has successfully completeimportant repairs and upgrades to its building. It has been blessed by gifts to its endowment fund by members who cared about this chuand its work. As we embark on our second hundred years of Worship to God and service to His community it is time for us to get HillChurchs financial affairs in order and develop a plan that will carry our ministries and mission out into the community for years to com
